Couldn't recommend the mf-4 more. We used it on bass for our most recent full length as Wicked Trip. Sadly, it got either stolen or lost at a gig. I just used the FU-2 for some drone metal tracking for a split yesterday. Jason, everything you make is amazing, man. I'll eventually snag another when things align. Every pedal I've got has been on my albums somewhere. Recently, I've been getting into the ibanez no.59 and Jen jumbo fuzz. The FW-70 is really calling my name! Hope you're doing well, man!
This is one of my favorite circuits you’ve built. I really appreciate the rundowns of your thought process and how you adjusted the classic circuit! They’re killer improvements! I have an original bubble font green Russian and a Black Russian muff. Because the components are a bit clunky, I don’t use them much. But! I do use an EQD Hoof boosted with an overdrive. (I have to have a muff fuzz on my board.) Killer vid, Jason! Cheers!
The MF-4 is hands down the best fuzz I've ever played and will forever be on my pedalboard 🦍 Sounds MASSIVE on guitar, DESTROYS on bass, and melts every face in the room 🤘
Sounds great! Right now on my Main board I have a Tubescreamer mini going into a Rat and a Big Muff (both of these are Alchemy Audio modded). I use the Tubescreamer to help with the lack of mids on the Muff. I play in Standard tuning so these work fine for me and give me the options I want. I do like Doom Metal and Doomgaze but I've come to accept that I like it because it is a genre that I don't play, therefore it's something different that my ears can appreciate the same way I love Cool Jazz. Not diving too deep I appreciate Black Sabbath, Red Fang, Yob, Sleep, and Kyuss for the heavy stuff. My playing is much more Punk, Country, Psychobilly, Indie, and Post Punk influenced.
@@FuzzlordEffects Jason, I love your stuff and I have one more board (I currently have three) in me. Probably a more Doomgaze focused board. It may be a while but I am sure I will pick up a pedal or two from you in the near future.😉👍✨ Keep doing what you are doing!
When I was in my 20s I had two pedals, a black Russian Muff and a TS9dx turbo tubescreamer. I figured out that you could boost the Muff with the TS on my own. Nobody told me and I didn't read about it on a forum or anything like that. I started playing in an open G tuning with the low string tuned another full step down (CGDGBG low to high). Prior to that I always played standard tuning. It made me play differently to suit its sound. It's like EHX turned a Yakov Smirnoff joke into a pedal.
Still my Favorite fuzz after I dont know how long. I really like the mid control. I always keep the mid around 9oclock tone a little higher. Level and gain to taste. Almost never go above noon with level and gain though unless I want to take peoples heads off. Jason this is your greatest pedal In my opinion.
I bought an MF-4 five or six months ago. It is easily the best fuzz pedal I've ever used and owned. A few others that I own- Boss Hyper Fuzz FZ-2, FuzzLord FU-2, Bass Big Muff Pi, DS-1 Distortion, Rat, FuzzLord Drone Master, EyeMaster, and an IdiotBox Dungeon Master. MF-4 is the best of them all. My opinion.
I got an older verison MF-4, with the blue vampire chassis art. Thing smokes! It stacks really well with ODs and other fuzzes. By far the best big muff voiced fuzz pedal that i've played. The mid control is essential, since as you stated in the video, its easy to get lost in the mix.
Been eyeing this pedal for a while. I love the circuit concept and look of the pedal. The only thing holding me back is, as a bass player, my druthers would include a low-passed clean blend. Also looking to keep my pedals to top-jack 125B form factor for space savings.
I like a lot of bands who uses Muffs but I think my all time favorite band who uses one is J Mascis from Dinosaur Jr and Wata from Boris. both of their signature muffs are also great. Love my MF-4 too. Would love to know the inspiration to the screen print. That goes for all your pedal art.
Haha - I get it; the artwork says it all: Big Muff, but more in your face ;) very good, very good... In other business, you OK dude? You don't sound too flash... Hope it's nothing serious! Pedal sounds killer :) I was getting Lightning Bolt or Sleep vibes.
@FuzzlordEffects I have always loved how others sound using muff pedals. You sound great!Whenever I have tried them I don’t like them. Is there a specific way they need to be used? ( into clean amp?, slightly crunchy? Eq? etc…) I’ve tried both ways into my amps, and just end up frustrated. Do you have any tips or suggestions?
LEGIT. QUESTION HERE ... on the standard modern big box NYC Big Muff, if you do the "tone bypass" mod, does that remove the mid scoop nature? OR is the mid scoop still there but only masked???? 🤔
If you dont have one of these on your board, you are doing it wrong. Trust me. This is THE sickest pedal Ive ever owned. Stick a Bareknuckle Warpig pick-up in front of it. I dare you.
Sadly, I don't have either of those pedals. My FUZZ collection currently consists of - MXR Super Badass Variac Fuzz - 320Design Strung Fuzz (which is kind of a digital fuzz, I think) - Effects Bakery Sandwich Fuzz - Effects Bakery Ginger Fuzz So, I'm curious how the Big Muff and the MF-4 compare to my current arsenal and is there a legit difference in the various sizes of the Big Muff? As for a favorite artist who uses a Big Muff? I had to check because, I've never actually looked and Aoi, from "The Gazette" uses one in his upper rack chain.
I own both the Super Badass Variac Fuzz and the NYC Big Muff. They are very different. The super badass for me is best for an always on warmth at a low gain, I dont like the sound when put in full fuzz mode, but I really love this pedal! The NYC is intense, it's an epic all of sound and has almost infinite sustain for lead play. A common complaint is the mid scoop it has, but this can be easily balanced out using an EQ pedal or simply turn the mid dial on your amp.
Are these pedals really sound dependent on the amp? Had this pedal a few days and I’m just not getting these kinds of tones out of it at all. Most of the time they are just so bass heavy. Anyone want to share some settings?
I really like your channel, your pedals and their sound. But under risk of being booed off stage, the MF-4 objectifies women too much. Any chance of changing its artwork?
It's a cool looking artwork that compliments the sound really well, i.e. one look at it and you kinda know what type of sound to expect. And the artwork is nothing too explicit. Doest it really bother you so much that you have to ask to change it?

