That's Monsterverse Godzilla. The original was never napping. He was originally just one of a small group of dinosaurs that were surviving on small uncharted islands in the Pacific, hunted for food in the oceans and got mutated by the castle bravo test.
Technically Godzilla's regenerative powers were a plot point as far back as Godzilla vs Biollante. Godzilla 2000 was just the first time the ability was given an official name..
There was some time in the 90s when some writer decided the Hulk had a similar regenerative ability to explain why he could take so much damage. (Because that is so much more plausible than superhero-tough skin.)

I actually just recently saw Minus One in theaters, that was my first Japanese Godzilla film in theaters. It was incredible, I thought Godzilla 2000 was a fun film, not on par with the Heisei series but still a great palate cleanser after the 1998 film. Orga may have only appeared in one film, but thanks to that we have the hilarious 4th wall breaking version from Monster Island Buddies. I didn't know that Kenpachio Satsuma had passed away recently. Thanks for including the dedication to him.
Saw this movie 3 times in the theater when it came out. Once with my dad, once with my brother and a friend, and then a 3rd time with another friend. It's hard for me to say bad stuff about this movie. It has a lot of sentimental memories to me.
I remember watching this in theaters when I was almost in 8th grade and loving every minute of it! It was the perfect film to end the summer with, great memories!
This Godzilla is underrated. This version of Godzilla is great & fun. His design is great!!! The plot, enemy, & cast were all great!!! My favorite part in the movie is when he gets back up from getting knocked down by the buildings by the UFO then starts heating up & releasing his atomic breath on both the UFO & Orga!!! 🔥
This movie has a special place in my heart. I saw this movie in the theater when I was ten with my dad. My summer vacation was ending and my dad was like, "hey, how about we go see that new Godzilla movie?" We saw it and we had a blast (an atomic blast if you will).
Surprisingly, I prefer the American Dub since it actually improves the pacing and includes extra sound effects such as the outside of the restaurant at the beginning to make it feel more alive.

