    I started using my power washer yesterday and it was streaking. Saw this video and cleaned and greased the unit, put back together and it worked perfectly. Saw so many comments on other sites saying the surface cleaner was garbage. This 10 minute fix was well worth the effort. Thanks

    Thanks! Mine was a different model but all parts looked the same. I couldn't get the inner chamber to release so I just used some Silicone grease spray with the red straw attachment. I sprayed lightly until it looked like it seeped into the gap. Then put it all back together and tightened. I noticed I tightened too tightly so I loosen it a 1/8 turn. Worked great!

    Thank you for this info! We were cleaning our driveway with just a wand on our pressure washer and our good neighbor brought us his surface cleaner and said "Dude, this will make that job so much easier." Well, he was right. He then left on a trip and said he would just get it back when he came back.
    We worked on the driveway and were 80% done when the thing quit spinning on us. I thought I had done something to it and panicked thinking I had broken the thing.
    Next stop... TH-cam and you. I followed your directions and had it working again in just minutes.
    Thank you so sharing!

    What's the differences between your professional model that broke and this one? Which one would you buy going forward and why? I have used the EZ Cleaner and Dewalt 18". Dewalt goes smoother, but doesn't clean as deeply. EZ Clean has had more mechanical issues. We blow out the lines and take out the nozzles will try greasing. Thanks

  • @93blink
    @93blink 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The key to keeping these running well isn't simply lubricating it though that certainly helps and is easy to do. The key is the water you are putting through it. A lot of people simply don't keep their pressure washers and hoses clean. That means making sure there is no small debris in your detergent tank (whether or not you have a filter on the pickup hose or not), making sure you connect both ends of the your hoses together to prevent debris from getting in them when not in use, and certainly running water through the wand without any nozzle on the end or connected to the surface washer before you connect to nozzle or surface cleaner. You can't pump any sort of dirt or grit through these surface cleaners. The majority of them use nylon bushings as bearings, the nozzle orifices are very small, debris in water will certainly cause premature failure to the nylon bushings and clog the nozzles. Flush garden hoses before hooking up to your pressure washer also. Don't just pick them up laying on the ground and hook them up without running water through them first. The screen that stops larger debris in water hose fitting will not stop debris such as sand or small particles. Your pump will wear prematurely. Keep everything you hook up to pressure washer clean, water hose clean and store you pump with pump saver and you will extend the lifespan of everything.

    Dan I kept having an issue of not spinning even after lubrication. I finally took a real close look at the seals in housing and found they are a split washer. I removed them both and greased the back side area. Surface cleaner is now working great, I almost threw it in the garbage, thankfully I didn't. Keep up the good videos I have learned a lot from your channel.

    I use TH-cam to see how to do a variety of things that I have either no or very little experience. Sometimes the results are not what I am looking for or are confusing. Every once in a while I get a video that nails exactly what I want.
    Dan did it for me with video. I have been using the red surface cleaner from Home Depot, and the first one worked for several cleanings. Once it gave out, I tried to find some "repair" parts for the bushing section, but I could not find anything online or even from the manufacturer.
    The same red pressure cleaners I bought after the first one seem to last less and less each time until recently I only got a single cleaning from one. I was quite disappointed for several reasons. The new ones just didn't perform very well on the first use. The arms didn't spin very well, and often stopped spinning altogether during the cleaning process. I threw a couple away probably prematurely.
    I bought the Briggs & Stratton unit Dan mentions in this video. When I hooked it up, it didn't clean very well. I could actually count the rpms just by watching the arm turn. Then I realized I had a pump problem and not a surface cleaner problem. I had a new pump installed, and my problems were solved.
    But I am now doing Dan's maintenance program after every use, and I expect the units will last much longer. I use the pressure washer about 10 to 15 times a year.
    Just a word in defense of the red cleaner from Home Depot - it is only rated to 3300 psi. If it is used on a pump putting out 3600 psi, it is about 10% above the stated pressure limit. I can see why it failed so quickly for Dan.
    But I thank you , Dan, for this great video.
    I am probably going to upgrade my surface cleaners once the two I have give out. Does anyone have any suggestions on one I can get that will last for 15 or 20 cleanings if maintained properly? Especially one that I can get spare parts to replace in the high wear parts like the bushings. My pressure washer is rated for 3100 psi maximum so I don't necessarily need an expensive one used in high pressure commercial pressure washing units. Preferably less than $250.00.

      Thank you for the awesome comment. I now use the BE Whirl-A-Way 14 inch Surface Cleaner. It took me a little bit to get used to it, but I like it now. It was just over $100. th-cam.com/video/Sslh8b2lG1w/w-d-xo.html

    Before I saw this, I had one of these and started getting stripes on the driveway and just wasn't cleaning quite like it should. Took it back today and got another one. Going to grease it up and use it tomorrow. Do you think the stripes on the driveway were caused from something going wrong with the surface cleaner or a pressure washer issue?

    • @DansVlog

I am now considering a business as a result of watching them. I bought a Briggs-Stratton surface cleaner at Lowes this am and discovered when I got home it was a 14" with nozzles on the tips, unlike the video of the 15" model where the tips did not appear to have them. Is one better than the other? Should I keep the 14" or take it back for the 15".

I bought my unit "used like new" from Amazon and it had no instructions so I don't know, but this procedure should be front and center in the instructions and MUST be done at the end of each day of use, maybe even more often.

    Hi Dan, Great video. I have a similar one, the Homelite 15 in. EZ Clean Gas Surface Cleaner it's red. The mechanics look identical to yours so thank you for the tips on how to lubricate. While using mine recently I noticed a lack of pressure and discovered that in the top of the fixture there is a what they call a high-pressure water filter does yours have this water filter? I removed the water filter and the pressure came back I don't really see the need for a water filter in the top of the surface cleaner considering that there are not filters at the end of your wands and there's also a filter at the water inlet for the garden hose. The replacement filter is only about three bucks but I am considering not replacing it and just leaving it out, curious as to what are your thoughts on this? Also while I'm at it what are your thoughts or what are the rules for pressure washing in the rain. I am in Florida and it rains every day should you push on through or stop when it rains? Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

    • @DansVlog
      @DansVlog  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +XStyleFitness I am from Ft Lauderdale area!! I wash in the rain if not too bad but realize rain will dilute your bleach maybe before it gets a chance to clean off the mildew so... use your judgement. If the filter wasn't there would the surface cleaner tips get clogged? That is what the filter or screen is for. Up to you to replace it or leave it out

    • @XStyleFitness
      @XStyleFitness 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dan's Vlog. Good morning Dan, thought I would quickly share something with you. I was curious about my output psi so I purchased a $20 pressure gauge and hooked it up to my pressure hose outlet. My machine is rated at 3200 psi, surprisingly I was only getting 1500 psi operating pressure when I pull the trigger. I have adjusted my unloader valve and increased it to 2800 on trigger pull and 3200 when I release the trigger. (Not wanting to over stress the machine) Curious if you have ever tested your "actual" psi. Mine was factory set, which makes me wonder how many others are using theirs thinking they are getting what's on the label. Most units don't come with a gauge, but it was well worth the 20 bucks to get an accurate reading. I am thinking this is why my surface cleaner was not rotating. Have a great week!!
