Everyday no matter what you do: put in work. Take small steps towards your goals every day that goes by. Don't let anything get the better of you or knock you down. Do what you love. Dancing in the studio isn't my favorite, but when you have a cool companion, then it is all the more fun. There are many mistakes in the video, this is not us being perfect. This is us working on our technique and different tricks. Male technique in ballet dancing is extremely difficult and physically demanding. There were a lot more outtakes than you might think ;)
This was such a joy to film, my bro Amar Smalls is obviously a ballet dancer but also a student at LaGuardia High School and a dope rapper. Trust me when I say we have some great collaborations coming up or the summer!

This is so inspiring! My 6yr old son just started ballet and he gets laughed at by other boys for dancing. When he watched this video it made him feel more secure in his choice to dance and he was especially excited to see that he's not the only boy of color to dance. I wish I remember the video because I would send it to you there's a video on YouTub. interview with a man that started the first male ballet class he talks about how it was very encouraging and a very good thing for men to have an all male ballet class just to have them in there and then their bodies work differently, so it was nice to see that being spoken about because I think more boys and Warman would do it if they had more men around them instead of feeling so awkward that they're the only boy or the second boy in class I wish I would have put my son in ballet class
@McNugget Fan I have a son I was going to put him a ballet class but it just didn't work out like that I've been around the dance field for a while so I just thought it was just such a great thing to put in a ballet class I don't really see any gender when it comes to that
I wish male ballet was less stigmatized cause the footwork, the power, the control, the strength that def goes into it, I love it all

Watching people dancing ballet or doing hymnastics feels so surreal to me. Like, they are so freaking agile, balanced and strong, but they are not other species, they are humans like any of us. So, that means everyone can do it with a lot of practice? Unbelievable. And absolutely stunning.

My boys dance. One is entering his 7th year of dance and the other is entering his 3rd.
My older son is auditioning for our studio's Company tomorrow, now that he is finally old enough, and is second guessing everything stating that he feels like dance is just for girls. My heart is shattered🥺 He has never said anything like this till now and I have no idea where he is getting that from. After our annual recital last Saturday he was so pumped for auditions. I'm trying hard to build him up and reassure him and videos like this are so incredibly helpful!

These guys are amazing ballet dancers, they can do anything. The technique is very strong. Don’t pay attention to those who said you don’t fit a ballet dancer profile because that’s a stupid construct. You are able of doing all types of dance. Your tour jettes are amazing, great elevation and extensions; beautiful arms, turns, backs omg. Beautiful strong young men keep the hard work and am an instant fan of your work!

They lack flexibility and the small steps in between to make the clarity more defined. Some steps are a bit too will but its amazing with their height of jumping and skills.

Wow!! BEAUTIFUL!! I found your video because I needed to show my 7 year old son that ballet is for boys and girls! He has been interested in ballet for sometime now & I've tried to teach him the basics. He just told me that he's afraid to take classes because the girls are going to laugh at him. This video was truly inspiring & an amazing way to show him that he can do anything he wants to do!!
My sons came from school saying that boys “dont do ballet”. I show them this video and now they are trying to dance as you do…;)

watching skilled dancers and gymnasts literally makes me cry and i don’t even know why. i think it makes me happy to see the cool results of a lifetime of effort. i wish they could see themselves through a layperson’s eyes just once and see how unbelievable and cool they look

I was the only male dancer when i was a kid, never good enough to go pro, cos i started late, but my dance teacher told me any ballet dancer was fitter than nay footballer! Made me feel better!

I have two boys, 7 and 9 and my oldest asked me if boys could do ballet. I told him, Yes ofc, and he rolled his eyes at me and said, Thats weired.
I said to him, No it's not and it' s great for strength and flexibility and great for your posture.
To show him what male ballet dancers looks like I TH-camd it not knowing what to expect. This video came up first and I showed them and they were mesmerized. 😊
They were so impressed that my oldest said: I can do that and tried to do a spinn and ended up on the floor. And that was the end of it. They didnt say anything more. And accepted the fact that boys can do ballet 😊 .. (Looking cool too)
I danced myself when I was younger and loved it. Still do.

