  • MIT is pioneering microbiome research and discovery to develop new microbiome therapeutics to improve health at lower cost to society. The Center for Microbiome Informatics and Therapeutics (CMIT) was established to bring an engineering approach to understanding the role of the human microbiome, and to realize microbiome-based precision medicine and treatments for diseases and diagnoses currently without effective treatments, including Parkinson’s disease, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), autism, depression, diabetes type 1, scleroderma, and other autoimmune diseases.
In the next MIT Alumni Forum, CMIT codirector and MIT professor Eric Alm and CMIT founder Neil Rasmussen ’76, SM ’79 will discuss the microbiome’s relationship to human health, explore new discoveries, and share updates on microbiome-based therapies and treatments for diseases, disorders, and diagnoses.
