What a bummer to see that you stopped posting a year ago. This is a great concept and the editing is top notch. I really hope you continue this channel some day!
I do not want to detract from the importance of videos like this one, as expressing "the value of a first step" is one of the greater lessons one can impart, but 51 hours is not really very long at all. It's about a week or 2 if we include time spent on other things. A prodigy takes longer than that to learn to manipulate quaternions via assembly code to produce accurate artificial intelligence for a bot in an FPS game. Lots of people spend hundreds or thousands of hours building skills, and producing content with those skills, and then posting videos of what they created, which then get overlooked because they trust their audience to appreciate the result without going into such detail about their learning process or why their creation has value. What you're suggesting is that people don't want to see the results of hard work so much as have things explained to them, which would explain the surge of appeal of channels like 3B1B. I imagine presentation has a lot to do with it as well and that this video would have appealed a lot less if the voice over had been transcribed as captions instead. There are so many videos with tens of thousands of views explaining simple binary and boolean algebraic concepts in videos of 10 minutes or longer, but a video that is only a couple of minutes long which shows the results of a 1000+ hour project gets no views, even if the layers and layers of complexity of the project were originally built on those same topics that were popular in the longer videos which had far less time put into their development. It does make sense that limiting complexity of a presentation's topic and going into extreme detail would appeal to a wider audience, but I feel this discourages people from posting truly extravagant things that would be impeded by having to so intensely document their process beyond just taking notes - scripting, recording, and editing exponentiate process duration compared to simply performing the task being recorded. I bet B-a-S here even spent at least 51 or more hours on documenting this process into a 13 minute video, effectively doubling the time they put into it. Now imagine having to double the effort to demonstrate something you've spent hundreds of hours on to find an audience that will appreciate it. These are all my current theories for why it's so hard to find truly engaging content - on TH-cam, the Internet, and in general - and while some of it does surface from natural selection, it can't get much more common so long as appealing to the masses is more rewarding than appealing to audiences with greatly specialized knowledge.
A few ways to improve 3D pen stuff is to use a soldering iron (or heat gun like you had) to smooth the plastic together, use a dremel to sand it down, and paint it once you're finished. I haven't gotten to do this myself, but I've seen a channel that uses those techniques and his pieces are amazing.
@@sheldondrake8935 sadly that would create soot most likely, which will make the model dirty. with a proper soldering iron you can make sure to make temp of the iron itself specifically as to not burn plastic, too.

@@BuildaSkill that's because you need lower temperature. Like, 180 degrees or so for PLA, when it's soft, but not too liquid and sticky. The best way to do that, IMO, is the hotend of the pen itself, just like 3D printers do it!
@@BuildaSkill yea u really need to have a tool that u specifically use for smoothing out the plastic, i bought a soldering iron specifically for smoothing out the plastic but allot of plastic stuck to the tips of the iron still, got what i paid for though since it was a fairly cheap one, also depending on the plastic used a common lighter is more than enough to smooth 3d pen creations

My 10yo son got a 3d printer pen for Christmas. It’s called Mynt3D Super. Theres a pro one that lets you change the temp easier but I guess Santa couldn’t afford that one lol It was intimidating for him so I played around with it instead. I made him a pixelated Minecraft sword. He picked the colors and I brought it to life. He was like “WOW mom! That looks amazing” 😊 Made my day but I have a lot to learn for sure! The pen also came with a silicone mat with a bunch of shapes and lines and also a plastic “screen” mat thing so you can trace something without catching things on fire and making the plastic easy to remove from the surface. So I printed out a picture of a Minecraft sword, put the plastic screen on top of the paper and basically traced it with the 3Dprinter pen. Turned out quite nice for my first time. This pen opened up a whole world for both my son and I. Thank you for sharing your journey.

@Epic well no, the hours of recording are the hours of actually using the pen. The hours of editing are a good mention but nothing to do with building skill with a 3D Pen- unless he plans on puppeteering this video to an audience through his 3D Pen creations.

