we you able to install the venture tech bed bars on the AT4 with a cover by chance? i have a 2020 AT4 Carbon pro. it is quite complicated to have a good set up installed due to bed carbon configuration... any pointers?
Javier HERNANDEZ you just need access to the four stake pockets. The two in the rear are already open but the two near the cabin you would have to cut a long the top of the bedrail. I have a video somewhere on my channel of how the install went you can see it’s just a small amount of cutting. That’s where you would have to decide if you want to cut into that carbon fiber or not.
@@halohalohikers3571 i saw your video. compared to my truck and i will have to make some cuts on the carbon to secure the racks. also, because of the same carbon pro design. not all covers work. so, i am limited to some options for overlander conversion!
I've got the same truck! 6.2L. So happy with the truck. I'll be following you to see what you do. Have a lot of the same plans, especially the SkyCamp. I got the WetOkole seat covers. Love them. ARB has some retractable steps that can act as protection from rocks and give the fam a step, but also doesn't reduce ground clearance.
Awesome build and walk around video. I was going to get a Trail Boss, but ended up with the new Tundra SR5 TRD Off-Road. I'm almost done with my build and just like you will be doing a walk around video and taking it to different outdoor adventures! Halo Halo? Sounds like the Filipino dessert. LOL :). I'm now subscribed to your channel and will be following your adventures.
The Tundra is a bad ass truck, congrats! In 2020 the only thing that slightly steered me away from the tundra was that it had drum brakes still. But there are certain things I disliked on each of the full size truck I test drove and at the time Chevy was the main one with a new body style I really liked. It came down to purely aesthetics. Yes! My wife is Filipino and we have “mixed” family. Hence the Halo Halo Hikers named. ✌🏼🥸 Good catch!
Love your set-up, I just recently got same truck color and everything...I am thinking about adding a 4" BDS suspension to get a total 6" lift with 20x12x33's...so my questions is after you lifted it to 6" how does it handle on the highway because I am not going to always be going off-roading and want to be able to take the family on trips
Handles better now and feels more responsive. I’m not aggressively changing lanes or anything crazy on the highway, but it feels comfortable. Only difference is a few less MPG’s with bigger tires.
If I had the longer bed I would have considered a camper shell but I can’t lay length wise in the bed. With the rack and rooftop tent I get the footprint of a king size bed.
Nice setup, I would like to make a suggestion without sounding hateful. Once you get the rest of your future upgrades I would highly suggest looking for a higher quality lift and wheels that can do without the spacers. Rough country and wheel spacers will put some serious wear and tear on that 50k+ truck.
I will likely upgrade eventually to something with reservoirs and more adjustments. I just couldn't justify the price at the time, if I would have spent that much on suspension, I would have just bought a raptor lol. I've had the rough country for almost a year now and without any issues. Aesthetically, I love the stance and wheels. I bought the trailboss for the black trim and rims, love how it looks. Its not the best for wheeling either, no front lockers (would have got a ram if I needed that) wheel wells make it hard to fit larger tires etc. Basically needed wheel spacers to keep the stock rim. I just love how the trailboss looks, for me that was the trade off of replacing bearings or whatever wear and tear will certainly come with the abuse I give the truck.
Hi, your truck looks awesome! I have a question about the lift. Ready lift sst is a 2" but comes with control arms. Rough country is a 4" and comes with everything except control arms. Why is that? Do you have any issues with your UCA?
From my understanding the body lift kits that are just spacers under the stock suspension require an upper control arm because it changes the angle of the control arm. The rough country I have is a full suspension lift including a whole new strut assembly which keeps the upper control arm angle same as stock. But definitely check with the lift kit recommendations and follow them, I’m just a guy on TH-cam lol.
This is the Roll N Lock M series tonneau. The only modification I had to do was drill a hole in one of the mounting plates. There is a video on my channel on the Putco rack install showing it exactly.
Great Video, nice set up!! Keep us posted on which rock sliders you go with. I’m looking for some as well. Also, have you considered a roof rack? And a sliding roof in case it rains keeps you and your family dry.
thespartanguru c rock slider video coming soon in the next month or so, stay tuned! Do you mean an awning? I’m considering one that Ikamper makes that attaches to my tent. I would use it more for shade, I live in Southern California and it rarely rains here. 🍻
@@halohalohikers3571 Thanks for the quick reply! Me and my wife (also Filipino) just got the same rack for our 2020 silverado after watching your channel. They forgot the RTT brackets so I am looking to mount right to the bars this weekend. Did you use regular bolts or a t slot design and if so is there a link available?
