- Welcome to my Silent Hunter III play-through! We will be taking command of the U-105 a type IX U-Boat. Starting in late 1941 we will be facing new challenges as ASW technology ramps up and the balance in the Atlantic Shifts. This should be a very interesting series and I hope you will all join me for the ride!

Some Anecdotal information, from my wife. Her uncle, the Merchant Marine, had two ships sunk from under him by U-Boats, before he finally made it across the Atlantic to England. 😉🤔

Yeah there's some amazing stories in some families. In my circle of relatives there was a merchant mariner who was torpedo'd no less than three times. Lived to tell about it though! Perhaps in real life ships sink relatively slowly, so there's enough time to get to the lifeboats. Unless you're carrying volatile cargo or are a warship (=ammo stores) I guess.

I really love the voices and sounds in this came it's pretty immersive.. And imagine being a happy US sailor thinking nothing will hit you that close to mainland US and suddenly you get torpedoed xD
Being torpedoed on any vessel seems like a terrifying ordeal.

As for books, I highly recommend "The U-boat war in the Carribean' by Gaylord T. M. Kelshall.
It shows how the U-boats nearly brought the US to it's knees, had they succeeded in that theater!
I'm not sure diving and using the electric motors would save fuel, not unless the weather on the surface was really bad, since you'd just have to use the engines to recharge the batteries later.
The 37 mm flak can be used to sink some smaller ships and destroy guns on larger ships when using AP shells. If a ship has around 2k draft or less, it can usually be sunk with 37 mm fire. Good to know if you want to preserve those precious torpedoes and deck gun ammo on long patrols around the north american coast.

One of my favorite SH3 memories is of me being engaged by a USN airship. There's something truly paradoxical about a ship in the air attacking a ship under the water.
Every video of yours has a highlight. This one was at 31:21 with the well placed shot that followed. Well done, Herr Kaleun!

Note the Magnetic did not go under 22:00 but hit same depth. Depth keeping of trops was not accurate it could have gone below 15 m.
Sr. Uboat captain here... I think that 2nd ship probably was that called in contact, just changed course from south to southwest, and that's why you didn't pick up anything on the hydrophones after you sank it... It was a similar track in a close location.
Your channel is dangerous as uboats were to allied ships back in days of war. I just downloaded SH3 after several years of hiatus thanks to your vids, then installed horrible amount of mods (yikes) and spent almost 6hrs solving why the game crashed. Got it working though, could have screamed of pure joy at that moment when first mission loaded without any issues, lol! :D
This Admiral probably got dragged over the coals by FDR for his purview - and finally had to use the same convoy system as in Britain. For the Eastern USA. Hmm! And that third ship you spotted might be a Coastal Defence Vessel. With better armament.
If I recall you mentioned something about going back into SH3 Commander and adding a rating to one or more men. Only do that when in port between missions. Don't do it while at sea or you will risk having the game crash to desk top. In fact, don't modify anything with SH3Commander at sea. I am not sure which SH3Commander version you use, but in mine, it allows me to assign a rating for each enlisted man and Bootsmann, and multiple ratings for officers and senior WOs. After the first mission, and you have ended in port, you can use SH3Com (in mine at least) to assign the desired ratings. I like to fill out each location--engine rooms, conning tower, control room, radio and sonar rooms with appropriate specialty ratings for the ncos and men, with the same number and ratings in the crews quarters. Torpedo specialists I usually keep in the forward quarters area and only put them in the torpedo rooms as needed.

Talking about Admiral King, he hated the British because he had the misfortune of meeting Admiral Beatty. He also didn't forgive the Royal Navy for disrespecting America's authority over our waters.

I finally bought this game after wanting it for years. It looks a bit complicated, in depth (pun intended) meaning a lot to learn before I'm actually successful on any missions. What do you mean you "fixed" the supply ship? Did you actually have to edit a file manually or was it a patch or update or what? If there's stuff that's broken like that I'd like to know where I learn how others like you have got it working.
I'm watching this for the first time a year after your posting. Mayport should be Jacksonville.
A ship that small, you should get on the flack guns and tear it to shreds.

Read in a book at least once U Boat hit ship, bananas came to the surface. They sank a banana freighter.
Must have been Gros Michel bananas, the most important banana cultivar pre-WW2 and a little after, now long lost to the disease.
lag dosn't always mean convoys, you're pretty close to the east coast, you get lag when big shunks of land needs to load in.
Does the game take targets signaling SSS “under sub attack” into account?
Yeah they will shoot off radio messages and if Warships/aircraft are in the area they will come.

How did you fix the conning tower emblems and the ability to resupply at the ship without affecting your save?
I did it in port. You can add mods/ mess with the game files in port and your game should be fine.
At point blank range, considering that wolfpack almost never uses his AA guns, why not use the AA guns on ships?
They wouldn't do much against ships, and it's unwise to get that close to them anyway.

How do you enlist or rather when are you aloud to enlist more crew ? atm for me it says i have to many, so when if ever can you enlist more crew ? or is it always set like that because i would like a full compliment as in an officer in every section
Yeah you can only have a limited number of crew. You are limited to 5 officers so you just have to manage them.
How did you fix the emblems? Have the same problem with the uboat comp
Being a Virginian, I found the history amazing, at how many ships were sunk by the Hun, _in_ the Chesapeake Bay area.
Can't help but notice in earlier episodes, you shoot a hair late for an optimal broadside impact. 🤔

How did you fixed the emblems?
I had to go in and use a program called S3D editor to fix it. The version of the mod with the eagles should work fine. I believe that it is an issue with the no eagle version.
are you on w10 or do you actually have a windows xp just for this?
It runs on Win 10. With tons of modding.
How do you refuel at Las Palmas Corrientes or any other ship at neutral harbours? I tried unfortunately when nothing happened I saved in Las Palmas Harbor and now th gamed crashes on loading the game

SH3 commander has options to increase time compression but it's quite unstable over 2048
Yeah I used Sh3 commander. There is an option to adjust TC settings. Very helpful when you have to cross the Atlantic.
Which mod is responsible for the fact that you can see the position of torpedoes at sea?
You mean on the map? Or in the 3d world? In both cases it is in the base game.
@@Wolfpack345On a mission, at sea. You fire a torpedoes and can be seen on the water where it flows. And besides, I guess I saw that as you look through the periscope it shows the name of the ship
Yeah that is included in the base game. The G7a torpedoes leave a bubble trail on the surface. Other electric torpedoes do not.
