So true! Matt Biolos shaped me a custom MAYSM to perfection. I was 230 pounds at the time and wanted 48 liters in a 6’2” and he nailed it. LOST boards are definitely big-guy friendly. Getting a custom HYDRA made as we speak- spring/summer 2021 is going to be fun!
I'm 5'8 190-210 lean or 210-245 most of the time beefy and fit but still heavier and can athletically and easily and smoothly move my body weight and I'm feeling this video... Every time I go into a surf shop I look at these tooth pick tiny low volume surfboards and realize it's a waste of time to look at them because I am too heeeaaavvvyyy!!! I agree customs are most prob the super best way to go unless the shaper has a few big guy designs like Matt Biolos or the Ultra Joe by Channel Island, etc... Hybrids and eggs are cool and fun but not high performance for big guys that want to shreeeddd on big manly agile big guy short board rip sticks made for heavier and taller guys Thxxxxx guys!!! You "naaaaaaaaileeeeeedddd" it. Awesomeness!!! Happy surfing from Virginia Beach, Kyle Watts
Thank you for the insight! I have been surfing since 9 years old (45 now), so I am very proficient at it. My dilemma is, I love riding quad fin fish surfboards for the volume and maneuverability, but I wish that they could make the shorter fish as thick as the bigger fish. I currently weigh 220lbs, but I don't want to step up to a bigger fish. Probably need to just order custom, but if anyone has any other ideas I am open to it.
I’m 6’5 225 lbs. surfed most of my life up until 5 years ago. Bought a 6’3 lost carbon wrap 21 wide 2.75” thick and I was having problems catching waves. So weird cus I’ve always surfed a 6’0 -6’1 retro fish that was 2.75” thick and had no problems. This board I got has 39 in volume.
What do you think about someone who is 5'11 or 6' and around 180 pounds? Pretty comfortable on boards around 40L @ 7'0 and actually have trouble duck diving sometimes. Bit too big. Found a board at 28L, do you think that would be too much of a step down?
Todd Proctor MonstaChief. You can buy them already shaped, which are made for bigger guys. Hands down best big guy shortboard. PERIOD. I’m 6’4” and 250lbs and ride 50L 6’5”.
There's loads out there. I've got a video coming soon on some of the options. It also depends on the type of waves you will be riding. Lost is a good place to start. Or find a shaper that has experience shaping for bigger people.

Being 6'3" and 195 lbs, I wish I had this knowledge when I started surfing! Thanks!
Yeah, that's what my channel is all about. Passing on this kind of knowledge and experience.
Rusty Preisendorfer is a great shaper for bigger guys. He's a big guy himself (and also one of the greatest shapers who's ever done it).

I'd recommend checking a volume calculator and going from there. Firewire do a good one.

I’m 6’3 and 240 lbs and I’m in the market for a proper shortboard that’s not super long
Try the ....Lost V2 or 3 Rocket
Lost Uber XL is worth a look. Mine is 6'4 at nearly 44L. I have reviewed it on my channel.
Have you checked out the proctor monsta chief??
Yeah, I'd love to try it. Quite hard to get hold of in the UK though.
How about the Uber xl
@@theoverstoker3430 yes. I have one. I've reviewed it on my channel. Check it out. Awesome board
@@theoverstoker3430 yes, they do ship, but it would be nearly as much as the cost of ths board to get it to the UK.
6 10 to 7 2 22 wide , 2 3/4 get 10 shaped pick out the gem thats what pros do
Surely its a scale up thing ????

I've only watched part one so far, but I think he's explaining the dilemma very well?
Big guys can’t surf. Stop blaming the boards.

Allen Sarlo disagrees with your assessment. I'd google him ripping malibu if i was you.
