Thank you sooo much! You saved me! It’s been forty years since I’ve sewn and I’m a little rusty! The steps on my pattern are not enough so really I appreciate this so much!
Thank you so much! I love the way you sew and this technique for sleeve lining and attachment is perfect. We will have a garment that we can be proud to wear, not something just thrown together. You are super great!
Your instructions are really easy and clear to understand. You are the first TH-cam Seamstress that really helps me with my Projects!! Thank you so so much!
God bless you !!!!!! I was looking for this tutorial for a lifetime ... but it arrived Prof Pinchusion and I finally learned ... thank you with all my heart !!!
Where have you been all my life??? You're probably the most helpful and insightful seamstress I've come across youtube, by far! I look forward to watching more of your videos :D
God bless you for this tutorial. I have a Vogue pattern that calls for attaching the lining this way, but does not give the steps and I was at a loss. I am so thankful for this tutorial.
I feel lucky to find this video.. I always try to find a way to hide those sleeve seam allowances so that the dress could be pretty & neat inside & outside but haven't found yet someone Who understand what i mean untuk i find this video.. Thank you so much this is very helping..
thanks for sharing but do you have a tutorial not just lining the sleeve but 1 such as lining a bathrobe, where you have the front right & back pieces as well?
Professor Pincusion, first off thanks for this wonderful tutorial. Is there a way to attach the sleeve lining with a machine? I don't know why but my slip stitches always open up after wearing the garment once or twice even with small stitches. Thanks again!
homyra ahmady there's no way to do it on the machine without it showing on the right side of the garment. Maybe just do a slip stitch going around the sleeve twice to reinforce it.
Me too. I'm looking for how to sew the lining into the armhole using the machine without leaving a raw edge. The order of a lined dress is zipper first with lining so it looks clean. Next I do the attachment of the lining inside out of the sleeves. Then all good and suddenly only the part that needs hand sewing is left to do. Wonder if there's a way out of having to hand sew. Anyone?
I had no idea that the sleeve lining would have to be hand-sewed. Fitting that lining sleeve around the opening "folded over" has to be awkward. But yours turned out really nice! I'm thinking that there must be other ways to put a lining in a sleeve, because many lined jackets have a lining near the cuff that looks like IT is hand-sewed in--where alterations could be made if the sleeve is too long or short for the wearer. With your method, is there a problem with the cuff lining slipping out at the end?
when we are done attaching the base fabric of our sleeve to their bodice and are moving on to attaching the lining fabric of our sleeves, is hand-stitching the only way we could possibly attach it together? i'm only wondering because im scared i wont finish this garment in time and finish it off as professionally as i normally would :( in advance, thanks so much!! youre a life saver
Cindy Lette hand stitching is really the only way to do it so that the stitches will be invisible. You can stitch it with the machine but then you'll see the stitches on the right side of the garment. It's really up to you on how you want to do it. I'm so glad you're enjoying our tutorials :)
You can sew it by machine if you wish but realize you're going to see it on the right side of the garment so it'll be completely visible and if you're stitching isn't perfect it might be obvious. Hand sewing is done so the stitches are invisible on both sides. :)
That was awesome!!! Thanks-and on yoyr website-i would like to gte the premium stuff-and pay 5$- so what is included! ? Like are there printable patterns? I would love to buy the premium on your sit that I see you have awesome videos
I'm far from an expert, I do everything by Simplicity patterns, but isn't this a bit of a hard way to do it? Don't most patterns call for you to sew the lining and the outside fabrics like a normal shirt of bodice with the sleeves, and then sewing them together at the edges? That way you can omit the hand sewing except for the window left not sewn so you can turn it right side out. I don't know, there's likely something I'm missing but this seems a bit more difficult.
You could but there will still be handsewing involved. You would have to pre-hem both the lining sleeves and outer sleeves and then once the lining is inside, you'll have to hand sew the hemmed edges together. Otherwise, every time you take your arm out of the sleeve, the lining will pull out too. This method allows you to skip the hemming since it's just one seam instead.
+Cheryl Draper do you mean attach the lining to the sleeve prior to putting the sleeve on the bodice? You could but then you're going to see the sleeve seam allowance on the inside. Part of the reason for doing a lining is so the inside will look nice without seeing seam allowances.
It's called being creative. Sewing your own clothes may seem petty and frustrating at times but number 1, it's fun and number two it saves money. Number 3, it also allows you to make exactly what you want. You can pick your own fabric as well as what you're even creating. From dresses, to hats, to t-shirts, to even shoes! So please don't say something like that again, because you wouldn't understand unless you were passionate about it.

This is good for home sewing people, but for professionals, there are ways to do the lining without hand sewing. That is what I am looking for.
Wow. This is so helpful and comprehensive.
Thank you so much!! Oh my goodness!! This is much easier than i thought!
This is very helpful for a beginner like me! Thank you so much for this tutorial! I immediately hit the subscribe button ❤️
Is it that you cut extra cloth for this type of stitching with lining
Thanks for this video..now i understand how to sew lining sleeve.
How would you go about it if the sleeve had a placket but the fabric requires a lining?
hi may i ask that can you do the.lining of the bodice and sleeve all together at once or you have to do them separately?
I love this …. But can you do a tutorial on lining a puffed sleeve for a little girls dress? Thanks.
Thanks so much for this tutorial. It was very helpful ☺❤
thanks for sharing but do you have a tutorial not just lining the sleeve but 1 such as lining a bathrobe, where you have the front right & back pieces as well?
We don't have one for a bathrobe yet.

John Madrigale I'm so glad you've been enjoying our tutorials
Great tutorial!!!
how do i fix my lining that is pulling on the outer fabric creating wrinkles?
Professor Pincusion, first off thanks for this wonderful tutorial. Is there a way to attach the sleeve lining with a machine? I don't know why but my slip stitches always open up after wearing the garment once or twice even with small stitches. Thanks again!

Karen V It shouldn't slip to the right side because of the understitich and then topstitch. :)
Professor Pincushion oh yes, top stitching. That should help.
Thank you so much

thank u.. this is what i've been looking for.
Love it! Thank you!
Nayla You're welcome :)
Would doing this be the same for making a lining for a jacket or blazer?
+dragonfly95100 I would say, for the most part, yes. I did a jacket for our steampunk pattern and it was the same process.
Professor Pincushion thanks 😁
is there any other way of attaching the sleeve to the bodice instead of handstitching it? what will happen if it is sewn by machine?

Thank you I like this
Best best best video
How cute your hands
kind of all of it!
Seeing you use such a thick needle for handstitching the thin lining hurts my soul.
I feel like this is too confusing. Should be an easier method...
but it aint ralph tho
Waaaaaaaw....
ok
Its better to buy cloths than spending this petty time to figure out..
Hobbies aren't meant to save time, they're a way to spend your time. :) Sewing is fun!