And it had some really heart felt moments, and the thing is it was all in Japanese but it did have subtitles which were easy to read at my pace and was just a great film to watch a truly great movie for the big G’s 70th anniversary despite that being next year
The 1991 incarnation of Godzilla hands down is my favorite. I said it before, hearing his footsteps as he walks basically shows how massive and powerful he can be!!!
The main Millennium suit is indeed one of my favorites. Mean, green (well, grey-green), and rather more like a living animal than the Heisei suit. The pure grey zombiG from GMK has its moments but mostly around the head/puppet; it's surprisingly baggy otherwise. The Final Wars suit is a new classic for good reason, and also one of my favorite designs.
Godzilla 2000 is my personal favorite godzilla film as its the very first toho godzilla film I saw in theaters when it came out when I was little and had such fond memories watching it over and over again when I got it on vhs.
The CGI definitely didn't age the best, I'm much more partial to the 2000 Godzilla design than most with it's more draconic look! Even if orga only shows up for the climax I think he has a lot of build up and probably the coolest original monster to come from the millenium era even if there's not much competition thefe.
Today is my Birthday and usually I'll spend it with family and watching my Favorite movies(half of which is Godzilla or Giant Monster Movie's). THIS, Brandon, is the Perfect Birthday gift for someone like me....Thank you for putting out all your videos(the one's besides these of course) and Merry Christmas...
In fairness the Godzilla Prediction Network is just two people: the main guy and that little kid who is his daughter. He's a disgraced scientist trying to track and study Godzilla for science and coexistence and the human bad guy is his former colleague/boss who seeks to destroy Godzilla thinking coexistence is impossible.
Godzilla 2000 brought some long needed comedy back and made it fun again. The Hesei serious was very serious in tone and style. So it was refreshing in a lot of ways. Yeah it had its problems, but i survived everything of the Shows series. So that wasn’t a Problem.
I agree with your takes on Godzilla’s suit here. It’s not a bad suit by any means, just not my favorite. I think the best suit was the one in GMK with the soulless eyes.
Saw Godzilla Minus One in the theaters today. I loved it and in my opinion, it is the best TOHO production. I even liked it more than the original. The human story in this one brought an actual tear to my eye. It was only available with subtitles. If they ever dub it, I hope the voice-over actors take it seriously and do it justice. The human story in this one really hit hard. Most of the human stories in past TOHO productions were just there, but never really interesting and sometimes made no sense. Even if Godzilla was not in this one, I think the human story would have been good on its own. - Possible Spoilers: - The CGI was excellent in this production. Godzilla actually looked alive and his eyes were well done. It looked like Godzilla could actually focus on individual humans. They also sized Godzilla back down closer to his original size. This allows better interaction between Godzilla and the humans. There are no other Kaijus for Godzilla to fight. This is truly back to the roots of the original Godzilla. He is no friend or protector of humanity. I do not recall Shin Godzilla too well only having seen it once. But I think the CGI in this was much better. I also liked how you could actually see Godzilla stomp on humans fleeing or using his tail or smashing buildings into people. None of the old stock footage of people running away with a Godzilla is obviously layered in the background. Godzilla Minus One is much cleaner. - There are some minor nitpicks and mostly just comes down to aesthetics. I am a bit torn on Godzilla's design in this one. On the one hand I love the CGI and how alive and real Godzilla looks in a TOHO production. The proportions seem a bit off to me, kind of reminds me of Charizard with the wider bottom portion (legs and thigh) and a smaller upper body. Not that Godzilla was not always a little thicker in the lower part of his body, but this design seems a bit more pronounced. In one scene when Godzilla was returning to the water, his clawed feet looked too big for the rest of him. That may have just been my perception though. - | do like how they did his nuclear breath(blast) in this one, it is different than his normal breath and seemed to cause a tactical nuclear explosion. I am a bit torn on how his spines pop out as he charges his breath and then pop back in when he releases it. I think I like the premise, but thought it looked and sounded a little weird how they did it. These are all very MINOR nitpicks. They did not detract from this film at all. The CGI is still a step behind the Hollywood versions, but not by much and the human story in Godzilla Minus One is the BEST human story in ANY Godzilla film, including the Hollywood monsterverse. I really hope one day we get a reaction from Brandon on this one. No Kennys, no silly side plots that have nothing to do with Godzilla. The human story is very much entwined with the Godzilla story and the actors in this were impeccable. I know this is a long comment on a TH-cam video. But I just came home from watching Godzilla Minus One and I just had to share. This is the only Godzilla review channel I have participated in. I am curious about other's thoughts who have seen it. Did you like the design of Godzilla? Did you feel the same about the Human story? Maybe you disagree with everything I said and think this is the worst production. I look forward to those who want to share. Just be kind and remember part of the fun of movies is how all of us may react differently to them.
I do get what you’re saying when you said that this Godzilla design feels very late 90’s to the max but personally this is my favorite design for Godzilla. It gives off a very scary and intimidating look while also feeling very edgy and cool, and I absolutely adore the orange atomic breath. I can totally understand why it’s not your favorite design, but for me this design is GODZILLA.

a decent entry in the series with one of my more favoured designs. Miregoji is just below Heisei, but the later Kiryugoji suit just refines so much of the bleh in its design
2:50 I think it helps that the current US and Japanese takes on Godzilla are going in different directions. Toho seems to want to focus on more serious and gritty Gojira films, while the Monsterverse series is going straight for the cheesy 70s kaiju wrestling vibe. So they can co-exist without competing with each other too much, since they play to different types of fans. Also 14:00 are you kidding? That's CLEARLY the ship from "Flight of the Navigator." I saw Godzilla 2000 in the theater on it's opening weekend and thought that it was a lot of fun. At the end of the movie, the audience clapped and cheered.

