      Perhaps you would be able to assist me with the issue I am having. I do not use things like voicemeter or discord, where the concern for crackling and popping issues seem to have arisen; however, my crackling and popping is happening every single time I do anything related to multitasking on my PC. For example: I am watching a TH-cam video, and during the video, I open my computer's settings menu in a new window, HORREDNOUS crackling noise, followed by the setting windows immediately CLOSING ON ITS OWN. I've updated every driver I can think of, including BIOS. I've tried adjusting the minimum processor state in power options, I've tried turning off Fast Boot in windows, which allegedly solved this problem for others. I am at a loss. I work with my PC every day, and I have to live with this irritating crackling.

      @@OverworldCane actually to fix it is very simple. you just need to go to the sound settings in the control panel. in playback select the audio you are using then open properties. go to advanced then untick the allow applications to take exclusive control of this device. do that for all audio types in the playback menu except voicemeeter.

      This did NOT work in my case. My mic makes crackling sounds when I speak probably because I have a higher pitched voice. I have done precisely what you suggested. I have also used noise gate as well as every other filter in OBS playing around with all kinds of combinations in the settings. I have done the 48 khz tactic as well. NOTHING has worked so far. The crackling / small popping sounds when I speak just wont go away whenever I use OBS to stream. When I am NOT using OBS my mic is fine.

      Did you ever end up finding out what the issue was? Within 30-60 minutes of gaming I experience the audio crackle and it’s been driving me nuts, I think playing around with the Affinity cores in this program helped me out.
      **Edit** so the crackling for me was being caused by my GPU getting too hot overtime. That explains why it would only crackle during heavy loads. Installing 3 extra fans in my case solved the issue completely.

      I can't find a video that shows an example of what this crackling audio sounds like. I'm new to pc and I just got mine and I'm having this issue. Not only is it crackling but it also makes my screen stutter hard, fps drops and after a short time it will restart itself. No blue screen nothing just turns off and back on. I thought it was the wiring in my building, I got that issue fixed and I still have this issue. Could it be my monitor?

    Fantastic suggestion and fix. It works like a charm, took me a while to find this solution to a mysterious problem. Something I noticed is that when downloading a video game on steam, youtube audio beings crackling again, there's an explanation in reddit that entails that when your system is performing high band traffic activities on a network like downloading a game for example while watching a video might cause tiny delays in the playback audio that manifest in perceived pops and cracks. I was wondering if you have any suggestions on a possible fix for that sort of issue if there even is one. Literally after the video game was done downloading, audio went back to normal.
    "Crackling sound from video streaming when downloading games in background. " this reddit thread best describes the issue, either way, extremely grateful for the free solution you provided.

    Another solution if someone doesn't want to download Process Lasso is to use a batch file that calls a PowerShell command. You can then set the batch file to be run at Windows startup. I use Voicemeeter and have the same crackling issue and thought it was just my computer for the longest time. I have both the batch file and powershell script built if you would like to see it to make another video about it. The PS script is 2 lines and the batch file is 1 line so it's very basic and not complicated. More specifically, I'm not a computer programmer and I was able to understand what the script was doing. What it does is it sets the audiodg process to a priority to high and an affinity of CPU 2. Both adjustments are obviously editable in the script.

      I'd love to see your solution, as I really don't like the idea of installing a software only for a workaround. Been having this issue for ages already now, just yesterday I reset my PC to factory settings in the hopes that would fix it - and the crackling didn't show up until ... well, until now :D

