  • I tried my best to make everything as clear as possible.still if you do not understand then you can personally mail or comment down below I will clear your all doubts as soon as possible.
    I will show you how to make a set of gravers with the template. For past 3-4 weeks, I am researching on engraving and I found myself so much attraction to this work that I decided to step into this new kind of work. I saw many companies selling the set of gravers but overall in the end if you are going to use them then you definitely need to sharpen them again because their sharpness not going to last long because if you are a beginner then I think you are definitely going to break a lot of tip during your work and for that you need to sharpen that graver and there is no doubt that you are not getting the exact angle you need to grave the metal surface. so by considering this thing in my mind I decided to make a set of gravers completely out of scratch and decided to share my experience to others so that anyone who is fascinated about doing this new work can easily able to master this technique. This doesn't seem hard to make the graver shape but if you don't have power honing wheel then this will take a lot of elbow grease to make the set. other than that if you like this then make sure to leave your valuable feedback in a comment section. I'm pleased to read your feedback.

    This is the best tutorial regarding graver sharpening/making on TH-cam!
    I have one question though - the small templates for angles - are they universal, or how do You tell the dimensions regarding the lengths of G(raver) X (to the “center” point) and Y (above “center” point for heels)
    Is it same and You just make the e.g. 120 degrees angle from the top Y-point?
    Thank You and keep your good work

    • @ambroscustom
      @ambroscustom  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the appreciation brother. As far as smaller template are considered they mainly used to thin down the tip. There is no problem in using directly bigger template on 4 mm graver but the problem occurs on sharp corners. The tip tends to break and doesn't give you clean cut. To decrease the size those are used. If stock material is around 2mm then you definitely have no need to use the smaller template. As far as dimensions is considered for the smaller template the overall motive is to give taper to the 4mm square graver in such a way that tip became 2mm square and from 1" to the tip it remains 4mm. That doesn't play important role. If your stock is 2 mm those templates have no use. I don't think that they are universal. If you increases the length of graver and the holding length you definitely need to change the size. After making the graver and reanalyzed them I would say that angle between 2-4 ° works for smaller template.

    • @ambroscustom
      @ambroscustom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Heather appreciate your words. For the diamond plate it's 8mm thick. If you want much detail over this topic you can check the pdf instructables file in the description. If your stone height is little thick you can place a shim underneath that and perform the heal making process. The bigger template is used for making heal of the graver. The angular section onto the bigger template. If your grinding stone height is not upto my calculations then there might be some problems in attaining that heal. Recommend you to take a look over the written pdf. If still have problems let me know. Thanks

    Hi Ambros!! I come from watching several videos bout engraving, I hope YOU can answer mydoubt. What matetial should I use to make them? I mean, the graver?
    At what distance do you know to place the graver from the template?

    • @ambroscustom
      @ambroscustom  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As i experienced that if you are newbie like me then I suggest you to go with hss instead of carbide. Downside is that you need to hone the tip after few intervals that consumes time but not too much infact nothing if you break the carbide bit and need to rebuild the tip. That grinding time took around 10 - 15 minutes depends upon the chipping onto your carbide graver. HSS graver are much forgiving, once to master the technique then shift to carbide blanks. Few shapes you can made with carbide are oval shape, flat graver, round graver these are much forgiving compared to other having sharp tip vary from 70-135°. My advice is to go with HSS and then with carbide. For the holding method you can visit my instructables blog post link in the description for detailed information.thanks :)

    Hi man. Thanks for sharing the templates and the way of making them. I gotta question about the small templates. how did you draw them ? I mean does they have heel and face angles???

    • @ambroscustom
      @ambroscustom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they have a specific angle given to them and for the heal work you need to use the bigger template not the smaller one. The smaller one are for the initial shape like the Pentagon shape of graver. Smaller template provide you the perticular angle of the graver like 120°, 90°, 150° etc.

    • @mahmoudjam670
      @mahmoudjam670 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ambroscustom I understand the small templates are for shaping. See I pick 45degree angle for face in big templates. When we using the small templates they also have angle between the graver and the bench stone, what's the angle? 4degree? I'm sure they're not flat.

    • @ambroscustom
      @ambroscustom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes its 4 degree, but also depend upon the grinding stone you are using. I am using diamond stone of 8mm, in the the end this is going to reduce the tip size.

    • @mahmoudjam670
      @mahmoudjam670 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @ambroscustom
      @ambroscustom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mahmoudjam670 you can use some sort of spacing under the template so that the height difference remain 8mm. Although that initial angle doesn't matter that much. The tip angle matters only which is 90°, 120°, 150° etc.

      Buddy I heard from many master engraver to use HSS or carbide, no one recomend using a carbon steel. HSS is also cheap and you can get a precise dimension blank at any tools supplier shop. The bigger templetes are used for facing and heel work which do the cutting work. They are important part also. Thanks.

      Dear you definitely need some tools if you want to pursue Jewellery. Even in the jewelry there are so many sections. Like engraving stone setting, casting and many more. Jewelry saw, file set, diamond sharpening plate, vise, rotary tools and burrs suggesting foredom for that and it comes up with alot of attachment. I hope this much is sufficient to start a jewellery work. Even these things going to cost you around 120-130$ depend upon where you live. But you definitely need more and more tools as you increase your skill. Frankly told every tool has its own advantage. You can do multiple task with a single tool but the thing is that you might not get the good results. So I would say less tools definitely have some barrier in making. Brother there are many masters from where you can see what things are necessary, I told you what I uses when I started. Foredom is must to buy, really the best and versatile tool and comes with different attachment. In first no need to buy expensive tools because I think that in the learning stage you don't even need the professional quality tools although they definitely have advantage but cheap tools can also do the same job. Only thing you need is determination and practice and remain positive. Hope this will help but definitely consider watching other jewellers as I am not very good in this field. Good luck, stay healthy:)

      Yes the templates are small, and are A4 size, you need to see the details over instructables that how much you need to stick out to make the right degrees of angle. Size never plays any role, the thing matter is that the length of stick out.

I suggest you to go with 3mm they are much better. If you didn't have diamond plate for grinding don't go with carbide, because wet stone can't able to handle tungsten carbide. They worn out very fast and not even able to scratch carbide. I didn't have any plan because people never asked for that. If I get time then I definitely post them here. Try my best to upload soon. • @ambroscustom
