Great video. I would never sleep in that shelter!!! Cool to see someone who did! Here's a helpful nudge . . . don't draw red lines about slack-packing or anything else. I promise, your body will be beat down and some days you will still need to make miles. Slack packing (smart packing) is a great way to let your body heal while still pushing north. Whether you do it or not is up to you, but drawing red lines on things will only affect you mentally when you actually decide to break those lines and do it. Just go with the flow of the trail! Just like you have been. 🕓

I agree. As long as your feet are doing the miles that is all that matters.

Slept there in 2016 with 5 other hikers. Lovely to watch the sunset from the rocks, but COLD in the shelter. Enjoying watching your hike! Thanks for sharing.

Maybe others can weigh in but I'd prefer no music on the video. Mostly because it's louder than your voice so I'm having to toggle the volume down for the music and then back up when you speak. Your photos are also so awesome no music is required to keep my interest. Lastly, it might shorten your editing time are use the tie elsewhere.
Great tips today. Been hiking for years and near thought of the turn left off, turn left back on. Keep up the great work.

Great video. I’ve seen others film a sunset but you’re the first to keep filming until the stars shine. Awesome effect that I may use during my next section hike.

I'm really enjoying your videos. I just started watching yesterday and I am hooked! Me and my wife are considering doing the same thing and are researching and learning and positioning ourselves to be able to do this in a few years. Thank you for documenting this. Being in our 40's, we are enjoying watching someone who we feel are similar to us as far as experience and physical capabilities take this on. It makes us realize that it is possible!! Keep on guys, I feel like I know you personally already even though I'm only on day 6!

Have bee following your journey, and great to see your transition on the trail and how you are getting dialed in on what works for you. Love that as a couple you are encountering this adventure. A dream of mine for my wife and myself. Your video sped up and then slowing down with the music leading up to blood mountain created that movie anticipation for the outcome(fantastic!). Those were some really good pointers you shared. Thanks!!! Also, your steps don’t seem to “thud” as much when your walking. And your breathing sounds less labored with the lighter packs. Bartman Outdoors is quite a ways in front of you. His pack weight was as heavy as yours when he started. He lightened it a little, but not nearly as much as yours. He’s been complaining about knee problems for about a week now. I’m not sure he’ll make it. I’m definitely rooting for you guys. Because I’m in my 50’s and planning to hit the trail in 2025 for 55th birthday. Y’all are close to my age, so I’m “using” y’all as my inspiration to know that I’ll be able to make it as well. Hearing you say it was tricky getting water at Woods Hole made me think of the hack I use. I also carry the GSI mug that Renee carries. I keep the plastic cup handy in my pack, and when the water is slow flowing or shallow or otherwise hard to fill the water bag, I use the cup to scoop the water and dump in the bag. Easy peasy! 👍😀

Y'all are great. In regards to getting turned around: I had a paracord/compass bracelet that I put on either the left or right wrist depending on which way I turned off trail so I would know which way to turn when I went back to the trail. It was a good system for me that was instituted after I hiked almost 3 miles in the wrong direction one day. In my defense, after many side journeys to water or shelters or views, it is easy to forget whether it was left or right this time... I wasn't always the most observant of hikers.....clearly. 🙂 Love your attitudes!

Your arm has to get tired holding the camera. Is there some way to attach to you?

It actually doesn’t bother my arm at all. I tried attaching to my pack but it moves around too much when I move.

Your number of subscribers is increasing SO quickly. It may become overwhelming to reply to all of the comments. I don't think your viewers mind if you don't reply. You have enough to do in hiking. One great thing about vlogging will be that you will be offered lots of help by those who follow you. People will offer to buy you supper, slack pack you, shuttle you and some will invite you into their home for the night. (I am not saying you should have slack packed yet, but there may be a great day ahead for that.) Remain humble (as you have already shown that you are) and accept as much help as you need and feel comfortable taking. You have to take all of the steps from Springer Mountain to Mount Katahdin, but you won't have to do it on your own; the trail and trail Angels will provide. Enjoy!!

20lbs lighter! Wow, that’s a whole extra pack

They don't have a ranger sitting there to issue a ticket if you do stay at that shelter. Many hikers stay there with no cannister. Doesn't make it right.
    You are doing great!
Slow and steady wins the race
Congratulations on dropping all that pack weight

Wow, you stayed at Blood Mountain Shelter. I've never heard of anyone actually doing that. Cool! You have some b*lls.

I think the reason most people don’t stay is because that is a section of trail requiring a bear canister if staying overnight.

@@ValsLife1 Oh no, that place is rough.

It is super cold in Blood Mountain shelter due to the windows and high elevation. Kudos to you both! Nice job on your videography!

@@johnmys5am I’m sure that’s part of the reason. But most people don’t carry a bear canister on trail either.

Water is life, better to have more then you need, then not enough. Besides as you drink it, the weight goes down. I am a long distance bike rider, and water can be hard to come by where I live, on long rides.

Water is plentiful on the AT so far so we are fortunate to not have to carry as much.
