    When my ex cheated on me, I tried to make if work. I was young and had two little boys. I told him he needed to make a decision - me or her. I wasn’t going to make it for him. But, I added, if you sleep with her again, I’ll assume you have made your decision. He did. It was hard being a young single mom but I managed. Almost three years later I met my husband and we have been married more than 36 years. (There were other major issues in my first marriage - the biggest being he was an alcoholic and drug abuser).

I needed some healthy selfishness. VIDEO PLEASE. (i.e. I was not looking for money but a job would be nice. I was not looking for a teetotaler but alcoholic was not what I wanted) MY boundaries must be too flexible. I really did not want to use someone. Overcompensated. Been there.
      It isn't easy to walk away, especially with small kids, but hindsight is 20/20 and looking back I have zero regret, and am so relieved that I was smart enough to move on.
      I wasn't a "good picker" in my 20s or 30s either, and as I look at what my exes are up to today, I dodged major bullets by getting out of those relationships. All of my exes have went on to multiple marriages with multiple children with different people, records of domestic violence/protection orders, in and out of court over child support, and alcohol or drug issues. They got worse after me, not better, yet when I was in those relationships, they all gaslighted me and blamed me for the problems in the relationship. I have had no contact with any of them so I am not the source of their current problems. Clearly this is just who they are as people.
      I am happy with my current life and it is free of deceit, cheating, violence and drama.
      I wouldn't want to live the lives my exes live. It would make me insane.

      Think it's more nuanced than this. The data show that the only variable that consistently predicts cheating is whether or not the cheater is within close proximity to people he or she finds attractive. If the cheater is proactively seeking out relationships, then I would say your assertion probably fits. But if the person works in an environment where they are constantly exposed to attractive people, then there's a good chance external factors are the driving force behind the cheating. Even more so if alcohol use is a pervasive part of the environment.

    • @mistym0rning
      @mistym0rning 3 ปีที่แล้ว +58

      @@boston1977boston - yeah but a lot of people can control themselves even when they are surrounded by people they find very attractive. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I think it does have to do with “opportunity”, sure, but it’s also a question of how fulfilled a person feels and how much repeated external validation they need for their ego. In other words, someone who has repeated affairs is someone who constantly needs to feel validated by having a new person’s attention & affection. It’s quite sad, really.

Intelligent arguments like one might hear in a Ted Talk, adverse life events that shake your faith, but ask yourself, how many preachers create atheists by being one more hypocrite shoving a doctrine down someone's throat? It's always judgemental, never loving. It elicits responses of fear and shame. Not love. Some are kind but most, I think harm God's reputation more than they help. I wish people like Derrick would stop trying to be monogamous. If he’s been cheating 10+ years then he just needs to be poly or single. Monogamy isn’t a chore for people who are actually monogamous.

    • @ROTTERDXM
      @ROTTERDXM 3 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      THIS. Unfortunately there are so many factors that come into this:
      Some people don't want to come out as poly due to social pressures (religious/other environment that rejects this). I see this a lot.
      Then there's the MUCH smaller dating pool, the possibility of rejection by a (potential/existing) partner who does not want to be with an openly poly person (also ties into the social stigma). I see this a lot.
      Third, perhaps he wants the freedom and excitement but doesn't want his partner to have the same. I see this a lot as well.

She harped so hard on how to be the perfect wife and how divorce is only acceptable in situations of serious abuse, and then you find out she was divorced and had never had a healthy relationship. She also told people not to adopt children, that if your man leaves you it's because you just didnt try hard enough or weren't pretty enough, etc. Not exactly the same but definitely similar in the hypocrisy and preaching unrealistic standards aspects. I think Derrick's advice was pretty good, if only he would follow it, and also allow women to forgive their partners.

      More attention-seeking behaviour fr a narcissist. He appears thorougly disingenuous to even a cursory exam of facts. I would assume most of his behaviours and mannerisms are borrowed merely for effect. Some might describe this as "putting on airs."

    This is the classiest dismantling of someone I've seen in a long time. Very well done Dr Grande

    Dr.Grande, you are the GOAT.
    This Jaxn guy even had me fooled. I was recommending him to people and watching all of his videos. I'm curious to know if you would consider him a narcissist. Having followed him for years, now, I'd say he is (not diagnosing, only speculating...)😆

      He is a narcist, men have been telling this for long time, but he 'was special' to many women.
