Oh, Jes… This is the best video. I just planted 10 Little lime hydrangeas. I needed this. Thank you for saving me from several years of improperly pruning! I’m very thankful I found your channel.
Hey baby girl....you are so CREATIVE....I am so glad I found your channel....I am a 68 year old black woman and I dont think I was as creative as you are. Here i am now this old and trying to garden .... but I am learning at from all you gardeners. Thats why I say hey baby girl...you are like my granddaughter...thats what I call her. I can't do videos I can't work a computer my kids says I'm to old and I dont need to be uploading videos. But I am going to fool them and start my channel. You have taught me a lot and I really thank you. I always end with be bless 🙏 because I do pray for you.
WOW! Thank you so much for this info about pruning Little Lime hydrangeas! I’m DEFINITELY trimming mine this way this spring! I love it! I literally shake the blooms on my little limes every time it rains and they STILL droop! Mine are 2 years old.I love the way your hydrangeas look! I can’t wait to try this on mine! Thank you Jess you are awesome!🌺🌸
Thank you so much for sharing about how you prune your little limes! I have 13 and I will be using your method. I adore the smaller blooms. I’ve not seen anyone else prune this way. Lovely front landscaping!
So excited when I checked my phone & saw your video was up. I always watch you first because I know it’s going to make the rest of the day better. What a vision you had & to b able to carry it out is wonderful. Your landscaping & gardens are so perfect & beautiful. You are truly a talented , creative & hard working young lady. Thanks for the before & after. Everything is beautiful. 😊🇺🇸🐿
You have so many God given gifts! Your landscape is gorgeous. You made complete sense! I have been pruning mine like you were too. I was getting huge blooms but no matter how strong the stems a rain would weigh them down horribly. I'm def going to do it your way this coming year and hope for the same results you are having
Thank you for this video. Love the taller begonias in the bed and I like the box wood cut in circles rather than streamlined. jes, you are so sweet and you get so much done. I am 82 and I want to do all that too but finding time wears us all out. Still put down mulch and five new plants plus three pots of mostly annuals on my patio. Hugs.
I love boxwood globes too! I only pray that im still in my garden mulching and planting at 82! God bless you! Thanks for sharing, and have fun out there!
Your energy is so positive 👍 ... your movies is never long enough because I enjoy them thoroughly.... thank you for taking the time out the video and share your wonderful garden with us..... I appreciate you
Great tip of little lime panicle hydrangea pruning. I have a limelight that I am training into a tree and deal with summer flopping after heavy ran. Next year I will follow your strategy Jes. Thanks again.
Hello from Oklahoma City, OK. Love and enjoy all your inspiring videos. Looking forward to new ones everyday. Your music is unique and so soothing. Please keep it up. Thanks.
This video was my first introduction to your channel. You have an amazing garden. I enjoyed your explanation and thought process of how you decided to landscape your garden. Of all the plants in your garden, I especially liked the pops of red. So many other channels I watch have muted, pastel tones. By the way, after I watched this video, I saw your Mackinac Island tour. You have an amazing voice.
Thank you very much Grace. Ya I just try to stay true to myself and do what I like in my own garden. I’m not too swayed by others. I figure if I’m gonna spend money and plant annuals then I want it to be worth it and be bright all season! And not have to fertilize it or maintain it. Everyone has their own favorites!! Thanks for the encouragements!
Maybe this is a little over the top, but you could paint those septic tank covers the same color as your grass and they would not be noticeable at all. (Except in the winter if your grass turns brown.) Thanks for the great tour!
I enjoyed listening to you talk about your planning process for your landscape. You have done a great job, and it’s perfect for your house. The landscapers that builders hire do not always do a good job of choosing plants or planting the plants. I had chipmunks in my Michigan gardens. I used to chirp back at them, and they would fuss at me Lol. I would be very interested in seeing you prune up your hydrangeas next spring. I like your idea way better. I trimmed like the experts said and still had floppy hydrangeas. I used to go to Horrock’s Farm Market in Battle Creek. I loved that place.