"because, honestly, no one's gonna buy it for me..."
Not true. I bought one for my Reddit secret Santa this past Christmas because it's one of those things just a little too expensive and a little too limited to buy for yourself but it's a fun thing to experience.
While he is talking about the robot 'Giant' he made it quickly show him making it and flashes R.I.P at 12:23 to 12:24
Eclipz Rock ok
Wow I’m pretty sure that only showed for 1-5frames so well done for spotting that
CocoThePuff Meza no u
indeed. im actually impressed you saw that lol I sure didnt
What?
The amount of work and time he puts in his videos are insane!!! Keep up the good work!
"it smells a way better than abs" yeah... Just saying you are not supposed to inhale abs fumes. They are toxic, you should really be using it in a well ventilated environment. 3d printer that uses abs usually print in an enclosure with a ventilation system
Christian Sandrini I have a 3D printer and I use pla instead of abs just because of the fumes
Theboss 14300 what the fu-
The first time I read this I thought you were talking about human abs
_Ah yes, the smell of 6-pack abs is so much riper than 8-pack ones._
@@Theboss-xc8gk yeah baba I use pla 'cause I' m broke AF.
4:16 that looks like some kind of micro-organism... oh yeah it's called the T4 bacteriophage. Kinda looks like it.
Oh true
Has anybody noticed that he spent 50 hours and he said “51”
Ryan Setter he said he spent one hour just getting used to it 😊
Ah I forgot about that. Thanks!!
@Epic well no, the hours of recording are the hours of actually using the pen. The hours of editing are a good mention but nothing to do with building skill with a 3D Pen- unless he plans on puppeteering this video to an audience through his 3D Pen creations.
now u have 51 likes ;)
dont like this comment it is on 69
I've got the same pen and I've made lines in the air! It's more time consuming, but it's worth it. You have to go REALLY slow, and take periodical breaks to let the plastic cool
Me: "when i see the video which a guy is making sonic with 3D pen"*thinks that 3D pen is easy to use*
me when i see this: nevermind.
Edit: - others are saying sanago -
*For others that are confused that why are they saying that*
"Sanago is the person who maked the sonic using 3D pen"
I thought it was going to be easier as well, and I didn't even get into the sanding/finishing stuff.
@@itstyraplayz1232 I down think you should be saying all that private stuff...

you're amazing with that thing. You could probably start a business making a million different things with that pen and sell them as christmas ornaments for 3 bucks each.... that's 3 million dollars! cha-ching!
Except if each one took an hour... then it would take 114 years to make them all. Don't think I'd live that long with all the fumes.
@@BuildaSkill then lets cut that 3 million down to i dont know ..30 bucks? No ok lol
That last one would probably sell for 40 Dollars++ easily.
@@LandersWorkshop Still far below minimum wage. I guess you could speed up with the process but even with 10 hours it would be just 4$ an hour.

I wish my grandfather was still alive to witness all the new things like this that are out today. He would have loved it all!
I'm actually surprised that the robot only took 15 hours, when I saw it at the beginning of the video I thought it would have taken much longer. Pretty awesome?!
Yeah, the robot was pretty fun, the vase was just painful though.
"Honestly, no one's going to buy this for me." That's so sad. 😢
why is no one talking about "crisp russet potato"?
Hmmm
This inspires me to pick up my own 3Doodler again! I got it as a gift when it was just released, played with it for a bit without really being sure what I was trying to, and then left it in its box for five years.

I'm still alive! Sorry it took.... 2 years.... but I made another video where I learn to 3D model using an architectural software called grasshopper. Different skill, but similar format:

Answers to a few frequently asked questions/comments:
1. There is a lot of info out there on toxicity of PLA and ABS, look it up and be safer than me!
2. I only tried the 2 pens so I don't know enough to make recommendations. The names of the pens I used are in the description. I bought them off amazon.
3. I'm glad you liked the video, thank you for all the nice comments!