@RitualFlip I'm not playing with these guys anymore, and it wasn't my original band. Also how many bands have been comfortable Ripping off sabbath?
@@RitualFlip they are good guys, I just had to take care of some things. Their new stuff isn't so wizard last I heard it before I left.
I actually acquired a Deluxe Big Muff a few years ago just for the mids knob! Definitely gonna acquire the MF-4 soon!🤘👽🎸
Cheers!!

Thanks!!! It’s on Spotify like most of the demo songs under Fuzzlord 🙌
Best big muff pedal ever made

I always thought I’d use it for metal……but I literally use the MF-4 when I’m doing David Gilmour solo things and it’s just so right.
That is so badass!

I had the exact same problem with low tunings with that exact same muff you showed. It was so hard to record in a mix.
Awesome tones🤘🤘🤘
It's a great sounding powerhouse of a big muff type pedal. Great demo of it. Good clarity too which makes it stand out.
Thanks Carl!
Who did I just see on the cover of the Weekly? Grabbed a few extra copies! Grats! #localcelebrity #fuzz
That’s awesome you saw that!! Was really awesome getting interviewed by them and getting noticed here in my home town :)

Both such great bands! Might have to do a video about all of the artworks someday 🙌
It's already sold out! Any idea when it'll be back in stock?
Hell Yeah! 🤘👽🎸🎛️-🎛️-🎛️-🔊🎶🎵🎶

It sounds awesome….I just got the Keeley Angry Orange fuzz and it combines DS1 and BM tone and gain controls interchangeably….
Alabama Thunderpussy is my favorite BM band.

I usually like running them into fairly clean amps, and roll off the bass a little under noon, treble a little above noon and dial in the presence
I have the deluxe big muff and sometime uses a KLon stile pedal after the big muff it rock's