Ya sometimes you just have to figure things out on your own and find out what works best for your plants in your space! I’ll do another pruning video next spring for sure. Those dang chipmunks are outta control! chirpin all day long LOL
Jes, you are so gifted. Your garden is beautiful. I loved seeing the before pictures. They are absolutely an encouragement. Thank you for the tips on how you prune your hydrangeas. I'm going to give that a try. And thank you for sharing. Your videos are delightful and so are you.
Thanks for showing us how you pruned your Hydrangeas. I needed to see this so I know how to prune mine this year. I'm so excited to have 4 new Hydrangeas 2 moon struck which I love will I love them all if I could have one of each that's out there still wouldn't be enough for me lol😂that's how much I love them trying to remember the other 2 I bought last year I know they don't get big shoot can't remember their names sorry. ❤️ I totally love your gardens they are so beautiful 😍 God's blessings to you sweet young lady keep those videos coming I love them and look forward always to the next one. ❤️ Have a blessed day my friend ❤️
Loved the instruction on the pruning of your little lime hydrangeas! I actually agree with your rationality on keeping the blooms smaller and more floriferous. You taught me! Thank you!. I have also struggled with how to lay out the beds in the front and now have more ideas! Yes!
amazing. you have inspired me soo much this year. i just started watching you not to long ago and you have taught me so much. you taught me that it is ok if something does not work and what does work. i just absolutely love you and thank you so much for teaching me soooo much.
I would hire you as my landscaper anytime! Your creative idea truly paid off. A professional couldn’t have done it better. I also revamped my entire landscape myself in 2020. It’s super rewarding Looking back. Thanks for sharing your journey!
Jes, thanks for the tour it's gorgeous. Love hearing why you pick things it's really helpful and helps me to think outside the box too. Loved seeing the before pics WOW how it has grown, great job. Have a blessed day!! 😊
Hi Jes! Thank you for the video. You have a great vision for your space. I really enjoyed the tour. It was great coming home from work to see you posted a new video, it's the first thing I check when I get home! Your home and gardens are beautiful!!! Thank you again!
I just love all the colors you did. 💕 You were saying that you only get one time bloom out of salvia but really if you cut them back and you will get more blooms after you cut them. I have cut mine 3 times I got flowers all 3 times.🥰
Thanks so much for sharing some of your story! You are not too old. Let me know if you start some movies and ill watch! Thanks for watching and thanks for the encouragement.
Call to action to all who watch this video. Don’t forget to like this video to show our support of our sweet and humble gardener. She makes us smile. Let’s see if we can return the favor!
Thank you Jes for the pruning tip for the little lime hydrangeas. I like the smaller blooms like you. I just planted two baby hydrangeas plant and will give your tips a try once they start to bloom. Thanks again for sharing your ideas, experiences, and tips with us.
In a world filled with the constant noise of negativity, you are a breath of fresh air! I have been watching you since your first video and look forward to each and every post! Thank you for bringing such sweetness, calmness, talent and creativity to your channel! It is a pleasure to watch.
Thank you for posting this video. This is the first of yours I have seen- what caught my attention was ‘how I prune my little limes’. I am struggling with the same issue you had of flopping and in the past few days I have been thinking that the Google answers in how to prune them (and what I did) was actually not working for me either. Thank you for illuminating another way- and a way my gut was telling me made more sense. I am going to go that route next time I prune them. Congratulations on a beautiful landscape. Can’t wait to see more of your videos!
Great video...perfectly done! Love the before and after pic., I need to start! Your a blessing Jes!. Love when you also put some of your music to your videos! Wonderful gift He has given you!
I have the same issue with my Little Lyme falling over. I would love to actually see you prune the way you do because I hate when they fall over. I, too, prune them about half way down, but will seriously try to prune them this way. Please think about a video in the spring. We don’t have chipmunks, but we have rabbits, deer and moles. Spray works sometimes, but I have discovered that rabbits will ear anything, sprayed or not. Liquid Fence. I also, love the Globe Blue Spruce. Great spot for it.