    • @Dunc
      @Dunc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@RoyBeerZ
      I'll keep this as short as possible due to character limits and in case Franswah wants to make another video for content.
      Open up (2) blank Notepad files
      File 1: this will be the PowerShell file that actually makes the changes. Paste the following text on 2 separate lines (don't type line 1 and line 2, that's just for reference)
      Line 1: Get-WmiObject Win32_process -filter 'name = "Audiodg.exe"' | ForEach-object{$_.SetPriority(128)}
      Line 2: Get-Process Audiodg | ForEach-Object {$_.ProcessorAffinity=4}
      Note: the priority 128 value is what makes it high priority and affinity value of 4 is what locks it to only CPU 2. You can change these values as needed if you wanted.
      Last step: save this notepad file titled whatever you want with ".ps1" as the file extension when naming it.
      File 2: this will be the batch file that runs the PowerShell file. Paste the following text on 2 separate lines in File 2 (don't type line 1 and line 2, that's just for reference)
      Line 1: @ECHO OFF
      Line 2: PowerShell -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -Command "& {Start-Process PowerShell -ArgumentList '-NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File ""C:\FolderName\File1Name.ps1""' -Verb RunAs}"
      Note: reference the file path of the .ps1 file you made and put that as file path in File 2. Only replace the actual filepath text and not any of the quotation marks. Also, this will run in Admin mode so it will ask you each time to allow it to run if double-clicking the .bat file manually. Unless you run it via Task Scheduler as admin.
      Last step: save this notepad file titled whatever you want with ".bat" as the file extension.
      Now you can run the .bat file using Windows Task Scheduler after logging into Windows or link it to hotkey button on something like the Stream Deck.
      If you search Google for this code you'll get hits as that is where I found this code myself. What is strange is that I also have voicemeeter on my work laptop that doesn't use Discord and I have no crackling issues when chatting with people via Teams.

    As a software dev, this approach makes my skin itch. It is masking the problem rather than understanding the root cause and making informed decisions to solve it once and for all. That said, I’m not a Discord developer, so I’d be stuck with this too. Fundamentally any time you feel the need to touch any process priority, it is a massive red flag. Trust me. I’ve fixed situations where developers in my company kept hiking thread priorities until 24 cores running at Real-time priority stopped windows from working entirely… (this isn’t as critical as that and will work - it just makes my skin itch, like I said).

    • @dungareion
      @dungareion 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd love to hear or read your solution. This fixed the issue with my crackling sound immediatly. I'd like to know what was causing it and how to fix the problem rather than patch it. That written this did work. Now why did it work? Why is it a patch? What was the root problem? What's a better fix?

    • @notverygeordie
      @notverygeordie 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@dungareion I’d have to go in with dev tools, a reproduction and work it all out. As I said, I’m not any kind of Discord dev, so I’m not able to comment. The slight process priority boost will mean that audio code will be interrupted less, probably preventing the cracking. Isolating it to the single core will stop it from affecting the rest of your machine much to achieve that.

    But setting affinity on audiodg worked for me. And also using Lasso to auto-set it everytime the PC starts.
    I also heard that audiodg is really really old and haven't been updated in a long time.

      use voicemeeter , and select MME audio driver that have much buffer size. Look that the sample rate in sound panel match with all your gear / try that,.

    This fix my problems with the NVIDIA BROADCASTER in his time.
    Currently I have audio problems with new focusrite drivers, the drivers that comes in the Focusrite Control 3.11, I'm using LatencyMon to see wich drivers are getting high DPC or high execution, and I will apply this, similar to the audiodg.exe , but I'm not on the sweet spot yet.
    This is so frustrating, I'm kinda understanding why the mayority of the audio people choose Mac for their workstation solutions.
    I try with linux too (alsamixer, currently trying pipewire), but It's a nightmare too, not because of linux, I'm comfy on that, but let's say even with all the problems windows presents, it's easier than linux.
    If somebody has a recomendation or have been on my position, any help will be really appreciate it. Thanks.

    Didn't work for me... I'm on Ryzen 5500, and the only thing that works 100% is to switch pci bifurcation 2x8 in BIOS. So far no better solutions.

      I'm on AMD Ryzen 3 3200U with Radeon Vega Mobile GFX 2.60GHz.
      How would I go about switching pci bifurcation 2x8 in BIOS? It's somewhat better I guess, but the Audio Crackling is more slightly more inconsistent.

    Cheers for the video, but no matter what I did, Process Lasso just would not update the Affinity or Priority for me on boot. Such a shame.
    I found an alternative though, so for anyone having the same issue as me System Explorer worked and correctly applies the settings on boot. Same fix, different software.
