    A handy tip for removing that grey sealant is a pure brass bristle rotary brush for your drill. I couldn't find any in the local tool shops as just seems to be the brass coated steel rotary brushes so I found them on Ebay UK.
    Once the large bits of sealant have been scrapped off then the rotary brush makes quick work of the rest of the sealant and doesn't leave a speck of old sealant on the engine part.

    I had a 95 Subaru Impreza. The thing took a beating and still ran like new. I had it in the shop for an oil leak around the crank shaft seal, and when the tech put it back together he didn’t use lock tight or torque the nut and the nut came loose while running. This caused the crank shaft gear to shift, destroy the crank shaft key, and throw it out of timing. Back to the shop. He put another key in the shaft, lock tight, and torque, but the key whole was so bad, it threw it out of timing again. Now I was stuck with a dilemma. It would have been a rebuilt but we had an idea. A welder friend of mine came and welded the gear onto the shaft. Put it all back together, fire it up. Still ran like new. Love Subaru. Wish I still had the car.

    It honestly blows my mind how expensive even the junk yard motors are for you guys. One think I’ve liked about my Tahoe is a junk yard 5.3L motor is $700-1000. I’ve been looking at built crate 5.3s for $2,300-500 for factory 295hp to 400hp

    • @EmyrDerfel
      @EmyrDerfel 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      300 bhp is what Subaru owners get out of 2L. If you only expect 300 bhp from your 5.3L engine, that engine doesn't have to be tuned very hard and it'll have a low stress life. Low stress = low cost.

Sure we don't have the number of customers as North America but come on ! Personally I think it's changing as most will now buy overseas online rather than pay exorbitant prices. BTW USD to AUD = times 1.315. So $760 USD = $1,000 AUD.

    I've had five subies (currently own three) and not one ever had any serious mechanical problems. That includes 20 years ownership of a '94 WRX that got to 241,000 km. It was still running like silk when I sold it. But then, I never messed with the boost.

    just asking,why do you lube the top headbolt and not the thread instead?

    • @TreyCook21
      @TreyCook21 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      It ensures that all bolts get properly torqued by the threads and not the friction of the bolt dragging across the head.

    • @felixbelanger2659
      @felixbelanger2659 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's to remove as much "collar friction" as possible

    • @phillipstearns7258
      @phillipstearns7258 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      "wet torque" means put a couple drops of oil directly on the threads, not the bolt head. u can put oil on the head, yes, but that's not what "wet torque" means.

    • @bobroberts2371
      @bobroberts2371 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Torque is an inference of clamping force, friction will give a higher torque reading but lower clamping force. This is why "torque to yield" bolts were invented. Give them an initial torque, then tighten until they permanently stretch. Making them tighter past spec won't increase clamping force so the bolt needs to be designed for required clamp force. .