It is very confusing!!! So much information out there. Id say just try out a few different ways and see what works for you! Ill try to make one next spring to help out some more and show what i do :)
I am glad you have one cherry tree. You know when a lot of trees of the same type bloom the neighborhood is so beautiful. Not cookie cutter cute, but like it wasn’t a mistake. Our neighborhood has Bradford pear trees. I have a Florida Home tree. Now I planted a Moon Glow pear. I get huge amounts of fruit.
Your landscape is beautiful! You have done a great job choosing plants. I like the crooked tree, it has character. I garden in Georgia now, but came from New England which had the same weather as you have in Michigan. It's a challenge here to keep everything alive with temps in triple digits for most of the summer. I liked the description of trimming hydrangeas, that's one thing that grows well here.
Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks for your beautiful landscape. I have a similar philosophy and like to get the biggest bang out of plants. I've been concentrating on shrubs, foliage and grasses.
I feel the same about perennials that only flowers 3 weeks out of the year. I have been trying to use more flowering bushes or interesting foliage plants like purple sand cherry. Love the transformation. Keep up the good work.
Such a great demonstration of what your front garden looks like Its beautiful and I never thought of using different textures of hard scape It blended in just perfect. I didn't know Home Depot had a closeout of stuff like that on a cart area. Im just 2 miles from a Home Depot and I will keep an eye out for that.
I was also thinking that, but maybe spray painting them might be cheaper and could match the grass a little better. Pretty sure I’ve seen green grass paint color before!
I’m on my way out to work on my tree line. Will take pics as you suggest and I’m planting 2 Tuf Stuff hydrangea that I bought last week for 60%off. 😀. Thank you for your encouragement and guidance, Jes.
@@jesthesinginggardener Yes, I am blessed to have found them (60% off). Eeeee! I thought of an idea for you and your sister. How about candles with flowers along the outer wall? Does that make sense?
Awe yes they are really cool huh! if it makes you feel better, Id love to have one of those camellias you can grow down there in NC, those are beautiful too.
Hey, Jes! I’m Megan and I just found your channel the other day. I’m now subscribed! I’m in southeast AL and am in a new home and totally redoing the landscape! I love how much you love huechera I love it too and also love what you did in your front landscape. I’ve seen that same pic you used on Pinterest it’s gorgeous! You do a great job explaining and I love that you also do it yourself, I do too. Glad I found you! I too have a channel, My Southern Garden, to doc my garden projects. So fun!
Your front landscape is beautifully edited! I agree the front of the house should be a bit formal and ourGauley gardens are the surprise secret gardens for ourselves friends and family!! Great video and space! I’m trimming my little Limes ,which are still young, as you ! More blooms less droop! Thanks Jes!
Oh my gosh. I just went over to Home Depot and got 2 bags of Miracle grow potting soil and 1 bag of top soil from slightly broken bags. They were perfectly fine actually. Thanks so much for the good tip 😀
I think you did a fantastic job landscaping around your house❣️ Now I understand what your design goals are. I also loved your tip on pruning your little lime hydrangeas! It will come in handy for me next spring❣️Thank you Jes, love your videos, have a wonderful day🌻
I love your garden. I love the trees . Can you tell the names of them. Probably not available in Australia but worth a try . Love how much colour you have with little bloom 💛
The trees in my front are called Dappled Willow, Globe Blue Spruce , and Shag White Pine. The ones in my yard are called River Birch and Autumn Blaze maple
Thanks, Jes! This was so helpful! I’ve been trying to redo my front landscaping this past week. I let all the weeds grow in.🤦🏾♀ I started out adding more boxwoods, but then added more stuff. I’m feeling like I’m making a mistake trying to add flowering shrubs up there. I may need to rethink and edit.
You can do it! I think theres a place for flowering perennials for sure, but if you are wanting an area to look clean and tidy all season long, I have learned to stay away from them. And its hard cuz there are so many pretty ones. But for me Its not worth it to use that space and time for something that gives me a couple weeks worth of shine to then later look scruffy. Everyone is different though and I hope you come up with something that YOU love!!!