I’ll never understand why companies like Toho don’t realize it’s guys like you that keep their product alive God bless man PS your channel so freaking awesome
I think it’s a Japanese cultural thing of not being able to discern ‘free promotion through fandom’s repurpose of IP’ from general ‘bootlegging’. Nintendo has been the same way for decades with anyone using footage of any of their games for any purpose whatsoever. I think only recently have they been more lenient with TH-camrs posting gameplay.
I was under the impression that the Godzilla Prediction Network was just a bunch of civilians, not part of the government. Kind of a cross between stormchasers and Bigfoot investigators.
Orga is an unlockable kaiju in one of the Godzilla games for the PS2. Can't remember which one right off. His stage was on another planet, if memory serves me right
a lot of the footage they cut was from the early army tanks and troops massing. it was like almost 10 mins long. They also removed the first time he used his atomic breath after the F-15's make their strike. Used the first fight against the alien as the first use of his breath.
Honestly had no clue u Kenpachiro Satsuma passed till I saw the ending. RIP to my childhood godzilla. Underrated movie also. Can’t wait to see u cover more of the millennium movies next year.

All right! Here we go! More Godzilla!!!
“Kaiju Chasers” sounds like a dope show idea I would definitely invest in!
Surprisingly, I prefer the American Dub since it actually improves the pacing and includes extra sound effects such as the outside of the restaurant at the beginning to make it feel more alive.
True but the English dub bogs down the performances of the actors with the cringe cheesy English voices
Also Orga's roar.
@@Kaiju-bm4ts Except Toho LIKED the dub.
@@dracodracarys2339 Yeah, but honestly, Orga's roar in the dub was more eerie and unsettling whereas his roar in the Japanese dub was just recycled Cretaceous Ghidorah roars.
@@Godzillakingofkaiju1 okay and? Toho liking doesn't mean it sounds good to actual English speakers

Finally, someone else wants to see that too
Holy shit goji73
The most Underrated Godzilla movie in the millennial era.
I have a theory that's Godzilla Vs megaguirus is actually a prequel to Godzilla 2000
@@genesismultiverse4896how so?
It is not every movie was its own continuity except godzilla x mechagodzilla and tokyo sos@genesismultiverse4896
@@Kornzz555666 funny the millennium arrow didn’t really feel like they were sequels to each other the only two that did felt like it was the ones you just mentioned
@@Kornzz555666 but when you think about it
It can somewhat work of course it's not but you can somewhat connect those in that way
I actually saw Godzilla minus one recently and I have to say the movie was great Godzilla looked frightening and awesome not to mention that the tone did feel similar to how many have described the original movie. And it had some really heart felt moments, and the thing is it was all in Japanese but it did have subtitles which were easy to read at my pace and was just a great film to watch a truly great movie for the big G’s 70th anniversary despite that being next year
GMO (😂) was amazing! I did get that eldritch dread/horror feel, which i did have when I watched Godzilla Singular Point as well!
24:05 😂. I knew That Ninja was still around :D
When this came out I was so excited! It was my first TOHO Godzilla in the theater since 1974!
Thank you so much Brandon! This is one of my favorite Godzilla movies! I have been waiting for this for a long time. :)
This one of the few Godzilla movies where i find the human story just as interesting as the monster action.
Happy birthday!
@@GreaterGrievobeast55 thank you! Nice Image btw...
This is the best Christmas present Brandon. Thank you.
(Godzilla Minus One is wonderful!)
❤ Great review, Brandon!
You have given me joy in bleak times. I cannot thank you enough for this.
When will Godzilla vs Megarius and GMK review gonna come out
Such a fun return of the king of the monsters... One of many 😂😂
This whole episode was just Brandon’s jokes becoming real
And just to think everybody was worried about Y2K😂
Ive been binging your Godzilla videos in movie order, and you release this just 6 hours ago 😊 a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one!
Godzilla 2000 is Awesome!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
The alien ship looks a lot like the ship from Disney's FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR.
CGI Orga looked like the bad guy from Sonic Adventures on Dreamcast
Godzilla 2000 brought some long needed comedy back and made it fun again. The Hesei serious was very serious in tone and style. So it was refreshing in a lot of ways. Yeah it had its problems, but i survived everything of the Shows series. So that wasn’t a Problem.
I agree with your takes on Godzilla’s suit here. It’s not a bad suit by any means, just not my favorite.
I think the best suit was the one in GMK with the soulless eyes.
Saw this one in theaters in 2000. Alot of fun with this one
Rest in Peace Kenpanchiro Satsuma
Saw Godzilla Minus One in the theaters today. I loved it and in my opinion, it is the best TOHO production. I even liked it more than the original. The human story in this one brought an actual tear to my eye. It was only available with subtitles. If they ever dub it, I hope the voice-over actors take it seriously and do it justice. The human story in this one really hit hard. Most of the human stories in past TOHO productions were just there, but never really interesting and sometimes made no sense. Even if Godzilla was not in this one, I think the human story would have been good on its own.

