I don't like how everyone phrases this as a meme ban, because it's so much worse than that. It gives people the wrong impression as if it's a small thing that will only affect a small part of the internet but it will do so much worse than what is even discussed here. This wont benefit the large corporations in the long run, in fact it will most likely screw them over as a lot of music and films will get less publicity either due to the lack of content creators getting the word out if they are lucky, at worst social media platforms will decide it's not worth dealing with the E.U. and will simply cease operations there, resulting in millions of dollars in lost revenue for everyone involved and will likely screw over the entire internet as a whole.

This is aboslutely terrifying. My entire life is the internet, the internet helped in constructing who I am today, if it's all taken away, then who am I anymore? from what I can find, Article 13 isn't happening because on March 20 2019 MEP asked for it to be deleted from the directive and 348 voted towards that. I'm not completely sure what that actually means but it looks like it's no longer happening.

It's not like those people don't use FaceBook, TH-cam, Twitter, ect. So if the services got shut down they would want to correct it not only for the people but for themselves. I was born in 2005, so I can't really say I've used it my entire life. I honestly didn't start paying attention to it until 2011. But that's beside the point. The problem is that it can be really hard to get enough people to join under a certain cause. I understand that we definitely should do something about it, I just think in the U.S., at least, it might be out of our hands. Sorry to be negative about it, I just wanted to point that out.
Rather than making content, there is something that the USA is even better at: going to war to protect their rights. By all means, create content protesting Article 13, but also bring it to the attention of your representatives how this article attacks your freedoms and your livelihoods, your very way of life. Hopefully, this will come to an end without needing the use of violence, however such a situation means that such a solution *must* be brought to mention and should remain on the table.
TH-cam does a great job dealing with copyright stuff considering the 2 billion users they warn users to take it down or offer to share ad revenue with the original music artist. Not perfect but it works better than automatic copyright strikes and lawsuits.

And there's also the fact that most of things on TH-cam are not just a work in it's original entirety. Most of it is a parody or just a small piece of the media. Of course, anybody uploading a movie or TV show in its entirety should be stopped. But there's no reason a parody or worse, a simple image should get someone banned.

from what I can find, Article 13 isn't happening because on March 20 2019 MEP asked for it to be deleted from the directive and 348 voted towards that.
I'm not completely sure what that actually means but it looks like it's no longer happening.

Not to be overly political, but this is WAY bigger of an issue than losing memes or even thousands of jobs (both tragedies of their own). I think we can all agree that news networks (for example) have their own agenda and are KNOWN for not always telling us the whole story. Part of the beauty of youtube is being able to see what the news won’t tell us; eyewitness videos and/or opposing opinions (gasp).
Alienating a country and not allowing outside content to be viewed will cause an informational blackout, and only letting one perspective be shown is kind of what’s done in countries run by dictators. You control the propaganda, you control a large percentage of the people

It's not like those people don't use FaceBook, TH-cam, Twitter, ect. So if the services got shut down they would want to correct it not only for the people but for themselves. I honestly can't imagine a world without TH-cam. I'm part of the worlds first generation to use the internet to the fullest since brith, so when I say the internet, "especially youtube", is a part of my life and has played a big huge role. I know this is crazy but desperate times calls for desperate measures - its funny how the people behind all this is bigger companies trying to destroy are way of life. It is unfair that people we barly know are deciding our future. I think we should not only raise awarness, but we should be able to have a say. This also seems to be in violation of the freedom of speech our country was founded upon. It's about time we gather or selves and unite to defend what is ours. The problem is that it can be really hard to get enough people to join under a certain cause. I understand that we definitely should do something about it, I just think in the U.S., at least, it might be out of our hands. Sorry to be negative about it, I just wanted to point that out.

Rather than making content, there is something that the USA is even better at: going to war to protect their rights. TH-cam does a great job dealing with copyright stuff considering the 2 billion users they warn users to take it down or offer to share ad revenue with the original music artist. Not perfect but it works better than automatic copyright strikes and lawsuits.

And there's also the fact that most of things on TH-cam are not just a work in it's original entirety. Most of it is a parody or just a small piece of the media. Of course, anybody uploading a movie or TV show in its entirety should be stopped. But there's no reason a parody or worse, a simple image should get someone banned.
