The thing that turns the light on is a generator, and this is the thing that you didn't show us how to make. I just want to know what's inside it and that would be enough.
You don't need the wire as long as it's a wheel that can move the rubberband and the little dc motor that he or she uses and connect a little tiny led (they're really cheap on Amazon) it'll work. The spinning of the little motor is all that causes electricity. I reccomend Jeremy field for thorough explanations. Or electricboom he's got funny but good explanations.