Love your movies and have gathered some good tips of what do tackle in my garden! off topic but love your house and was wondering who the builder was so I could take a look at where they build- I'm in Ohio so thought maybe they were in the Midwest
@@jesthesinginggardener Thanks for getting back to me Love what you are doing with your channel! I have already incorporated some of your ideas into my space and scooped up some of those Meijer bargains too Have a great day!
Professional rodent control can help you control your chipmunk population. My grandmother was a farming wife. She would buy sunflower seeds, fill a 5 gallon bucket about half full of water, pour in a few seeds, and set the bucket in chipmunk land. Worked best next to a wall or a bench or whatever which was a few inches taller than bucket. Very quickly she controlled her rodent population.
You're right. I follow many gardeners in UK who marvel at how Americans prune hydrangeas down so low leaving the branches green and not able to hold up the flowers. I'm American living in the UK and not sure when it became standard for American gardeners to do this. It seems like it's been around forever. But since moving to the UK, I've learned differently. Giant blooms doesn't make for the best formed shrub.
This is so encouraging because I just had to do something different and was listening to all the movies out there on pruning and it wasn’t working for me. Floppity flop galore! And so I just did the opposite and I love it! Thanks for telling me this. Glad I’m not the only one. The UK is on point :)
Wow this is exactly the video I needed. I loved your details about how you prune the hydrangeas. I’m just beginning to plant some and didn’t know how to prune them. I look forward to seeing your future videos how to prune again. I plan to review this one many times (I’m a slow learner). I’m saving this video for future reference. Love your thinking about wanting some color in the winter. I also learned from you what plants or trees would be good. I hope your husband appreciates your design work and the time this takes to put everything together. You are so much better than the so called professionals who are not as creative as you are. Thank you so much for your ideas and time in putting this video together.
Thanks for the encouragement Helen, I appreciate it. I usually don't really go along with every thing people tell me, I try to go mostly by my own experience because everyone's yards and circumstances are so different. Sometimes I question myself on things but if it works for me in my garden then I stick with it. If not, I try something else! Good luck!!!
I'm excited because this coming summer I will head to Holland and I'm gonna hopefully find lots of clearance . I will be working in a nursery with a farmer that sales flower baskets in the spring and summer .Have u heard of the Bowermans in Holland??
Your entry gardens are so beautiful; great job😁. Wonderful explanation of pruning hydrangeas; I will be doing that with mine. How often do you fertilize hydrangeas?

I just love your front entrance flower beds, the colors and textures look amazing.

I wish I could have a globe blue spruce but it’s too hot where I live. Yours is beautiful!
So fun!
Thank you so much!! That’s so cool you seen that picture too!
Your front landscape is beautifully edited! I agree the front of the house should be a bit formal and ourGauley gardens are the surprise secret gardens for ourselves friends and family!!
Great video and space! I’m trimming my little Limes ,which are still young, as you ! More blooms less droop! Thanks Jes!
Thanks Teresa!! 🥰
I also live in Michigan. I’ve added a lot of coleus to my front landscaping for the same reason.
"creepy person" chipmunk, lol . He's cheering you on Jes :)
Oh my gosh. I just went over to Home Depot and got 2 bags of Miracle grow potting soil and 1 bag of top soil from slightly broken bags. They were perfectly fine actually. Thanks so much for the good tip 😀
Oh good you found some!! That’s so exciting. I’m so happy for you!
@@jesthesinginggardener thankyou
Your Hardy board, stone and trim are very close to mine!!!

Thanks, They are called Boverhof Builders. I think they only stay in MI

Thanks for getting back to me
Love what you are doing with your channel! I have already incorporated some of your ideas into my space and scooped up some of those Meijer bargains too
Have a great day!
It looks like a professional did it.jeff
Thanks for the tips on Little lime hydrangeas! I just planted one this year and a regular Limelight, should you prune the first year you plant?
I’ve never heard of it but there are a ton of greenhouses over here on the west side! It’s hard to keep up. I hope you have fun!!
Your entry gardens are so beautiful; great job😁. Wonderful explanation of pruning hydrangeas; I will be doing that with mine. How often do you fertilize hydrangeas?
Thanks! I don't fertilize them. I just let them do their thing
