  • It is with great sadness that we had to say goodbye to Mistletoe. We did everything we could for Mistletoe, but he still struggled to get up and could not get up on his left side. We took Mistletoe to a specialist equine hospital to have him further evaluated. Their findings were so sad...
We would like to thank everyone who followed his journey with us, and for your support.
Donations may be made in his memory to help rescue, shelter and protect more horses like Mistletoe.

Wobblers is such a sad birth defect to be born with. People don't understand how bad Wobblers is in large breeds of dogs and horses. I'm sure his previous owners didn't have a veterinarian diagnosis, but obviously knew he had a problem. That's why they opted to get their money from his sale at auction. Thank you for trying so hard to help him. Even with all the money in the world, he would never be cured and would suffer as he grew and possibly become paralyzed. At least he got great care and good food at your place💙

G’day Horse Plus Humane Society Teams & Co ;-) So sorry Mistletoe couldn’t be helped to recovery of all his viral & neurological functions RIP.
But I must let others know that I had a thoroughbred race horse gifted to me with “Wobbles” lean gangly uncoordinated grew to quick, His spine didn’t grow allowing free movement of the spinal cord. He was 16:2 hands as a 2 yo & was fed a diet high in grains calcium and not enough magnesium..& balanced minerals.
I had the time effort research space & funds to run my own experiments.
I used Magnesium sulphate or Epsom salts, (good quality)in his feed 1 desert spoon daily & a big block 50 kg of natural minerals with all trace elements that was from a natural mineral deposit sold at Wesfarmers( white clay dirt) that all the horses could help themselves to.
The so called wobbler never did again and grew even more to be a well balanced riding horse!
If horses lick chew on bones, ant nests, termite mounds, and fences they are potentially mineral deficient and are seeking the minerals to balance out their bodies.
Also if horses are left to graze over a freshly spread super phosphate paddock that too will endure a mineral deficiency causing neurological issues, that can be overcome by balanced minerals.
I Hope this just may help someone else add information to their care basket of knowledge!
With many source blessings with truth clarity love light laughter happiness joy fun play creativity adventures abundance wisdom and may peace be with you all! Victoria Australia 🇦🇺 xoxo

@@susandivirgilio4551 G’day;-) Thanks 🙏 and if helps 1 more being regain more function and a better quality of life so be it!
I personally use Epsom Salt = Magnesium Sulphate, good quality from the health food store, apx 1 teaspoon daily combined with sea salt & Himalayan salt in my food that helped repair a prolapsed disc within 6 weeks. Now it’s just part of my daily regimen.

So very sad for this little horse. Wonder if the owner knew about his Wobbler's disease before dumping him at the auction for him to be slaughtered. I'm glad the kill buyers didn't get him. Rest in Peace little Mistletoe. Run through the fields of heaven without all the pain you have endured.

What’s make me sad, is the fact, that his old owners have made money on him, sending him to the auction, instead of giving him the help he needed. These people are disgusting. It makes my heart ache. Thank god you are there to relieve them of the pain they have had to endure.

I have a feeling that whoever dumped him at the auction knew (or had a suspicion) he had Wobblers. But they decided to make a quick buck knowing full well someone would take the cute, sickly draft colt. Whether it was a trader or kill buyer aiming to fatten him up to make even more money off of him or a rescue or private buyer thinking they could nurse him back to health. Absolutely sickening. No horse deserves that. Forever grateful for the work you guys do!

You all tried so hard your absolutely right!! Unfortunately his prognosis wasn’t helpful in his situation. Being such a large breed and only going to get much larger I can’t even begin to imagine the pain and suffering he would of endured. Horse Plus you guys need to give yourselves credit here. You rescued him from the slaughter pipeline, you provided medical care, food and above all you LOVED him as did a lot of your fans. The last act of kindness in his case was exactly that.
It was kind to think of Mistletoe and not ourselves in this situation as hard as that can be. Thank-you for doing what you all do rescuing and providing care to these beautiful animals. Sometimes providing care for the animals best interest isn’t always what we want, however you stepped up when his previous owners didn’t and just wanted to get a quick buck $ by dumping him at an auction instead of doing right by Mistletoe.
Rest In Peace big guy 🌈 🐴

The first time I heard of wobblers was with a bull mastiff dog I met.
When I researched the disease it said it was a condition found in horses too.
Seeing how it’s a genetic abnormality found in larger breeds it made sense that it was manifesting a young draft horse as he grew.
I can understand what a dire diagnosis to hear but HP put Mistletoe’s needs first.
They are strong enough to make the hard decisions. So sad but thank you.

So from what I understood, his neck bones grew into the nerve tract, so he would be in constant pain from that, and also it affected the messages from his brain to his feet.
And as he grows bigger, the more pain and trouble he would be in...
I would say it was the right thing to let him go, or else, he would be living in constant pain and not be able to walk. Let him go now, when he still felt fairly comfortable.
