Hope you’re enjoying the recent videos peeps! 🍻 Gaz’s Nostalgic Football ManCave will be on the channel tomorrow lunchtime! In the afternoon I’ll be checking out another FORMER football stadium 😉 WHERE AM I GOING⁉️
My understanding of the nickname canaries came from when the Flemish weavers came to Norwich with their canaries in the 16th century. Every time I visit Norwich I read it on the wall in the Ribs of Beer🍻
I went up a few times as a kid to see my cousin, Mark Bowen, playing. Great club in the 90s and still a nice place to come today as a Swansea fan. Great video. 👍
my coousin follows norwich smashing club hope to see them back in the premiership soon was trying to see what badges was on the board my big passion colleceting football badges all the best for the rest of the season anoter intresting blog keep up the great work steve
Nice video. My first game at Carrow Road was the Canaries vs Man Utd in Jan 1994. I was just back over in Norfolk from living in South Africa. Giggsy tore us apart, although Ruel Fox did his best (I was super impressed with his skill and work rate, even for a Ipswich lad, and he was soon a favourite) Got a strong memory walking down Queens Road, down through Carrow Hill, to the stadium, with everyone making their way there,
Only thing that let the video down was being in the south stand. Lower Barclay is the place to be for atmosphere. On the ball city still gives me goosebumps 39 years later.
please can you visit the dell and the antelope ground, both old saints grounds, and maybe show off the beautiful st Mary's too? I've not seen anyone do a video like this about southampton so that would be class, great video!
Coincidentally mate I’m off to the Dell tomorrow 😉👍🏾 I’m touring St Mary’s next month on a proper stadium tour (along with your close friend at Fratton Park…) is the Antelope ground near the Dell?
@@RysFootyParadise The Antelope Ground is the only one really worth a visit. It’s in Bellevue. Go north up Hill Lane past the dell onto archers road on the other side of the site of the ground, continue down archers road, keep going past the crossing with carlton rd to the right and banister road to the left, until you reach the end of archers road and turn right onto The Avenue. Continue onto Dorset Street then onto St. Mary’s road. At the big DHL express turn onto brintons terrace and behind the DHL/ safestore self storage building there should be a road to your left. Down there is where the antelope ground was. No worries!
Thanks, a great way to be like there when I’m not (emigrated). I see The south stand still has no atmosphere , I see all seater stadiums are still a shadow of the cauldrons of noise they replaced, as to ticket prices I used to pay 35p for an under 16 standing ticket. But everyone is flush with cash, that stadium has held 40k , and could do again with all standing Barclay and a new tier over the dull arsed main stand.
Was there yesterday. Disappointing day for us. Shame I missed the badge seller as I’m an anorak collector. The mention of the name Steve Bruce brings me out into a cold sweat. Come on you Baggies.
Haha Brucie 😁 the Baggies started the game strong didn’t they - we were saying how well West Brom were passing it about - but that first goal changed the game didn’t it
The club's original ground is now the Town House school playing field, a mile or two from the city centre. The part of Norwich you visited is especially interesting in addition to the football connections.
Love it Ry also seen my beloved Stockport County get batterd here too Andy dibble sent off last game off 2001/02 season only good thing was Norwich pipped Burnley to the playoffs 😅
Just to clarify the street you were on called The Nest isn't actually where the ground was. It was located one street over on what is now called Bertram Way after Bertram Books which was located there before the housing was built.
There's a statue in the area which marks where the ground was located. The photo's of the Nest that I've seen gives the impression of a health and safety officer's worst nightmare.
Only problem with Norwich City is that the ground is not big enough. Sells out for every match no matter what league they play in. Am a Spurs fan but now living in Norfolk would love to go to Norwich more.
How about you get someone who actually knows what they're talking about instead of some random "fan" who clearly has never done a scrap of research whatsoever. "This is where Norwich used to play up until.......er....1930 something..." Yeah, great. Really informative. Clearly a details man. Anyone would think he's never heard of Google.
@@RysFootyParadise He might have a ManCave and be a MEGA fan (!), but if he was visiting The Nest and being interviewed then his research could have been better! 0.50 NCFC left The Nest in summer of 1935 1.30 The pitch was not that close to Rosary Road, there being a row of houses between the road & the pitch (you used a photo that clearly showed this) 1.55 The capacity of The Nest was nearly double his estimate; the ground record being over 25,000 3.03 Norwich had yellow shirts & green collars in 1907, long before The Nest was even considered as a ground. Likewise, the first use of 'Canaries' as a nickname was recorded in April 1905, and formalised in programmes of 1905/06. 3.28 The 'Cityzens/Citizens' nickname is likely a play on the 'City' suffix, but as Man C were founded some eight years earlier than Norwich it is doubtful that NCFC were the original holders of that nickname.

your cousin is an NCFC legend! Scored the first goal against Bayern!
Second goal 😉
The badge seller by the bridge is a legend. As I understand it he comes up from Essex for most games and has been attending since I was a youngster.
He strangely said he’s a Wolves fan also?

True - we did walk up Bertram Way and I got some clips of the statue and that piece on the wall 😊 just was easier to start filming by that sign
But did you get a scarf though? I was there. It was a great win. Bring on Leeds and Liverpool!
