Good buy personally Ollie it as a promise of some pay back with tree removal and chipping You have the kit to do it which is a bonus Remember they aren’t making any more land
If I was in charge of the woodland, first job with the woodland would be cut all the ivy at the base of the trees to save them. Secondly utilise the facility with a training group for chain saw training which in turn would help towards clearing the fallen and hung up trees (Lantra) thirdly put all the brash and unusable timber through the chipper for chip, and finally good timber process for firewood. 90%. 🇬🇧🚜👍
We do exactly that with our woodland it works a treat as the management is done properly and sympathetically and at no cost and you have an income off the timber then grants etc just about will cover the cost of replanting. Then you can do other things from there when it’s all squared up and tidy.
Back to basics camp site, got one on next door estate. It’s sold out all summer. Cleaver idea is they sell their fallen timber to the campers for wood burners and camp fires. Love my on farm wood it’s my go to site for peace and quiet, enjoy just sitting next to a pond watching, listening, pure magic👌
Olly just check your NFU Insurance covers you for " forestry operations" Would not want any vehicles or people damaged and you not covered. There is a reason hung up trees are called " widow makers" 😊 Good luck.
Best of luck with the new purchase Olly. First thing I'd do is open an entrance onto the road, then see is there's any forest roadway grants & Forestry Reconstitution grants available. Get a forestry roadway built & go for planning for log cabins that you can Airbnb, but develop them so as you they could be sold individually in the future if needed.
Beauty of having chipper on wheels is everything goes to wood and trailed out to the farm, chop ivy off to give trees a chance, plenty to go at, access road thro wood for both fields,
Perhaps, get some hides in for education and schools for the woods. Also leave some of the fallen trees, for the insects to live on / in. One could charge for the bird hides by the day. and allow people to get pictures. What may look untidy for most, could be a home for insects. Best of luck with the woods. Is there any fallen trees that could be used for timber rather than chip it all. Name plates for the stables from the wood etc. Just a thought. Could also make a great school , collage or man shed project for the wildlife to help with the restoration, and free help, possibly Great video
Endless opportunities with a woodland. The campsite I manage is a woodland we have forest schools, bush craft survival training use us even police search and rescue. When we had loads of tree work to do especially stuff up high the local tree surgeon used us to train his apprentices
I will enjoy watching this new project! Just an idea. because you’re on the urban fringe. Maybe you’d be able to rent the woodland out after to someone to set up a paint balling business. That would keep the trespassers out too!!
Great video Olly all you need is a skid steer with a log grapple on and a 600mm chainsaw and go chipping in the forest and Olly is a lumberjack and he’s ok, he works all day and no comment about the night 😂👍👍
Loving the Olly rants hats ! Defo go for the woodland, look on it as environmental wildlife preservation scheme ! Who doesn’t love a woodland that can also generate income
Great video Olly, once the woodland has been cleared of the dead and unsafe trees and the ground cover tidied up I've no doubt the plants that have been stifled will show through and you'll see more wildlife (And I don't mean the Grey Squirrels or the feral kids from the urban area) The fact you will be working it may keep the kids etc out? 👍.
Great to the woodland . Over the last few months you have ranted about the government and farming which I agree with you . I think you should sell the hats with olly rants hats and hoodies . Keep going you have the public behind you . From a non farmer that watches you every day 👍
For those who are not familiar with the term "TPO,s" it means Tree Preservation Order. Effectively it is registration of individual trees which require permission before they can be cut or trimmed.
Those trees that are leaning and broke off ten feet up are so dangerous. I've taken plenty of em down, sometimes I swear they chase after me. Please be careful.
If there is a mix of TPO’s I would take a photo of each of the large trees you cut to prove necessity in case of difficulty later. Any argument will be after the event when you evidence is very limited. A picture of the locus worth a thousand words!
100% or so with an attack lunch out, and left-overs from yesterday's curry reheated as a biryani. Wet early. 4 yellow cars, and lots of police and ambulances doing red runs.
Looks possibly big enough in that woodland to find somebody to work in there and harvest the fire wood out. Rather than big kit smashing your way in 1 or 2 people with chainsaws and a little digger and get that timber logged up for sale.
Use all the trunks to form a boundary, clear it and fly tippers will decorate it for you, that will not be a good eco environment for conservationist to approve of! You will be hard pressed to please folk, but i have no doubt your skills will make the best of it.
