I think I'll resume this mission after work tomorrow... When its light outside... Dark room, only ones up are me and the dog, gaming headphones and that message coming from the right side of my Sennheisers...😂
It's not just scary because of all the ghosts and darkness, but also the depressing story behind it. The Iris we meet here is basically a materialization of REAL Iris's sorrow, he broken heart, her completely destroyed happiness. The horror here is primarly the emotion of the people involved. Polish people espescially find emotional torment the greatest horror in life. That's why CD Projekt Red should have sticked to stories like this. Cyberpunk 2077 turns out to have been a bit out of their leauge
Hmm, Blood&Wine is so much bigger expansion, but Hearts Of Stone holds special place in my heart. It was masterpiece from begining to the end..

Notice how often Geralt talks to animals when they show up and act strange? It's kinda cool how a monster hunter like Geralt of Rivia, seems to like animals
Animals don't talk much like humans. That's what Geralt says when he escorted the Pellar's goat.

the whole hearts of stone main quest is one of the best quests i have ever played in a game (not just in w3 but in any video game) and this part was particularly my favorite

John Angel Actually I’ve never finished the game because my brother lost my PS4. But before I watched the Heart of Stone DLC, it was my least favorite DLC in the two DLCs in Witcher 3. But later on, after I watched the fight between Geralt and Olgierd + Geralt and Grave Digger, it became one of the most memorable DLC and story I’ve ever known in a video game
@@bluesyrupgc4224 Hearts of Stone is much better than Blood and Wine: Toussaint is definitely really nice as a setting, but story-wise and especially character-wise, Hearts of Stone is the best in the whole game plus the DLCs
To anyone who's struggling with the Wraith fight, especially on Death March:
Don't bother using melee to attack the paintings. The time it takes to get in range to hit them is more than enough for her to heal 2000-4000 health, which is A LOT relative to how much damage your sword does to her. If you have the Aard Sweep ability, use it when the glowing painting is within its radius. You don't even have to aim. If you don't have Aard Sweep, manually aim your crossbow when she screams for healing. You should quickly identify which painting is healing her, then shoot it from a distance.
I had a really tough time for this fight on death march. If anyone else is, I'd also like to add that bombs, for me, were the most effective way to deal with the paintings. Just make sure you have Quen on, so if she hits you she can't stagger you and heal, and just toss any bomb that does fire damage at the painting. Boom.

@Sándor Tóth Didn't really struggle with her (as in I never really die fighting her) along with the Caretaker but shit it nearly took me 2 hours (probably more) to finish this whole quest
When I fought the caretaker I thought "Is this what Dark Souls feels like?" Because it sure as Hell seemed like it...
About as hard as a dark souls sub boss I would say

Well, it depends. The orphan, though scary, was a bit not scary because there's like a breather in between quests.

A class horror - that's what Witcher stories must have apart from medieval fantasies. Sometimes the job of Witcher loses track fighting otherworldly elves.
favourite quest out of this expansion! in fact, out of any game ever! a combination of bloodborne, dark souls and Tim Burton's Caroline. and you get to enter a haunting yet beautiful painting later on. that's epic!

Kinda prefer torch because it illuminates better, but it can be problematic walking in those flammable spores. Real Witchers use Cat tho

This is top notch writing. Full of mystery and sadness. The other comments are quite accurate- it's a lot like a good silent hill game.
Is it me or is the Caretaker something straight out of Silent Hill?

Well, I don't know how you look, but I can tell you that this thing looks very much the same like a figure in Silent Hill :-)
I thought of both Bloodborne and Silent HIll at different points in this quest. One thing I love about The Witcher 3 is there are so many different styles and genres represented in different questlines. Even in just Hearts of Stone, you get a comedy social party atmosphere, a heist mission, and an emotionally moving survival horror.

The Caretaker was probably the most difficult boss in the game. The second one would be Caranthir, then maybe Imlerith and then Eredin.
Several phases, packs a huge punch, AOE attacks, can regenerate, etc. There was no way to wear him down from a distance and every hit he landed on you was basically another you had to land just in order to even the score. That thing could restore his entire health bar in a few seconds if you weren't paying attention.

+Dre Hort (drepwnsyu) am I the only one, that found the frog hardest, them Imlerith.
I use the absolute camera mod tho, so the camera is closer to the action and you can't see as much behind you.
This makes fights more badass, but harder.
When Imlerith kept teleporting behind me i cudnt see him 😂
soon as i switched to normal camera i destroyed him.
but Yeah, he and the frog were hardest for me.
Try the toad prince, he's 3 million times worse

+NEMESIS1999 if you take the rose - she and the whole painted world disappears, she no longer exists. If you let her have it she continues existing (in a way) inside that piece of the picture you give to Olgierd, and arguably through it he could somehow visit her...

