    I cannot fathom wthat that would look like IRL... I live in New Zealand so just the vastness of the USA blows my mind 🙃 then to see and feel a storm like that and chase it ❤

    Seemed like the Dakotas and Montana stole the show this year! Awesome structure and bolts you got there⚡️

    I didn't know you were also chasing this storm. There was only a handful of us chasing this storm. Awesome video btw!

    I didn't expect to get such a lightning machine of a supercell so early in the season for South Dakota. Definitely one of my favorite chases of 2022

    Man, I miss those storms. Got caught in one as we were entering the Badlands. I still remember the lightning vividly.

    My biggest fear in life is tornadoes, yet here I am again watching this stuff lol.

    • @skiptalbot
      @skiptalbot  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exposure to and learning about a fear are great ways to conquer it. Many storm chasers were scared of tornadoes when they were young and then became deeply fascinated by them.

    I love interacting with the locals when I’m out chasing. As long as they aren’t talking my ear off of course lol

  • @zelkuta
    @zelkuta 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You know, the interaction with the farmer is something a lot storm chasers forget I think. Most people don't want a tornado, don't want to see a tornado, don't want anything to do with a tornado.
    Younger chasers today I think should that in mind when hyping storms and talking shop. Some people have lost everything because of storms and understandably don't share the same love for them. Chasers should be mindful to stay respectful of the locals and to keep in mind that when they are recording storm damage, that are recording the worst day of peoples lives. Don't shove cameras right in peoples faces. Be respectful of privacy, and ALWAYS check on people struck badly by storms, either by tornadoes, straight line winds, flooding, lighting caused fire, whatever. Don't just record someone house getting blown apart than drive by. Check on them!
    Alright I'm done ranting like an old man.
    Not aimed at you skip, you are always highly respectful and provide a stellar example.

    Wow, what a show, beats anything on my channel. I think 80% of tornado clips are overrated, so enjoy seeing this bolt fest

  • @kevinp1046

    Serious question: How do you guy not start freaking out when lightning really starts going off, and you're just standing next to an open field with a tripod? I've been trying to get lightning photos (with some success) but I feel like I'm constantly fighting the urge to hide under something.

    • @skiptalbot
      @skiptalbot  2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      if there's CG activity nearby I am in the car, where the metal frame of the vehicle offers protection. I'll setup a tripod and leave it, and sometimes I do it through the car's window while I'm inside crouched on the seat or in the trunk under the back hatch even so my feet aren't on the ground. Lightning scares me more than tornadoes. You can't see it coming, and it can mess you up in really awful ways. For that last shot I turned the car perpendicular to the wind so I could use it as a wind block, and I set the tripod up while crouched on the backseat. A few of those bolts were arcing overhead and I could see the beaded channel breakup.

    Was that a rainburst at the start? Is that the correct terminology?

    • @skiptalbot
      @skiptalbot  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, that's the storm's precipitation core, which is made of rain shafts and downbursts (rainbursts). It's where you would find most of the severe weather including large hail and damaging winds on this type of storm.
