Texas BBQ?? We had to stop what we’re doing to watch this one! The brisket, peach pork belly, and the banana pudding looked amazing!! We’re putting Interstellar BBQ on our list of places to visit. Great job, Dan!
Dan...best vid you have done, IMO. And, I have been following you for quite some time! Why? 1) out of your usual element or backyard (plus Vegas) 2) you previewed the #1 BBQ in Austin 3) your vid toured and filmed exceptionally well, from outside to kitchen to cooker 4) your content, BBQ meats, was and will be the #1 vids for carnivores 5) you had no distractions; walking, talking, additional people, etc. Well done Dan, A+, a smash vid! #1 vid of #1 Texas BBQ! I live in Pasadena! (sadly it's the other one, here in California!?*)
Dan my wife and I love your channel! We are Austin locals and so happy you came to visit. I should be ashamed for not trying Interstellar BBQ yet lol but I will definitely hit it up. Great video keep up the great work!
Hell yeah man! This was my first stop when I was in Austin a few weeks back. Warren was the nicest guy, showed me around and chatted for almost an hour.
Nice!! Born and raised in the Austin area, and really happy to see you make it out this way. So much amazing food in this area. If you ever come back my BBQ recommendation is Slab BBQ and Beer. They have a crazy list of sandwiches, great vibe and everything I’ve tried from there is straight 🔥🔥
Slab's not bad, but as a 40 year resident, my vote is for upscale, the County Line, either location. Regular daily BBQ, Donn's, which sits behind the Oak Hill location of Slab's.
Whoa! Interstellar BBQ Is out of this world! Pun intended. That peach glaze.. and I love peach. That banana pudding.. oh my goodness! I love deserts. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Dan great interview...you did an excellent job interviewing John Bates!! How wonderful to make awesome food and you love doing it so much, it never feels like work. Great fun vid to watch.
okay I’m definitely stopping by here! the owner is really sweet and passionate. the scalloped potatoes and peach glazed pork belly looks devine! thank you! was going to go to franklins but I’m really not feeling the 2-3 hour wait and dont want to order ahead bc wtf am i going to do with 5lbs of bbq lmao
If you have to wait in line for BBQ in Austin you are out of your fucking mind there are alot of BBQ places around Austin to eat and the best thing is you don't have to go broke paying for this so called BBQ, just saying!
I spent some time for a job in Austin. Loved the city. The BBQ was nuts but I was there 1999-2000 and it looks to be a whole new game. The places I knew were; County Line, Stubbs, Salt Lick and a place I don’t remember the name but was great too. I heard about Franklins and Blacks. I saw some comments on Franklins, maybe riding on previous notices but still has to be good. You are a lucky man, I love BBQ but am in L.A. too and not much to choose from. Some decent ones as you can’t just drive to TX when you crave BBQ. Great video Dan and such a nice owner to give you the Royal treatment. Enjoy!
@@DanVsWorld coool, for a too short period of time, Salt Lick had a restaurant at Red Rock Station Casino in Vegas. I ate there and it was great but unappreciated and closed.
you can't honestly say it's "so much better" thank franklin's lol. that's just silly. franklin's is renowned for a reason, but i do think interstellar is on the same level.
Dan... you caught right before I was about to eat lunch again! OMG this food looks sooooo good. Officially jealous. Already looking forward to the rest of your Texas trip. Thanks so much for posting! 'Til next time.
man i miss that place. I used to able to pop in for lunch a few years ago or grab a bunch for a Saturday. Not anymore since #1 but good for John and all those peeps. And the scalloped potatoes are the fn' best.
Shocked! I drive by here 2 times a week easily! I would have thought Franklin's or some of the others would have bene numero uno. I will have to try now!
I grew up in Texas eating Bar B Q from the Roadside all my life. It used to be an occasional treat, and a cheap alternative, to cooking dinner. Then it went "Pop Culture" in the 90's, And has been way too expensive since. The only Bar-B-Q I eat now is my own. And I can honestly say after Bar B Q'ing for 45 years, It is some of the Best Bar B Q I have ever eaten in Texas.
Back in the old days before you born southern food was mostly beans, grains stuff, vegetables and salted pork rations. All this fried foods and bbq was special occasion and not that common. Southerners were skinnier back then.
Get the laxitive and bromelein out for that colon cloggin' barbeque we can't get enough of. I'm seriously addicted to beef brisket ...smoked, rested, served!
Nice video. That bbq looked delicious. I would definitely want the ribs and pork belly, plus scalloped potatoes. No corn on the cob lol. Thanks for thisreview.
I found this hidden gem about a month ago despite living in the area for 5 years. It was freaking amazing! I’ve been a big fan of Terry Blacks since moving to Austin but I must say, Interstellar takes the edge. BUUUUT… the potato salad , coke slaw was too vinegary and banana pudding was too sweet and not enough banana.Turkey was slightly too salty. Despite all of this, I must agree that this is the best BBQ in Austin. Would highly recommend arriving 1.5 hours early before opening. There will be a line and food will run out. My family and I got the last of a few Items! Soooooo lucky!
Wow I guess business I booming here! Yup its pretty good bbq, I been to terry blacks as well, I thought the meats at terry blacks was a bit salty but still good
Great review Dan 👍 I found you from Bill and Lias I been following them for a while now . That bbq looks just amazing especially those peach pork belly ends
I liked their sides. Bbq was good. I don’t know about #1. I’ve had ALL the bbq in Austin. My fav isn’t in Austin. It’s a 1/2 an hr. North in Taylor. Lou mulluers. Best brisket in the biz. By far.
I live in Austin and you can’t keep up with all the BBQ places popping up. I like the Green Mesquite BBQ, Classic place call The Salt Lick and many many place around Austin. Kreisler or Smithy’s in Lockhart, City Market in Lulling, Southside and Meyer’s in Elgin. Louie Mueller Barbecue in Taylor. This is the Smoke Brisket universe in the whole Galaxy. Jesus wanted BBQ he would come right here.
I've lived in Austin my whole life and I've never heard of Interstellar BBQ. Black's BBQ. Stubs BBQ. Terry Black's. Southside. Franklin BBQ Where Obama visited. Stile Switch which has great ribs. Iron works which used to be a black smithing shop long ago. The Salt Lick. Never ever heard of InterstellarBBQ. Brisket rules. I make my Brisket sandwich with BBQ sauce slaw and pickles.
As far as the line goes, it’s not that bad compared to other top places, it just moves stupidly slow. You do not have to show up more than an hour before opening time. As you saw, that guy was the only one there. Going 20-30 minutes before opening is safe.
The best BBQ in Austin is Franklins. I’ve never been because you have to get there at 6 AM and there’s a line at that time. I’ve never been here either and I might try both

What was the tastiest bbq item on the plate!?!
That peach pork belly looked crazy
Hard to stray from an outstanding rib! Do you recall what they sprayed on the rib? I assume it was cider vinegar, no?
I like the brisket dipped in a wet sauce. What kind of sauces do they have?
Pork belly
The item that caught my eye was the Jalapeno and Cheese Sausage.
Safe Journey!
CHOLULA!!!

How much was everything?
Besides the food. How was your time in Austin, TX? I’ve been wanting to visit for leisure but want to know if there’s actually stuff to do!
Stay tuned I’m gonna drop a bunch of different Austin blogs!