I’ve become interested in ballet after seeing ‘Black Swan’ and this was a great video. It’s crazy that people joke about male dancers being effeminate. Look at the muscles on these guys - their strength & stamina is incredible.

completely disagree - its meant to be fun and fast paced.
I'm a straight guy. Cis or hetero or whatever they wanna call it now. My biggest regret is not doing ballet. I see ballet much like yoga or martial arts. I think ballet and gymnastics are almost like home base. It's a great foundation. These guys are good. Haters can talk, but not everyone can work at this 6 hours a day.

It would be interesting to see how you guys would perform in track and field events like the long jump, the high bar, hurdles, etc., where your height and stretch in jumps would be really valuable. I'd like to see that.

wow... now that you ppoint it out I do realize my ass was quite high. track and field huh? personally I know that I do not have the best spacial awareness so I know for a fact I would be crashing into all those hurdles and stuff regardless of how high I jump lol... as far as the rest of what you said goes.... i really have no freakin idea what Rock and Bullwinkle is.... or Boris and Natasha... moose and squirrel? is this a national geographic ballet type thing? idk that might sound cool af. cheers -E

I came here from a magna xd there were like men doing ballet and i wanted to see how it looks in real life! And i gotta say its amazing! I was hating ballet for some reason and never wanted to try it, so i always did gymnastics😂 but now i saw it from a different side and i really like it😊 Anime really inspires me for some reason, like I've watched a lot of anime series including guitars or singing and i was playing guitar before watching them and didn't really like it.. But now I'm trying hard to get somewhere. To atleast play a whole song, I haven't reached my goal yet, but I'll keep trying😊 The same thing goes for gymnastics, I'm trying to get better each time!

Ballet really is something special. It truly is. The hardest and most demanding and flooring of all sports. There may very well be nothing harder than the practice of classical dance.
I am eternally grateful for it's existence, for all it has done for me. Whoever invented it. Let me tell you all this story. My story. To paraphrase celebrated Prima Ballerina Gelsey Kirkland, "It's kind of a love story". I myself was the most unathletic kid possible when I was young. I didn't like sports. At all. All the rules and regulations and structure and all that. I played basketball--but I often missed. I played a bit of football. But I was even worse than that. I mean, I knew how to play. But... I couldn't. I played soccer. I didn't really enjoy it. I played baseball. Especially bad. I was once upon a time... one of the guy's who looked at ballet as "a total girl's sport". But then I saw Baryshnikov's interpretation of THE NUTCRACKER. I was breathless by all of it. And I wanted to move like that. So... I took up ballet. Later in high school. I checked out from the library THE BALLET WORKOUT WITH MELISSA HOWE. It was my introduction to the genre. I wasn't just watching ballet, I was doing it. And then I told my mother I wanted to take classes. I took private classes for a while as well as group classes (with an abundance of girls). My teacher choreographed dances for me. I danced with a company and at college--doing corps ballet.
Here's the funny part. Remember how I confessed before to being bad at sports? I no longer am. I mastered Yoga and Pilates rather quickly. And I became especially adept at football and basketball. And martial arts. The instructor at the dojo remarked how good I was. After ballet, all these other sports were ridiculously easy. Like falling off a greasy log. If you get good at ballet, you will automatically get good at acting. I owe all of this to me deciding to take up ballet.
Even Prima Ballerina Suzanne Farrell remarked, "I think everyone should take ballet classes. I know not everyone wants to be a dancer. But if you are interested in staying in good shape physically, and mentally for a long time, you should just take ballet class for a long time". Damn her, she was right. And it seems like more and more and more people are taking ballet, aren't they? It finally did happen. Ballet became... "hip".
