  • @CastroJordan
    @CastroJordan ปีที่แล้ว +22

    That full page style multitasking is pretty amazing. Not only should every other foldable implement that, but that would work on regular phones. I can see iOS doing that honestly and it would be amazing. It’s crazy how no other os has thought of that, it’s pretty ingenious especially for non-foldables imo.

      I don't find it that amazing cause in any phone you can swipe at bottom and it will open next or previous app

    • @CastroJordan
      @CastroJordan 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mehulrathod7185 not the same thing, that’s takes you setting it up so the apps are next to each other in app switcher. Sometimes they just refresh when you leave and come back, you can create app pairs so you can jump right in.. I can give 10 more reasons but that’s enough. Bottom line, this is way more fluid and nice. These companies are huge corporations, the consumers are supposed to continually push them to further improve products. If we had nothing but people like you, we’d probably have iPhone 4’s for $1500. I’m paying my money, I want the best of the best.

    What's funny about what Oneplus is doing is that it's basically the WebOS 'Cards' that both iOS and Android utilize, except crammed into a place where you can't dismis them. It works but it's really not that different from the general multi app overview. The parting the waters gesture is pretty cool. Seems very fun and intuitive.

    On Fold5 when you have 3 apps open at the same time, you can actually resize them horizontally. So you have one narrow one for twitter for example, and two wide ones on top of eachother. On 1+ Open you cannot resize the two apps, they can only occupy 50% of the screen.

    oneplus has the best implementation of multitasking of all the foldables in the us market. Do agree about the inconsistencies and bugs. They need to work those things out. One thing I don't like is if you use multitasking in landscape mode, there are a lot more of the borders on the side which is wasted space.

    You probably have already figured it out. But if you have 3 apps opened and the drag-and-drop floating window won't work, you can use the four-finger gesture to make it floating and the background will just jump back to the previous 3 apps.
    One thing I found weird though is that whenever I put it to sleep and turn it back on, I will be left will the active app on fullscreen only. No more multi-window.

    I don't understand the expanded view on the op. For me it's no different then having 3 apps open full screen in the z fold and swiping the bottom of the screen to move between the full screen apps. Only the z fold does it better as you see the whole screen app not 3/4 of an app with wasted space at the top/side etc to allow you to click to there to click it into focus. Also the z fold can have any number of apps open that you can swipe between rather than be limited to 3. I know the op can do this as well. Kind I said I just dont see the point of the expanded view over anything multitasking on the z fold

    Would be great if they add having 3 side by side panels plus one large expanded one at the bottom. Don’t know if the phone’s ram would be able to handle it though.
    However i love open canvas it adds a fun element to the idea of multitasking and it adds an additional option that solves the issue of having to shrink app window size when multitasking in situations where you dont need to see both apps simultaneously on display but still have either app a simple one tap away.
    (Particularly for me alot of times im online shopping or browsing reddit whilst playing youtube; i can enjoy more real estate to browse or shop online and still have youtube a tap away, optionally as a big window as well without having to switch between apps the usual way when using them independently in full screen)

    As someone who uses the Fold5 as a work device where I need multiple apps open AND viewable at any given time and the ability to utilize Dex, I could not utilize the Open in a multi task oriented way. As much as I wanted to LOVE the Open due to it's larger form factor, I just couldn't use it to replace my Fold5 unfortunately. I'm hoping Samsung reads the room. I doubt it'll happen with the Fold6, but the Fold7 needs to have the bigger screen real estate. I personally don't care too much about the cameras even if they are nice to have, hate the concept of giving up even a small amount of battery space for slow AF wireless charging and love fast wired charging so kudos to the Open for that.

When saving as a pair on the OP, do you have the options to save it to the dock, taskbar, or homescreen?

    Potential solution for the three app situation on OnePlus: whatever app is "off screen" just doesn't have a back gesture. If the third app is off to the side on the left then the "middle" app gets the left side gesture. The off screen app isn't in focus so nothing to swipe back on (you're not actively working on it at that moment).

    Shane, no one is really touching on app bubbles regarding the Samsung fold. It makes multitasking extremely efficient. You can have as many app bubbles as you went on screen that all quickly switch to full size apps.

    • @AIejandroide

      App bubbles are just minimized floating apps

      @@AIejandroide True but it's the same ease as swiping over for a 3rd screen or enlarging one screen while still having two apps open.

    It seems that oneplus knows that this aspect ratio is a fail, so they decited to implement multitasking while making aspect ratio more sense ( portrait). Plus on samsung you can send 3rd or 4th to deck on the left or right

    • @shanecraigtech
      @shanecraigtech  ปีที่แล้ว

      Another slightly less extreme way to look at this would be that they have picked an aspect ratio that works well for one app and tried to find a software solution to make multitasking better.

    Undeniably, foldable devices are catching fire here in North america. However, until more competition emerges in the marketplace to drive down the cost I will remain a spectator. frankly, I feel $1,700-$1,800 is beyond prohibitive. In fact, it makes me want to check my birth certificate just to make sure that I wasn't born yesterday.🤣 Still, I'm a huge fan of OnePlus devices and I feel that this is the best foldable that I've seen yet.

    Better than Pixel Fold. Not better than Z Fold. Yet.
    I had a OP Open and ran into a lot of scaling issues and outright head scratching roadblocks and limitations with some of the apps I use. It may be fixed later on, but im not waiting for the return window to expire to see if that rings true.

    • @hometownherotv

      @@Maxx134a this is not proven true in my experience. I'm not somebody that uses three apps very often but I do want the functionality that Samsung provides and that is consistently functional. As Shane describes in the video, OnePlus can only theoretically do half the stuff it's talking about doing. Many times you are met with apps that won't rescale to use pop-up view or split screen correctly. These are issues that are non-existent on my Fold 5. Also have several apps that I like to save as split view shortcuts but since some of these apps don't work within the OnePlus multitasking system I can't save them at all. The Pixel isn't a bad solution in some ways but I don't have any issues with apps whatsoever on the Z Fold and whatever I tell the phone to do it does. This flexibility has kept me away from the pixel fold not to mention the fact that they're charging $1,800 for last year's processor and subpar displays and charging in general. I also feel like the OnePlus and the Z Fold feel good in one hand whether it's opened or closed where the pixel fold feels awkward when it's open and trying to use with one hand.

    What I hate on my OnePlus is when your watching a video on the front screen and slightly open the phone the front screen switches off I miss what my zfold 5 had you could open the phone to use it as a stand , one plus no no sadly.

    This OnePlus seems to be a great smartphone but multitasking is what's going to keep me on my Fold 5 for the time being. Yes, I prefer the Samsung way of displaying 3 apps. For me it's usable, I sometimes have a document on the left, a calculator on the top right and my notes on the bottom right for example. Especially on the OnePlus, when you have the 3 apps side by side, there are bars that appear at the top and bottom and I don't like that at all.
    But above all, I use floating windows a lot, so they need to be functional with all the apps. Then there are the little things I'd miss a bit, like the stylus or the photo sensor that disappears under the screen...

    Thanks for this video about a detailed issue. I think Oneplu is reinventing multi tasking IMHO. Oppo / 1 + are innovative companies. Competition is great to shake up things rather than have this Apple- Samsung duopoly. I think i am going for the 1+Open and will see what happens when Samsung releases the Fold 6. If Samsung doesn't change things with the next Fold, then they are done.

    I'm gonna be honest here and say I like the '3 apps open at the same time' solution to OnePlus here is a little better executed over how Samsung does it.
    I suspect Samsung is going to do something similar with Android 14 for the Z Fold5 🙂.