Truck looks great! Is there a reason you have the thinner side of the RTT towards the back instead of the front? On mine, the thinner portion of the tent faces front so that it slopes up, towards the back. Just curious if there is a reason to do it this way. The truck looks aweome man!
Just personal preference. It’s probably not as aerodynamic in this orientation, but I like thicker/heavier side over the middle of the truck and not hanging over the edge.
have you had any problems so far, i’m trying to lift mine but i saw the lift kit requires wheels that are 20’s and larger but im trying to do 18’s and keep stock wheels like u
It depends which lift you go with. But It’s usually doable with 18s, you have to have the right backspacing to clear the front tie rod and breaks. I used a 2” wheel spacer with the stock 18s and it worked. Goto a website like customwheeloffset.com and goto their gallery. put your truck info in and what your desired lift/tire size is and you will see how others have accomplished it. I modified this truck when it was brand new and wasn’t much info on it yet, so I’ve made a lot of changes since this video. Anyways let me know if that website helped!
Is your bed the 5 foot bed or the 6’6 bed! I think it’s the short box vs standard. I have to short bed and I am wondering if the putco rack will fit my truck?
Just the cross rails that come with the rack and tent. I think Putco eventually came out with an additional cross rail you can purchase but there wasn’t anything available at the time. It made install a little more difficult but it certainly feels stable, I’ve been using it regularly on the weekends now for about a year with no issues.
I'm installing my RC 4"lift kit soon id also like to use my factory 18" wheels i ordered 1.5" wheel spacers will this be enough or should I have went with 2" spacers

@@halohalohikers3571 I was more worried about the tie rod or knuckle hitting as rough country states you can't run the factory wheels because of this? Idk just love ur channel so wanted to give u a heads up about them... weird how i cant reply to peoples replies so if u reply and i dont respond its cuz of the youtube bs... gl bro!
I have a 2020 LT Trail Boss also, and like you, I want to add a 4 inch lift without changing from the stock wheels. I always suspected that wheel spacers would allow stock wheels to work, glad to know it did. Do you know if wheel spacers would suffice for other 4 inch lifts, like Zone and BDS? Also, are you still happy with Rough Country and the wheel spacers? I have heard bad things about Rough Country, but they seem to be getting better reviews these days, so I’m seriously considering them. Appreciate you!
It should work! As long as it’s 4 more inches of clearance and 35x12.5x18 tires. Larger tires would require more lift or more back spacing. I’ve been using the rough country lifted strut suspension now for a year without any issues. If I ever need to dial in my suspension even more for rock crawling or jumping dunes or something crazy I’ll cross that bridge and upgrade later. Right now it serves the purpose of fitting bigger tires without any cutting and significantly improved the ride quality over stock. So far it has been a win.
@@charlesrobinson4741 tbh I don't remember exactly how much back spacing was required to clear the upper control arm. I think it was like 4.5" total. So with the stock rim I ended up going with 2" spacers. Luckily the spacers are fairly cheap in the grand scheme of things, maybe you could order the 1.5 and 2" and then return whichever one you dont use? Sorry I cant remember the dimensions.
Nice video, but what is the overland thing people keep talking about. Never heard of overland before, is it a type of something or something new people say?
Just a millennial word for camping in your vehicle. Lol. The definition most of us subscribe to is that overlanding is all about the journey, not the destination. It’s an excursion that can involve off roading and sleeping in your vehicle. I personally like to think of it as exploring, I don’t plan my trips in too much detail, we just pick a National forest or BLM and go discover a good place to camp. That’s part of the fun.
louis almada I usually go with bigger is better, but they didn’t have the 6.2 option when I bought my truck. I guess with my set up I’m traveling long distances I don’t mind any improvement in gas mileage so I’m satisfied with the 5.3. It feels responsive enough for what I’m using it for.
@@halohalohikers3571 got you im the same way lol and I hear you on the gas milage also im sure its cheaper to register. So if were to do it all over with both options and being that you have the 5.3 which one would you purchase? thanks for all the feedback btw
louis almada I’m happy with the 5.3 I don’t think I could justify the cash for the upgrade. I would stick with the 5.3 personally. Maybe if I was towing a huge toy hauler it might be nice to have the extra horse power, but I see people towing huge trailers with the 5.3 no issues.
Any regrets so far with the trick and do you have any prior vehicles to compare it to? I was dead set on a 4 runner. They are a safe bet. But the larger truck would fit my family better.