HI, had no idea ivy was such an issue. The property looks flat, assuming it was farm land; maybe it should be again. Looks like a lot of low value trees anyway but maybe you can't clear land when/where you want to. Odd question, where do you folks get your Christmas trees from and are they sheared or natural. We grow ALOT of Christmas trees(balsam fir) and currently export to the United States and it looks like that may become difficult next year. Given you are just across the pond....kevin from nova scotia
you can play the long game with land/woodland .......it will always be there. as for government policy's they will come and they will go. how about a log round.......bet there's some wood burners and open fires in the older houses in your area. how about fencing the perimeter really well put in a pay to enter turn stile each end and charge people to go in there for walks/dogging etc
Ivy is a keystone species that provides food and shelter for many birds, insects, and bats. Its flowers provide nectar for bees in autumn, and its berries provide food for birds in winter. It does not kill trees, but can cause minor damage to weaker trees over time, but best left alone.
Does woodland come under IHT . I thought Mrs Thatcher took IHT of woodlands in 1980's because so many were in a terrible state or not being replanted. At the time some hardwood plantations would have had 6 or 8 lots of death duty paid on them as each landowner died & before the trees reached maturity.
was wondering that myself. Might have been an old badger sett, they used to be covered for protection - before we started wiping off the face of the country !
Not sure what demand when you are but dried hardwood logs sell for £90 and upwards for a bulk bag you’ve got all kit to do it dried it and deliver it, could you rent out for a child playgroup that’s a thing now to apparently
You’d be silly not to buy it,land on your doorstep doesn’t happen very often and besides you don’t want anyone else in between 2 blocks of land. Oh and it’ll help pay the tax when you’re gone!
It is my dream to own a wood. Could you rent it out to maybe the local wildlife trust or forest school something like that? You would get an income then.
What about wild boar, neash market, keep vegetation under control, they'll kill the ivy at the ground level I'm guessing If you coppice it, you can chip the waste as well as the blown over trees Hopefully the clearance chip would help fund a fence, or log sales Good luck with this additional venture Olly Oh you said you were urban fringe, what about tying in with local school and having a forest school whilst you finalise your plan, once you've made safe Take care all Back UK farmer's 🇬🇧 Geoff
@ I think I know who originally owned it. The original engine blew up so that was why a wagon engine was put in. The owner never ran it with front side panels on. Last time I was in it it was in the same condition you have it. That is my dream tractor. Exactly how you have it.
Take what you want for chipping, anything big, even if it's a bit rotten, you can slab & store. We 'made'over £10k after stacking & storing it dry for 2 years. We had a guy with a woodmiser slab it for us. Then get someone with pigs, woodland Pork is amazing!! Sold ours at a premium! 😊
@ChrisTyrer-b2r it takes at least 30 years to get any kind of return from planted woodland. Ours were trees planted 150yrs ago, try living off that kind of return, Bellend!
No doubt everyone that you speak to will have the same mindset in Government. Its almost as if they want farmers and business owners to bring country to a standstill to cover up for their incompetence
Olly you’ve got to speculate to accumulate could just turnout a good buy in future you have the gear to do it get a few shepherds huts in there be ideal or paint balling is another option feeling 90% today and Olly brilliant video
And what is any of that got to do with farming Eddie? Farmers want all there perks to give them an unfair advantage over real entrepreneurs. Then when they get pulled up on it they respond with "no farmers No food". The public has turned though and farmers have bo support for all there entitled winging! 🤣
All I can say is the best of luck with your wood 😮
Good buy personally Ollie it as a promise of some pay back with tree removal and chipping You have the kit to do it which is a bonus Remember they aren’t making any more land
That was the old world! We're in a shit time now.
If I was in charge of the woodland, first job with the woodland would be cut all the ivy at the base of the trees to save them. It will all change again in five years olly and hopefully for the better 👍
Great project the new woodland. Lots of informed positive comments I see already.
Hi Olly if you can fence it off, put in wild boars they will clean out the ivy on the ground, stop trespassing and taste great on a spit roast, 80%.
It will keep the team busy this Winter. Looking forward to seeing you tackle the project.
This one is next to a road and across is residential, so maybe not as peaceful as yours !
Evening olly, it's great to have some woodland, for logs for your self and keep the wood chop heap going.
Olly just check your NFU Insurance covers you for " forestry operations"
Would not want any vehicles or people damaged and you not covered.
There is a reason hung up trees are called " widow makers"
😊
Good luck.
It does cover us tbh used to do a lot of it
Best of luck with the new purchase Olly.

