    Hey Chet. Tough harvesting conditions could lead to a lot of frayed nerves and heated arguments but the love you have for your father (and vice versa) is a testament of everything that is good. Thanks for sharing your harvest experiences with all of us. Take care and be safe Chet.

    After watching all the farming videos, I definitely have become friendlier to guys working. Earlier this year, I met a tractor with a sprayer on the back in the middle of our country road, and I just found an approach and waited for him to go by. He gave me a big wave, and I waved back. It took less than 30 seconds, and he got off the road and back to work quicker.

      there’s more to farming than riding around all day in a tractor i’ve done roofing in my younger days and it does suck on hot days but we do all our own construction and building grain bins in the heat is way worse dealing with all that hot shiny metal plus sorting hogs and power washing hog barns every couple weeks is no cake walk either at 4:00 inthe morning so you can get back to harvest or planting it’s not always the hardest work but the long hours do wear on a man

    I drove tour bus for 28 yrs then semi for my last 10 before retirement. The bird wasn’t something we had to deal with in the early years but became more prevalent in latter years. My story involves a young female who was super impatient and told me I was number one, so I blew her a kiss. Don’t think that made her day any better, but it sure brightened mine.

    Erik, I can totally empathize with you about motorists that have NO consideration for anybody but themselves. I had a little Chevy Malibu that literally made me back out of a narrow bridge with a grain cart because he couldn't wait till I was through before he came onto the bridge deck. Then, after I back out, the little psycho gave me the bird. Imagine my satisfaction when the SAME guy slid off the county road into my Wheatfield last winter. I was trying to be a nice guy and show some class and pulled his sorry butt out of the ditch. Why should I not have been surprised as, instead of thanking me, told me, " I sure as hell wish you rich farmers would keep your damned roads salted!" Oh well... my mom told me I'd have days like that.

    I completely support you guys. I was raised a farmer and am a Forester and part time farmer now. One thing to keep in mind is that no road taxes were paid when you bought the farm equipment or put that red fuel in there. The guy in the car paid his road taxes and wants to use the road he paid for. That being said, a few minutes does not constitute a bird or even any real reason to be upset. In the logging industry, we deal with this very often.

      Depending where you live, they high-jack the roads on everyone and many times aren't courteous to families, especially on dusty gravel roads. You have to remember they start in Spring with discing, then seeding, then fertilizing, the spraying pesticides, then fertilizing again, then silage if they also have cattle, then having, the harvesting beans, corn etc., yes discing again. It's neverending, and if you live in the path of that neverending activity, you're also exposed to the dust, noise (day and night), and shaking of the earth as those machines rumble by. I love farmers, but some are downright ruthless. They always take the shortest route and if it's dusting everyone in and keeping them awake, so you can't even leave your windows open or sit on your porch....no problem for them! Just saying' they're not all angels!

    Its always wet here in Scotland, where you get four seasons in a day even in Summer.

      I've been to Scotland in the summer and the weather would pass for winter in Australia. It was very cold in Glasgow, yet the tour guide just wore a long-sleeved shirt on the top deck of a bus, while we had virtually everything we owned on and still had to thaw out in a coffee shop afterwards.

      @@deaddoll1361 Aye It’s no place for the old. Fifth day of rain today, another four forecast. We are absolutely soaked standing water everywhere and below 5C overnight just not cold enough to freeze. It will not get above 14C now until next Spring during the day so won’t dry up properly until it does freeze. Which is getting later now probably late Nov early Dec, used to be frosts in October when I was a kid in the 70s.

    You guys should make unload driveways for your trucks so when it's muddy you don't have to unload on the road. And it would just make everything so much easier

    • @10to1imjokin
      @10to1imjokin 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That "driveway" would have to be hardpacked gravel, 60+ feet into the fields, and about 20 feet wide so the semis could get backed into the field in the first place. Those are dirt farm roads out there, not 20 foot wide town roads. These issues happen only at harvest time, not an everyday occurrence. Are you sure you aren't the guy who flipped the bird?

    I deal with a lot of impatient people everyday, try working on a RR crossing, you learn to ignore everyone unless they get out of their vehicles then I just leave and leave the crossing down.

    Just like working on the railroad,always get the your number 1 at crossings. I don’t wanna impede public and sure in the hell don’t wanna be on that train at same time.

    As long as there's water your good to go, absence of water = stuck. Chet you need like 4 semis worth of water and a fire hose before you leave the field.

    Love how people who live in a farming community get pissed by having to wait a couple minutes for farmers. I drive a semi in the L.A. area, I get the bird often, mostly from Prius drivers.

    Steering wheel and center block is while stop that from beeping and possibly killing the combine when you leave the seat. People need to understand that farmers don’t like to block the road but when we do it ain’t what we want to do but when we do it is a dire necessity. Plus playing in the mud is so much more dangerous than dry ground cause we can flip the tractor or whatever other equipment that we are in. I have seen it personally as a farming kid.
