Your scope is up way too long. You will be detected sooner or later. Use the attack map after taking quick observations. Calculate target course, speed, AOB when the scope is down.
1. Observation: Up scope. Range-Mark. Bearing-Mark. Down scope. (10 seconds max exposure)
2. Mark attack map. Evaluate target type. Decide on attack, set own course and speed. Set torp depth. Select tubes. Set salvo spread.
3. Observation: Up scope. Range-Mark. Bearing-Mark. Down scope. (10 seconds exposure)
4. Mark attack map. Set enemy course and speed. Review attack plan, torpedo settings.
5. Shooting Observation: Up scope. Range-Mark. Bearing-Mark. Down scope. (10 seconds exposure)
6. Mark attack map. You should have a solution by now if target has not zigged.
7. Fire immediately if within desired range.
If too far off or zig-zag has occurred, you will need more observations before shooting. Add a few seconds for each scope use if the tactical situation (escorts, planes) means you have to do an "all-around" look for possible threats.

He's definitely playing it riskier for our entertainment and to confirm kills. Obv much safer is fire and dive and get away. If a hit is scored and a merchant is dead in the water, better to leave it and save torps and let it sink on it's own and def no gun fights. But playing it safe would be boring to watch.
Good job resupplying in the Canary Islands. Although I would have stayed there a bit longer, in order to load 2 torpedoes from the external deck slots into the 2 empty slots in the bow compartment. It's much safer doing it in the Canaries than it is off an enemy coast!
The Shipping routes map is a useful guide to show you where the most heavily frequented convoy routes are. But what it doesn't show you is WHEN each route is most active. Different routes became less or more popular at different stages of the war, depending on how great the Axis to Allied shipping to the route was at different times, and also on how well or how poorly the associated land and air fighting was going (how urgently supplies were needed).
Yes no brainer getting those torps loaded. External torpedoes are worth a fraction of internal ones. He's been stuck before for damn near a week with just 1 or two internals and 8 external..... Very limiting.

Absolutely love the series so far. I’ve taken inspiration to do my own series in the future. Also with the possible neutral ship. It’s fine. You’ll just be the act of aggression they use to go to war.

If you are moving underwater less than 3 knots then your boat´s depth rises 2 meters. Periscope depth through "P" button is 10 meters I think, so that´s why your conning tower hitting the surface. I personally never using "P" for setting periscope depth but manually set between 13-15 meters, depends on weather. Than my boat´s tower is completly covered even with stopped engines.
Also you can save some fuel with manual speed setting. On VII type is one third 10 knots but your best range is on 8 knots.I don´t know most economical speed of IX boats though. But like that you can expand your range more then few thousands kilometers. Just ask navigator on your maximum range at current speed with different speed settings. Even though during storms is still better set one third because is impossible to keep concrete speed, during calm seas or low winds it´s worth it.

I can hardly imagine the smell of a U Boat after a month at sea.

They where called "Pig boats" by both allied and axis dockyards.
Dock workers were known to vomit and or feel sick because of the smell of boats coming back from patrol.
Didn't they have toilets? I think each man could wash with salt water too. I bet it smelt of diesel oil and bilge water more than anything else
@@bobbyrayofthefamilysmith24 They had two toilets but the one in the galley would be used up for provisions so they had one functional toilet aboard, and it was only usable while surfaced or in shallow water, so boats that dived deep to escape attack did not have a functional head until they came up with a new system in the later war that had to have someone be trained specifically on the toilet operation. One uboot was sunk because of their toilet, if you look up the story of U-1206.

But this Kaleun is headed for a court-martial anyway: Free-lancing the route to assigned patrol areas, surfacing for artillery duels with armed merchants in broad daylight within air patrol range, exposing his scope too much, shooting possible neutral vessels, operating in shallow waters off a well-defended coast, etc., etc. All violations of standing BdU directives. Our fugitive from the law of averages will probably be sunk with all hands before Doenitz can reassign him to command of a potato-peeling kampfgruppe.

Hi! I recently tried to resupply with Corrientes like you and nothing happened. No torpedoes (I had only 5 at the time) and no fuel (still 80%). I play War Ace Campaign 5.0 and with h.sie patch. Is this a known issue? After current patrol I want to patch WAC to 5.2. Will it help with the issue?
I had and still have the Silent Hunter 1-5 games and no PC to play them on. I’m not sure why I’m keeping them. I wish MS will make them for XBox 1.

As an absolute layman, I would have believed an enemy submarine would definitely constitute a priority target. Care to explain how it’s not so? Is racking up tonnage the only factor that counts?
Also an amateur here, but I think I can answer that question.
It's not even the tonnage.
You'd have to be insanely lucky to hit such a small and maneuverable target in the weather conditions that were there even with an impact fuse torpedo. Magnetic fuse, which is the only thing that was loaded? Forget it, it'd be a waste of a perfectly good torpedo.
*If* the weather was better and *if* he had type one torps loaded (the impact fuse ones), then *maybe* letting one loose was an option to consider.
And even still, going after an Allied sub? From a strategic standpoint, a sub is of far less importance than a freighter. Germany was employing a doctrine of trade disruption, and it's not like the european Axis powers had a lot of trade going through the oceans to fear the Allied submarines.
That torpedo would probably be better off being fired at a merchant vessel no matter what.

@@maybemaeb The torpedoes have both triggering types available. The difference you see in these videos between the torpedoes is the propulsion (air or electric), both offer the impact and magnetic trigger options.

As far as I know this has never been done. I have seen a command room built but it did not tilt or anything. I will try to find a link to it.
Do you have a video / comments on how to get SHIII working at 1920 x 1080 resolution as the application was hard coded for 1024 x 768.