Ian Mont I’ve always been a car guy more so than a truck person. Growing up imports always had a special place in my heart, I enjoyed modding them and carving through the canyons. Now the older I get I still love cars but I see the practicality of having a truck. And since I have two small children in car seats I opted for the huge back seat (it’s like a small living room back there). I still love the truck and look forward to the weekends again! Also, you can’t go wrong with the 4Runner, I’ve had many Toyota’s through the years and never was disappointed.
Anthony King Hell yea! It’s awesome to get more people interested in overland mods, hopefully more company’s will make stuff for the trailboss. It’s such a bad ass truck.
While looking into bumpers just a heads up bro if you have blind spot detection on your TB, upgrading to a nice Steel bumper you might be losing that feature. I bought the ADD stealth fighter bumber front and rear for mine and ran into this issue. The blind spot module sits in the step of the factory bumper. Basically ADD told me I was SOL and would have to remove the module if I want to run their bumper so I did and now every time I start up I have to acknowledge the service blind spot message and I have to live with the blind spot light staying on all the time (even with the truck off) which I believe is slowly drawing current from and killing battery.... so long story short I'm trying to find away to fix this lol other than that it looks freaking sweet 🤙🏾
Anthony King Good call! Most of them advertise if the parking sensors still work or not but don’t mention the blind spot monitoring. I’ll have to inquire about it before pulling the trigger. Thanks for the heads up!
I’m not 100% sure since I didn’t test the 1.5”. But, I went with the 2” after researching this exact lift kit with 18” rims need 2” of additional backspacing. So that’s what I went with. I personally love a wider looking stance anyways.
I also have a trailboss and want to lift it but every lift kit I look at says that after you install the kit you can’t use 4wd without running the risk of breaking something. Is this true and what kit should I get?
Every lift kit is built different, generally you get what you pay for. I have a higher end "mid tier" full suspension lift from rough country. I will likely eventually upgrade to the top of the line "fox/king/icon" names. That being said, my lift has worked well for what I'm doing with it. I use it in 4wd almost every weekend no issues yet.
Love the truck man. I'm wanting to do 35 12.50s on my stock 18s as well - I know yours has 2" spacers but do you think you could have cleared the UCA with 1.5" spacers? Ive got the RC SST 2" going on for 4" total
Kurt A that’s correct, to fit the 35’s on my stock rims I had to add 4 more inches of clearance and 2 inch wheel spacers. You can goto a website like customoffsets.com and goto their gallery and see all the different options for lift and tires and see what fits. There is many ways to skin a cat. The lift i got was a medium budget lift, there are cheaper versions you can get to fit 35s, but I would definitely goto the gallery and look at the different options.
Nice build man, I just ETSd from the Army and I’m trying to finance a Trailboss. Getting offered 5k rebate vs $7250 from Ford but I think the Chevy is a nicer truck overall. Thinkin I should wait til the end of the year or even 2021 since dealerships won’t negotiate due to low inventory and people buying a ton of cars during the pandemic. Stay safe, hope to see more mods to the truck in the near future 🤙🏼
Super helpful video. Thanks for the walk around. I’ve been looking for someone that run 35s on stock wheels with a 4 inch lift for the TB. All the lift kits I’ve researched say that stock wheels will not fit.

Also ill be running the factory tires till spring and then I'm going with a 17×9 wheel with 35" tire. Can you please check if I'll clear with just the 1.5 wheel spacers ? Thanks and your rig looks awesome!
@@Gearhead4life87 2” wheel spacers required to clear it 👍🏽
@@halohalohikers3571 thanks and Happy New Year
@@Gearhead4life87 of course. HNY!
Hey bro, i bought and installed an emp shield on my f150 and its for lightning or worse.. pretty sure if u contact them and do a review theyd give it to u for free? Idk just love ur channel so wanted to give u a heads up about them... weird how i cant reply to peoples replies so if u reply and i dont respond its cuz of the youtube bs... gl bro!
thanks man I will look into one!
Appreciate all your information. Do you know or remember whether the full 2 inch spacer was required or could a 1 or 1.5 suffice?
@@charlesrobinson4741 tbh I don't remember exactly how much back spacing was required to clear the upper control arm. I think it was like 4.5" total. So with the stock rim I ended up going with 2" spacers. Luckily the spacers are fairly cheap in the grand scheme of things, maybe you could order the 1.5 and 2" and then return whichever one you dont use? Sorry I cant remember the dimensions.
