  • The MTB tyre pressure challenge - How low can they go? Me and Lewi Pilgrim go head to head at Twisted Oaks Bike Park to see who can get their tire to the lowest PSI before destruction on MTB trails and jumps but who will win?
    Me and Lewi Pilgrim go head to head at twisted Oaks bike park on full speed MTB trails, huge gap jumps, table tops and fast berms with the goal being to find out who's tyre can get to the lowest PSI before it blows off the rim or gets a puncture. We decide to use the super fun trails of twisted oaks, one of our favourite local bike parks because of it big variety of trails, perfect sandy berms and most importantly, good vibes! We start the video off with some GoPro runs through the best lines with our tyre pressure dropping by 10 PSI each time until we get to 30 where we then go down in PSI by 5 each time until destruction. Each time we let out some pressure we ride a different trail to spice up the action. But how low do you think we can go before the end?
    I hope you enjoy the video!

    • @ManWalksDogs
      @ManWalksDogs ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think my track pump has the knob adjuster valve but it does make me want to check it.
      ...Ahh, just recalled a little spring-loaded button that does the same trick.
      I know I have two flats but then also know I need to replace both tyres (and i think replace one of the badly patched tubes) before bothering to pump them back up again. I'd usually cram as much psi in until I can no longer push the pump fully down, then a quick dab on the button before releasing the pump, maybe a quick tap of the Presta valve nut too before doing it up. But I don't run high pressures for the same reason as Sam...

    3 or 4 PSI. On the fatbike in real winter (Canada) on a fresh snowfall, with loose snow. That's with 4.5" wide tires: 45NRTH studded Wrathchild tires. Those tires on 4" wide rims feel somewhat firm at 10 PSI - the tires are quite tall. It's all about traction in winter on snow and ice! We get enough snow here the rocky-rooty trails get smooth. Total winter snowfall is in the 160 - 400 cm range over 4 - 5 months, with a few bouts of freezing rain too...

    I used to think you had to run 40+ PSI especially on cheap tubed tires but one day I tried 36psi and noticed I had a lot more control over sand patches. So now I run 20-28 in the front and 32-40 in the rear on cheap tubeless tires. The rear is a lot higher because I sit almost chopper style, with most of my weight over the back tire.

    Nice one! Its hard to find that balance point where the cutties are predictable but don't happen too easily and it doesn't get squirmy on the jump lips. I think it's like 34-36 psi for me in back depending on the tire casing and how worn out the tire is (have to pump them harder when they get older). Sometimes though just don't want to deal with downhill pinch flats and then it's 45+ for me on the dh bike.

  • @ShadLife
    @ShadLife ปีที่แล้ว

    I actually run a different pressure on the rear than on the front. Since the rear takes more weight and pressure in turns I run about 24 or 25 PSI tubeless. On the front, I will go about 21, but sometimes even lower if I want more traction. Rim width does matter. I run 2.6 tires and 35 mm internal width rims on my full suspension bike. If the rims are narrow, then the tire flexes to the side a lot easier, especially at lower pressures.
    Tire volume makes a big difference also. 25 PSI on a 2.8 tire vs a 2.1 tire makes a huge difference. A 2.1 would be pretty squishy at 25 PSI as a 2.8 would be pretty firm. On my Fat Bike with 4.8 tires, 12 PSI is pretty firm and 20 is rock hard.
    I weigh about 190 pounds and that also matters. Heavier riders on heavier bikes (like eBikes and DH bikes) need a little bit more pressure.
    On my BMX bike and DJ bike, I run between 60 and 80 PSI with tubes for the exact reasons you stated. I would love to see the tubeless results.
    I love all your videos, especially these types where you test things out. I still refuse to put a steering wheel on my mountain bike though...😂😂

    That's some good footage of some Men being Men. This is something's a person can set as a future goal for oneself to work towards. At least the Viewing mind now has the proper images to use seeing this is more real than the rest ever seen or shown not that today's Men aren't the same as back then but Bikers are as good towards the fight as those Men putting in work up there on those bike challenges at the real bike park. Thanks Sam. Thanks Lewis. Thanks for the for the UK have a laugh everywhere. Why because they're the look, the disciplines a person can always use the good reminder. Also what may be good to watch is the riders stock how well Men carry themselves accordingly with the right words said the successful Man is alive again...right:) Thanks again. Have a great day! From Craig. Gary Brodsky, he had the goal of bringing Men back to being Men again. Not this what the small percent look down on in today's Men laughing at them. Craig the at least some modicum of Maleness better than the rest with your assisting me via your good movies. Tough guys.

    It would be interesting to see the other way around - increase the pressure until a tyre blows up on the trail.

    I had mine set to about 40 at one point on tubeless on my eeeebs and was super loose downhill. Once I got it down to 20-25 was gripping like crazy. This is of course on loose dirt single track moon dust pretty much.

      @Sam Pilgrim, Test Tubolight HD tire inserts...only 90 grams and presses hard against the tire sidewall. Try out a tire insert video..that would be the proper way to roll, plus get you a ton of views.

    Surely the tyre pressure is dependent on the tyre you run I run a Magic Mary and found they like about 16psi as the side walls are quite stiff. But on a Maxxis Dhr or the Disector I would run at about 26psi on the same bike. I am not about the big jumps and tricks that is for hero’s like Sam not me.
