I had rebuilt an asp 46 it has a bend shaft, and i did install a crank shaft from bad inc engine ( inc= a production line of rc engines that ware failure from a to z sold at hobby king) ihad to faile and reshaping the shaft at the spinner mount , i hope the Wight of counter to piston and con rod are correct..
Perfect. Just what i needed. Thanx. Is there a different side of the crankrod? Can you tell if you reversed it on the bottomcrank? I see a slight difference with an edge thats higher than the other side. You could also tell by the clean side that was rubbing on the crankcase.
Helli every one Needs Help please.. Can anyone tell me which side of piston connecting rod goes to engine side it is a brass like on side is bravel and other side is inside.. Thanks
Hello, after many flights with my FX 46, today I think I need to change the piston and cylinder, I have looked for its original replacement but it is already discontinued, you know what the alternative part is and where I can get it. thanks, excellent demonstration video.
David McIntire the asp piston that you use for the fx 46 is discontinued in hobby king, yesterday I was looking and found in other pages, and proceeded to buy a game. thanks for the info.
What issue was identified that lead to the placement of the piston and sleeve. I have just back into the hoppy after 15 years, have had some trouble with my fx46. In particular idle and throttle up leads to the engine stopping.
I still have the piston and sleeve from that engine too. I thought for sure I made a disassembly video showing it but I cannot find it on the channel. maybe on one of the HDD I have filled with videos. I could send you some pictures. It was the worst peeling I have ever seen.
That would be great Dave. After watching your assembly vidoe I feel a lot more confident doing a replacement now. I am keen to solve my current engine issue so I can get back into flying. I am hoping mine may just be a simple idle mixture setting. I watched your other video of the running in after replacement. Very helpful as well
I am not sure what the i means in that engine description but I would think that the standard ASP S46 piston and sleeve shown in my video would work. No guarantees. The used glow engine market is so flooded with great engines for great prices why not just get a different non OS engine? Personally I will never own another OS 2 stroke made after 1995 unless it is given to me.
David McIntire I did end up getting a replacement engine, another OS. As this is just a trainer, I really cannot see going all out on a 4 stroke or something I dont think is needed. I do have an Enya, but I think it is a 61, over sized for what I need.
Did you use the asp46 or osfx connecting rod? After I installed the assembly the connecting rod using the fx connecting rod broke and the piston caught.
Hi David. Finally the repair succeeded? I have the same issue with my os 46 fx and peeling sleeve... Is there any chance to remember what the ASP part number code was? Maybe the S46203?
Hey David can you possibly show a direct home page to directly contact uou Since asp seems to be going away i need to find parts for an asp 91 red head.
Is this your Job? Dedicated one or Job on the side? It looks fun, either way. What would you charge, if I had a leaky head (a debit on a cooling head, just where the gasket seats). How would you fix something like that, without replacing the entire head?
Well I am sure that the carb from an ASP 46S would fit, but it does not have the same threaded screw holes in the base to attach it with. www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__13114__ASP_S46M_Carb_Assy.html
Thanks for your answer. I'll order a new connecting rod. The problem was that the new piston is too tight on the shirt in the top dead center and forced the connecting rod on the way down. Sorry for my bad English. I'm from Brazil.
David McIntire well hobbyking finally got more parts in and my new sleeve and piston finally showed today, to bad this setup won't work on the 46 AX, I've got 2 with liners starting to peel. Thanks for all your uploads
Greetings from Colombia, I have a 46SF and need piston and cylinder, I would like to put an ASP kit, which would serve as a reference S46M or S46A, thank you very much I remain attentive.
If you can find an old 46SF heli engine (they are sold cheap usually) you can use the ringed piston / steel liner of that engine. Will outlast any ABC/ABN/AAC piston/liner.

Great video sir!! The most important information was that the top of the sleeve is titter than the rest of it. Is that correct? Tks
Where can I get the piston and sleeve for the ASP?
Helli every one
Needs Help please..

Can i install this piston cylinder is OS 46AX too ?

The only places I am aware of that sell ASP parts is Just Engines and Hobby King. Good luck.
what would be the specific asp model that I should look for in hobbyking
Irrelevant really. I do not see that Hobby King is even carrying the piston sleeve set for the S46 engine anymore.

@@dmrcflyr2 Aliexpress has them now.
Can we instal asp 46 piston liner in OS 46 AX also?
What issue was identified that lead to the placement of the piston and sleeve. I have just back into the hoppy after 15 years, have had some trouble with my fx46. In particular idle and throttle up leads to the engine stopping.
The cylinder sleeve plating was peeling. A pretty common occurrence on OS engines from about the year 2000 on.
Thanks Dave

Use this link to get my email address, and then I can send you some pictures of the sleeve.

I have the OS Max FXi .46 that needs a new piston and sleeve set but cannot find any liating for an i. Any idea what I should do?

What kind of oil/grease does he lube it with?
Elbow Grease.
Did you use the asp46 or osfx connecting rod? After I installed the assembly the connecting rod using the fx connecting rod broke and the piston caught.
I used the original OS connecting rod. The ASP piston and sleeve does not come with a connecting rod.
Hi David. Finally the repair succeeded? I have the same issue with my os 46 fx and peeling sleeve... Is there any chance to remember what the ASP part number code was? Maybe the S46203?
Yes, that is the correct part number. hobbyking.com/en_us/asp-s46a-mk11-h-cylinder-piston-set.html
Thank you David. Have a happy new year!

I cannot help you find parts for the discontinued ASP 91. Try RC forums or eBay.

I have 3 OS 46FX engines and ASP cylinder/pistons to swap...
i have a so 46 sf do you know of a carb that willl work and the needle valve that will work thank tim

That is odd as mine fit just fine. Are you sure you ordered the right ASP piston and sleeve?
Hi was wondering if you could tell me where you found the ASP parts? I can't find them anywhere.
I bought mine from Hobby King
David McIntire well hobbyking finally got more parts in and my new sleeve and piston finally showed today, to bad this setup won't work on the 46 AX, I've got 2 with liners starting to peel.

The correct one is the S46A. I bought the S46M for myself and it is wrong. Thank you for your support.
If you can find an old 46SF heli engine (they are sold cheap usually) you can use the ringed piston / steel liner of that engine. Will outlast any ABC/ABN/AAC piston/liner.
what kind of oil do you use?
Looks like 3 in 1 oil....