Possible Spoilers:

The CGI was excellent in this production.

There are some minor nitpicks and mostly just comes down to aesthetics. That may have just been my perception though.

| do like how they did his nuclear breath(blast) in this one, it is different than his normal breath and seemed to cause a tactical nuclear explosion.
THIS was the Godzilla film that pulled me in! My first exposure to the kaijussy and it will always remain dear to my heart.
Why did you say kaijussy unironically
@@ScoutConvoy okay…hear me out…
@@ScoutConvoy my phone autocorrected Kaiju to that…and the only reason it knows kaijussy which is because I was recently pointing out to a friend that Space Godzilla looks like he has a vagina. And that’s what I called.
Now, I fully understand how suspicious that works. But that’s the fact. I nearly died of laughter attack when I reread this comment.
Thanks for the laughs. Another great year.
Godzilla 2000, the “let’s wash the bad taste of 1998 out of our mouths” movie lol also, that trailer is amazing, more Godzilla needs heavy metal music
Not just heavy metal; Rob Zombie.
I have to wonder how they managed to pull that off.
Always great to see a new Godzilla review. I have to ask tho - was that the Ninja Style Dancer?
a decent entry in the series with one of my more favoured designs. Miregoji is just below Heisei, but the later Kiryugoji suit just refines so much of the bleh in its design
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year mate
2:50 I think it helps that the current US and Japanese takes on Godzilla are going in different directions. Toho seems to want to focus on more serious and gritty Gojira films, while the Monsterverse series is going straight for the cheesy 70s kaiju wrestling vibe. So they can co-exist without competing with each other too much, since they play to different types of fans.
Also 14:00 are you kidding? That's CLEARLY the ship from "Flight of the Navigator." Compliance! (Edit: NVM.)
I saw Godzilla 2000 in the theater on it's opening weekend and thought that it was a lot of fun. At the end of the movie, the audience clapped and cheered.
This is one of my personal favorites. Yeah sure the CGI is crap, and the dubbing is weird at times, but honestly those things don't really bother me. I love the story, characters, Godzilla's design, Orga, and the score (at least the US version).
Seeing this movie in theaters back in November of this year, it was an amazing experience
Merry Christmas, Brandon! Thanks for the fantastic entertainment, and I hope you have a great 2024!

The dedication at the end was perfect. Thank you for honoring his memory.
I was under the impression that the Godzilla Prediction Network was just a bunch of civilians, not part of the government. Kind of a cross between stormchasers and Bigfoot investigators.
It blows my mind that one character, to this day, is still going strong and won an Oscar!! It's absolutely crazy awesome if you think about it.
Keep these going as long as you love making them!
Your videos are hilarious

What a way to end 2023 on this channel. I remember renting this movie at my local Blockbuster, during my reintroduction to the franchise back in 2008. This was definitely a good one, a real pallet cleanser after the lackluster Roland Emmerich film.
I hope you had a Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year.
Dam, you really now your audience. Big fan of the big G and your channel. A hug from Portugal
Hey brandon could review any of the monsterverse movies for godzilla 70th year anniversary?
My god, he's back. The stalker somehow thawed himself out after being frozen solid in the frigid Canadian winter. Brandon's balls are in danger again!
Always a good day when Brandon uploads... and a godzilla video no less.
I've been a Godzilla fan since I was a very young child in the 70s. This design immediately became my all-time favorite, and still is to this day. Love how "spikey" and pointy he is, and his colors are fantastic. This is one of my very favorites in the franchise.
Can't wait to see your review of Godzilla Minus One. Believe me, this one is epic !
I forgot that ninja was there.
The fact that I rewatched this entire video series in one day like 3 days ago wondering when the next one would come out and now it's here