Wild camping .
Paint balling .
Nature training days ?
For woodland ideas
Would love to see more videos on how you work on this and develop it.
Big job on there Olly. Good luck
It’s all that ivy catching wind like a sail Olly
Best of luck with your new block of land Olly.😊
Excellent blog Olly - plenty of ivy to cut out, it’s strangling all the trees, nasty stuff.
Beauty of having chipper on wheels is everything goes to wood and trailed out to the farm, chop ivy off to give trees a chance, plenty to go at, access road thro wood for both fields,

plenty of ash plank wood in there and cord wood for fire wood leave some rotted wood in piles for nature and nesting
I will enjoy watching this new project! Just an idea. because you’re on the urban fringe. Maybe you’d be able to rent the woodland out after to someone to set up a paint balling business. That would keep the trespassers out too!!
Great video. Thank you for your hard work and time for British agriculture
Would logs not be more profitable for some of the trees ?
Great video Olly all you need is a skid steer with a log grapple on and a 600mm chainsaw and go chipping in the forest and Olly is a lumberjack and he’s ok, he works all day and no comment about the night 😂👍👍
Loving the Olly rants hats ! Defo go for the woodland, look on it as environmental wildlife preservation scheme ! Who doesn’t love a woodland that can also generate income
Evening Olly and team
Wood would make a great pheasant pen 👍👍
Yes had confirmation my calendar is on its way cheers Olly & Ian shame you carnt turn the woodland into a mini centre parcs
Best of luck with it maybe the new dog walk area the people could police it for you
Hi olly great video as always, looking forward to when you start cleaning the woodland, maybe set it up as coppice as an income just a thought
Fab, nice piece of woodland. Xx
In Scotland, we would have to apply for a license to chop up wind blow. Paper work gone mad.
Woodlands and carbon trading ,think your find it’s a good buy 😊
Great video Olly, once the woodland has been cleared of the dead and unsafe trees and the ground cover tidied up I've no doubt the plants that have been stifled will show through and you'll see more wildlife (And I don't mean the Grey Squirrels or the feral kids from the urban area) The fact you will be working it may keep the kids etc out? 👍.
Good for continuing to invest regardless of the headwinds you face. Sounds like you already have several ideas on quick payback.
Good video 👍 80% calendars look good.
Process and season some of the hardwood into logs they are very saleable for local shops, garages and garden centres
Hi Olly Nice one Thanks again
That ivy seems to drag the trees down
You could farm a life and never get the opportunity again well done fortune favours the brave
Great to the woodland . Over the last few months you have ranted about the government and farming which I agree with you . I think you should sell the hats with olly rants hats and hoodies . Keep going you have the public behind you . From a non farmer that watches you every day 👍
Looking forward to some sketchy Morgan + Quadtrack + Ratchet strap tree removal action.
For those who are not familiar with the term "TPO,s" it means Tree Preservation Order. Effectively it is registration of individual trees which require permission before they can be cut or trimmed.
Got plenty of logs for gateways now
Purchase makes sense but a lot of work.
Those trees that are leaning and broke off ten feet up are so dangerous. I've taken plenty of em down, sometimes I swear they chase after me. Please be careful.
Usually its the oak trees that have TPOs on them ..... but maybe wrong
Great video Olly
If there is a mix of TPO’s I would take a photo of each of the large trees you cut to prove necessity in case of difficulty later. Any argument will be after the event when you evidence is very limited. A picture of the locus worth a thousand words!
Will be nice to see you sort out the wood, the biggest killer of trees is ivy so that would best off. 80% Today
Ivy does not kill trees !
Seems to around here
@@thetessellater9163 it certainly doesn't help them then 😮
100% or so with an attack lunch out, and left-overs from yesterday's curry reheated as a biryani.
Wet early.
4 yellow cars, and lots of police and ambulances doing red runs.
Will be perfect job for u to take the chipper on
Be carefull around those trees that is hung up, too many has been hurt or worse when something unforseen is happening trying to get them down.
Big digger job id say
You can use that wood as a refuge for homeless wood pigeons. 😁
Looks possibly big enough in that woodland to find somebody to work in there and harvest the fire wood out. Rather than big kit smashing your way in 1 or 2 people with chainsaws and a little digger and get that timber logged up for sale.
Ideal camp site
Shame ivy takes over alot of trees be nice to get some nesting boxes in that wood
Some of those larger trees might make more money as saw logs. Perhaps contact local sawyers or foresters to see 🤷♂️
If that wood was on my Estate,I would give it a good thin out for firewood, you get more money selling it at roadside than you would for chip
don't chip it cut it up for firewood dopy worth more, the ones that are hung up are known as windowmakers
It might be worth exploring BNG as a income stream from the woodland
Is not logging the good bigger fallen trees more profitable than chipping . Then chip the small rubbish . 🤔🤔
Hi Olly, nice wood, may need advice from tree person, you have the kit and time, 75%,,
Any trees on preservation order make sure you keep photo evidence that they're unsafe before chopping.
Councils have officers responsible for trees in their area, recommend getting them in to verify where the TPOs are and if any need felling.
@@thetessellater9163 and put tree tags on those with TPO’s.
Use all the trunks to form a boundary, clear it and fly tippers will decorate it for you, that will not be a good eco environment for conservationist to approve of! You will be hard pressed to please folk, but i have no doubt your skills will make the best of it.