Man, I was thinking the same thing, I’ll order both and see what works. Thank again!
do you think u can still add another mini ikamper in the front cab
Hmmm not sure, I would have to measure things out!
Now that I look at a side shot I bet you could definitely have a tent that folds out to the side over the cab. That would be insane!
@@halohalohikers3571 yup sounds like camping to me lol. Thanks for explaining it.
Id like to see your gear.
sick truck bro , I'm looking to buy this exact same one.Is this the 5.3 motor and shadow gray ?
louis almada yes!
@@halohalohikers3571 nice brutha how do you like it ? Im trying to decide between the 5.3 and the 6.2 motor what's your thoughts on the two?
louis almada I usually go with bigger is better, but they didn’t have the 6.2 option when I bought my truck.
What size leveling/lift kit and tries do you have on your truck?
6” suspension lift
At 1:14 where is he cant find it on Google maps would like to go to the same spot lol
Hey halo is your trailboss the short box?
Yes
This dope dude I'm working to build my trail boss into a overland rig as well. This is the perfect start
Anthony King Hell yea! It’s awesome to get more people interested in overland mods, hopefully more company’s will make stuff for the trailboss. It’s such a bad ass truck.
Definitely curious about rock sliders too
While looking into bumpers just a heads up bro if you have blind spot detection on your TB, upgrading to a nice Steel bumper you might be losing that feature.
Thanks for the heads up!
can a 1.5 inch wheel spacer do with the wheels ??
I’m not 100% sure since I didn’t test the 1.5”. But, I went with the 2” after researching this exact lift kit with 18” rims need 2” of additional backspacing. So that’s what I went with. I personally love a wider looking stance anyways.
@@halohalohikers3571 ok, how many inches are the tires coming out ??
@@edwardnoel9487 I have a 12.5” wide tire as well. But over all it sticks out about 2”.
Hi ur not facing issues with ur front axles with those 35?
No steering issues, feels better than stock.
Love the truck man. I'm wanting to do 35 12.50s on my stock 18s as well - I know yours has 2" spacers but do you think you could have cleared the UCA with 1.5" spacers? Ive got the RC SST 2" going on for 4" total
is the 4" additional lift necessary if i want to upgrade to the tires you got with the spacers? I just got myself a 2020 custom trail boss. Cheers!
Thanks for your service. 🇺🇸. I waited until November, I believe it was truck month and always better to buy at the end of the year like you mentioned.
Super helpful video. Thanks for the walk around. I’ve been looking for someone that run 35s on stock wheels with a 4 inch lift for the TB. All the lift kits I’ve researched say that stock wheels will not fit.
With the right back spacing it works! Just need 2 inch wheel spacers to make it fit.
What brand wheel spacers you running?
@@therealchrisbrown24 rough country
I just bought a 2021 Trail Boss. Loving it. Nice rig! How do you stick your overland patches to your roof?
Double sided Velcro and sewing pins for the heavier ones!
What kind of spacer did you buy ?
I have the 2” steel spacers from rough country
Is this the short box or standard for your putco?
crew cab only has one bed option, its the 5'8"
What brand spacers are you using?
Let me know what bumper you end up with, nice truck so far

Sweet truck! I got a trailboss too and I want to install the roll n lock. How much was it and was it hard to install?
elwennier26 about $1200 on amazon. It was a fairly easy instal, use the provided shims and measure to the centimeter.

Man should have done a pre runner kit. Lifts are useless..
That's what I'm doing to my Silverado...
dope truck!!! i bought the same thing but mines the 2020 midnight edition. Quick question, as u know it comes with the 2" lift but its not leveled. From what you said in the video RC made a 4" lift kit that was added onto your 2" kit right. If thats so could u possible link the lift kit you bought because im trying to do the same thing you did to yours. I love the 6" look!!! thansk so much!
Do you know how tall you are? I’m assuming your over 7ft...
My roof top tent puts me at 7'9"
Halo Halo Hikers thanks for getting back to me! if I understand correctly you also have 33’s and a 6”lift as well. If you get a chance sometime, could you measure the height of the rack and tent?
Jeremy Busch Yes 6 inch lift. (I have 35’s not 33’s) Rack is 16 inches tall, and the tent 12.5”. Total 7’9”

Nice truck. Be careful with seat covers on your truck. You have airbags in the front seats. Most manufacturers won't recommend it. I have a Custom TB with no airbags.
John Sparks II interesting! I’ll have to do some more research, thank you. Are the air bags for the rear passenger? I was unaware of this.
