Medieval Headdress WIMPLE - Wedding Ceremony & Traditional Folk Song

Authentic medieval headdresses (wimples) used to be made from the finest linen cloths but nowadays at home an improvised wimple could be made from a bedsheet. The cloth should be ~3m (10ft) long & 0.5 - 0.7m (1,6 - 2,3ft) wide.
Italian women abandoned their headcloths already in the 15th century, however in some areas of the Baltics this was an everyday accessory up until the early 20th century. Its origin can be traced back to the early Medieval period when wimple was popular all over Europe - the Wife of Bath and the Prioress are depicted wearing them in Geoffrey Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales".
Nowadays the tradition is carried on by the folk ensembles and singers in North-Eastern Lithuania (Aukštaitija).

Laikoma, kad stovinčiai merginai juo apsigobus (dar prieš rišant), abu kraštai turėtų siekti žemę, t.y.: truputį ilgesnis nei pačios ūgis padaugintas iš dviejų - apie 3-4 metrai gaunasi.
O dėl pločio, užsirišus po smakru turi susidaryti trys medžiagos rinkės (raukšlės) - tai apie 0,5 - 0,7metro.
