I'm using the 162 Hoss cells this year for the first time - LOVE THEM - some folks were complaining that it was hard to get the transplants out, but I found an easy method: wait till roots are emerging from bottom hole, let the soil get a little dry, tip tray on it's side and push cells out with a piece of rebar. I also cut one tray down to the size of my heat mat for early starts inside.
I lost two plots of corn last year. I did not try for a third. First plot was washed away. Second plot the crows came through and picked it out just as it germinated. I'm going to try to get a small plot going soon. I'm going to need to get a high arch next, I love my single wheel hoe. Thanks for sharing!!
I plant just enough corn for eating fresh. If you plant in rows than you need at least 4 rows for good pollination. I plant in hills. 4 or 5 stalks of corn in each hill 40 inches between hills. And it pollinates just fine.
At about 6" tall I give them about a cup per 10' of row. When they are about 30" tall or so, I'll do it again. This year, I'm using some Chilean Nitrate 15-0-2 from Hoss Tools. It's making the corn go crazy. Here's my link to Hoss Tools: bit.ly/homesteadadvisor
Sorry, but there is absolutely no reason to start corn in containers. Corn actually does best of it's planted directly in the garden because the roots don't like to be disturbed.

I just used a ball point pen to poke it out from underneath.
Works like a charm!
I planted peaches and cream a few years back and I loved it.
I think i planted them years ago too... very good as I remember.

The single hoe and double hoe is best for most applications.
The High Arch is great for this.

What zonevare you in. I'm in zone 9b (Orlando) and I cannot grow corn for nothing. Well I can grow it but the worms best me to it every time. Ugh.

Actually... This year I'm doing the water-soluble Chilean Nitrate about every 10 days for the corn.