Is ash die back effecting some of the trees.
many trees are now showing more disease, and it can be best to leave them in place to avoid spreading the spores
you can play the long game with land/woodland .......it will always be there. as for government policy's they will come and they will go. how about a log round.......bet there's some wood burners and open fires in the older houses in your area. how about fencing the perimeter really well put in a pay to enter turn stile each end and charge people to go in there for walks/dogging etc
I think you mean dog walking not dogging 😅

Naar doesn’t look like it’s killed any trees there does it 😳😳. Come on look at it, I seen trees and hedge smothered out by ivy

In de video at 8:20 u showed what looks like an underground tunnel or was it just a hole that seems to be covered up by some wood
was wondering that myself. Might have been an old badger sett, they used to be covered for protection - before we started wiping off the face of the country !
It had a old house in there
Get some more signs around that woodland stating private property and that it’s a dangerous woodland to cover you
Not sure what demand when you are but dried hardwood logs sell for £90 and upwards for a bulk bag you’ve got all kit to do it dried it and deliver it, could you rent out for a child playgroup that’s a thing now to apparently
olly the woodcutter
airsoft or paintball would be fun use of a wood
So is there not much more money in logs than chipping all the decent size trees
Congratulations Ollie, well done. Can you reclaim it in time and make use of it that way
Was it doggers Christmas party lol 😂
Some of that is to good to chip, more to forestry than chip, unless you listen to euroforest and the like
You’d be silly not to buy it,land on your doorstep doesn’t happen very often and besides you don’t want anyone else in between 2 blocks of land. Oh and it’ll help pay the tax when you’re gone!
What about turning into a dog park?
Where u get your hi viz jacket from? Like it
Tonka Man😂
It is my dream to own a wood. Could you rent it out to maybe the local wildlife trust or forest school something like that? You would get an income then.
No editing out of nipped trapped chainsaws lol

Could you rent/lease carbon credits of woodland to the airport that is so close to you ?
Boom
Where is your MB Trac at Olly? Really wants to be undercover if possible.
It does tbh

It will be hit with bpr
@ and would it not have been pre budget?
5:04 can you develop it or turn it into farmable land?
Sadly not

Due to where you are located look into paint balling unless someone else already has one........85% today
needs permission, a bit close to resi
