    That aluminum spinner is what saved the carb from being ripped out of the case. That saved you from having to replace the case. Although it looks like the spinner is toast.

      I agree, the spinner probably saved it, good point.

      Yep, but be careful hand starting. I try to use a starter or stick. Ive have my finger sliced open starting by hand.. be careful. And yes, once broken in correctly these engines run great!

    Hi, sorry I don’t know off hand. I did run a master airscrew 12-6 in the past and it drop the rpms prob into the mid 9k range. Which was to be expected, but I found back then the plane I was flying at the time ( Great Planes Escapade) flew better with the smaller 11-6 with higher rpm. Sorry I can’t comment more about it.

    The engine 'sags' for a split second when you whack the throttle open, your low speed screw still needs a bit of fine tuning! (Its hard to say whether it was a lean or rich bog, but I reckon it needs another 1/8 of a turn in or out)

    Really well made video. I enjoy all your videos, they are so interesting and really educational. Thanks. P.S, I don't have an OS 46ax, but I do have two OS 55ax engines, one on a Kyosho Calmato Sports 40 and the other is on a Hangar 9 P51 Mustang 40. They are good running two strokes.

    Great video! You know your stuff regarding glow engines.
    The 46ax 2 is a fantastic engine and super easy to use and tune. Typical OS quality.
    Regarding the carburettor retaining screws, I like to put a dab of loctite 242 so they don’t vibrate out, which they tend to do overtime, don’t ask me how I know!
    Just subscribed do wil check out the other videos on your channel!

      Thanks for the comment. Loctite is a good suggestion for the carb bolts, I use it on the engine mounts and landing gear bolts also. Cant go wrong there.

    If an OS engine on a hobbico nexstar was bought and put together 10 years ago and stored properly but never gassed never ran or attempted to start until now. What problems would you expect it to have if it doesn’t start? That’s the issue I’m dealing with and I’m baffled it won’t start. I mean yea it was old but I mean miraculous condition looked brand new. Could it be the 10 year old gas and glow plug ? Gas looked and smelled clean (was also stored properly) and glow plug tested and was orange hot. Plus It’s not even trying to start I didn’t even get a mild kick out of it once.

    • @JamesRCPlaneTech
      @JamesRCPlaneTech  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      So if the gas is that old I would drain it and flush new glow fuel through it. If the glow fuel sits too long the volatiles will evaporate away leaving too much oil in the mix. In fact I had a plane stored for a long time and the tank was just oil. I would also get a new glow plug, even if it glows it may look hot enough but still may not be if it was used. Lastly make sure the needle valve is clean, carefully remove it and clean it, try to flush some new fuel through the needle valve assembly and card. Just make sure also you can blow through the full line, no plugs. Hopefully you have the manual, if not try internet search, should be able to get a PDF, or find it on ebay. Ok, last but not least, are you using an electric starter or just by hand? I find it hard to hand start. Make sure as you turn it over you can see fuel flowing to the engine. An electric starter will get that engine tuning fast and suck that fuel in. So in summary, new fuel, new plug, new lines, manual for settings, electric starter. I bet it could just be the old fuel. Let me know how it goes!

  • @donrichter3523
    @donrichter3523 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I expected a better performance than that on an 11-6, at least another 1000 rpm. I’m guessing you didn’t remove the baffle from the muffler.

    • @JamesRCPlaneTech
      @JamesRCPlaneTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are right. The baffle is not removed. That’s something I will check when I get this kit ready, to see if that will kick up my rpm.

    • @bleak0218
      @bleak0218 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is it better to remove the baffle?

  • @rperry70
    @rperry70 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Throw a 10-6 APC on it when you fly. Get the thing in it's power band. Sounds rich as well. Should be happy in the 14,000 rpm range. 11-6 is just too much load for it to be happy.

    • @JamesRCPlaneTech
      @JamesRCPlaneTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That Prop size is something to think about.

    • @shelbyseelbach9568
      @shelbyseelbach9568 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      According to the manufacturer, the 11x6 is about right in the middle of the suggested prop range, but maybe you know better than the manufacturer?
      Prop sizes straight from the manual, 10.5x6, 11x6-8, 12x6-7.

    • @donrichter3523
      @donrichter3523 ปีที่แล้ว

      Umm…yes smartass. Most of the props are too big to reduce noise, not increase performance. I’d run a 10x6 as well.

    • @bleak0218
      @bleak0218 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried to fly my 46 AX II with 11x4, 10x8 and 10x6 props. The 10x6 works really good, and the engine feels to run more freely. Would You suggest to remove the baffle?...

    • @JamesRCPlaneTech
      @JamesRCPlaneTech  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Up to 17,000 rpm per manufacturer, but usually less. Depending on fuel mixture, prop size, and atmosphere, the rpm is around 12,000 or so for me.

    I have the same engine, I put 1.5 turns of the main needle... and the engine does not start, what to do?

    • @JamesRCPlaneTech
      @JamesRCPlaneTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well. If its a brand new engine and you are breaking in, the high speed or main needle should be set rich at 2-2.5 turns open. And the throttle open about 1/4. So try opening it up another turn. Check your glow plug, should be very hot, bright. If in doubt, try replacing glow plug and make sure battery power is good. Are you getting fuel? Check that fuel is flowing from tank. Hopefully you have the manual, if not you can search online and get a free download. If its an older engine, for sure check the glow plug. Good luck. Let me know if any of those things help.

    very scary seeing you standing in line with that propellor to adjust the needle valve. You said it was an old propellor that could easily shed a blade. You need to learn to adjust that mixture with your left hand, standing behind where the wing might be, for your own safety.

    • @JamesRCPlaneTech
      @JamesRCPlaneTech  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great point and advice. I usually do adjust from the rear, but obviously here I didn’t and its good to point that out. Safety is always the most important thing and I appreciate your comment, it will help others as well. “If you see something, say something “ thats what we all need to do.