I killed the motherfucking Caretaker easily but the Wraith... I just cant kill the wraith its hard as fuck she just keeps healing herself over and over again i dont deal enough damage...
+Sonka Richter use igni to the picture while ghost is out. if you do so, ghost does not disappear.

Felt like i was in Loving Vincent when I entered that painting world. I was so immersed in Iris' world, I didn't know one simple quest could turn into this whole dark, troubling past to be revealed.
I just finished the main story and continue to HoS, I thought the Baron is the saddest and darkest story in Witcher 3. Guess I was wrong. This was scary and very upsetting.
Despite everything, I think they did a great job in building the world so immense, with detailed story that sometimes cross path with one another. For this I had to applaud the creator. A very well written game.

In a quest where you're in the Auction house in Oxenfurt, trying to get the Borsodi's house,
you could place a bid on a painting, which perhaps the work of Iris von Everec. It resembles the painting "Starry Night" by Vincent van Gogh.

Scenes from a marriage and The Last Wish might be the greatest quests I’ve ever played in a game
The first moment of this story is scared to me, but in the second and third later, it was touched my heart because Iris's backstory and her fate.
Her soul and bone was laying down on the bed for years just waiting for Geralt to come and reach her story to help her rest in peace... Such a sad story.
I always chose to free her and help Olgierd, I myself think this is a best choice and best ending for the DLC.
Brotip: archgriffin decoction is the only way to do this on Death March NG+. Can't do damage fast enough otherwise.
I also needed about 7 other active potions, the toppest spectre oil, and a long enough battle to cost me over 50% sword durability, but that might just be me.

When I played this mission and the lights went out then saw that figure flying at me in the distance I got scared as fuck.
And in this episode, we see geralt fight a mixture of yorick from LoL and that Ogre from Pan's Labyrinth

I was level 68 and struggling with this bitch on DM for ages until I did the following and fucking wrecked her in a few minutes:
1. Used potion of clearance to respec my build
2. Used 3 out of my 4 mutagen slots for RED mutagens and paired them with combat skills to increase my attack, used the last mutagen slot for a GREEN mutagen.
3. Spent my ability points on mainly combat and alchemy don't waste on CROSSBOW SKILLS! and in the alchemy tree make sure to MAX OUT the 'SYNERGY' skill - this boosts all mutagens in your skill tree - make sure to definitely have that ability equipped as your attack power will jump up.
4 Switched to light armour and equipped the 'Cat School Technique ability' - this boosts your attack by 5% for every piece of light armour you are wearing.
5. I wore the Superior legendary feline armour - attack power by 27%, Enhanced legendary feline boots - attack power +12%, legendary feline gauntlets - attack power +11.
5. Before the fight I drank superior the superior Tawny Owl potion - use it at night for INFINITE STAMINA
6. Drank Reliever’s Decoction - Increases damage against wraiths and decreased the damage you take.
7. Used superior spector oil which gives your 50% more attack power
8. Used the PRESERVATION runesmith skill on my sword - so when you use grindstones the attack/defense bonus NEVER EXPIRES.
If you have done everything correctly you should now have a DPS of around 4000 or more.
IMPORTANT TIPS WHEN FIGHTING HER - Stay in the middle of the room close to the four paintings so you can roll quickly and use IGNI to destroy to paintings when she tries to recover , YARDEN doesn't work on her and magic trap takes alternate takes too long to set up so don't bother using it. Also check your weapon durability before the fight.
NOW GET BACK IN THERE AND DROP THAT BITCH!
Or you can use Aard Sweep.
Cool, I don't really use Aard sweep so that's good to know.

How do you make geralt do the sparks outta the hand thing when I do it it's just a wave of fire and when I cast signs it takes a few minutes to recharge when in combat but when you do it

Just bought hos and wasn’t looking forward to the caretaker as i read it was difficult. But i killed him first try on death march, he’s actually quite easy provided you deal good damage and kill the wraiths he spawns immediately

Is it me or is there a MASSIVE plot hole in this expansion. Why didn't Olgierd go and visit her? She wants to see him and he wants to see her. I was so expecting him to be like "hey lemme go visit her in the shadow realm" after we freed him from el diablo

if anyone still needs to know how to beat her- USE IGNI so she doesn't disappear.
Destroy the portrait and use enhanced Spector or cursed oil. Quite easy to kill her tho.

So basically, Dog and Hound seem to be more powerful then O'Dimm, because they give you a clue how you can solve his riddle later in the expansion, so they can predict the future.
