I sold a bunch of 1st edition holos raw to a shop owner a while back and he asked me, "why do you not have these graded?" Perfect example here of why you buy the card, you don't buy the grade!
I used PSA for the first time last week. As soon as I got the email about the grades I checked it. It came back a VG 3. Similar scenario as you. I examined the card pretty throughly and didn't find much damage. There was slight wear on the top, and thats about it. No way that card deserves a 3!
Every time i come across a grading thread, literally no one talks about how easy it is to swap your card for a lesser grade. I mean like honestly, there is no freaking way to even identify your specific card from the rest (like a unique serial number, bar code, QR Code), nothing. That's why I've never sent off a card for that reason alone. I have a Manga Gear 5 Luffy that will sit there until the end of time, unless i can find a respected grading company that can grade in front of me..
There needs to be a standard certificate like GIA stones, with criteria that it needs to meet & written on the certificate where it didnt meet the standards for the individual card, with a database for ease of access & with the graders' initial or identification number.

Just came across this video. And I have to say that I totally agree with the title of this video. 2 weeks ago I sent my first card ever to get graded, and before sending it to PSA, I showed the card to a couple of fellow collectors, and we all agreed that my card was in perfect condition. So you can imagine the shock on my face when they send a notice that my card had been graded and they graded it at a PSA 6...I'm like WTF is going on at PSA
All PSA has to do is remove the human grading aspect. They need to upload official card reference material and use a 30mpx camera with AI to determine the grade. 6s and 7s will become much more common and turn around time will increase astronomically. In this day and age it really doesn’t make sense to have anything graded by a person who follows their bias of choice. Grading the card strictly off the reference material is a fool proof way of exactifying card quality.
Yeah it would solve a lot of issues with human error and bias. I really believe newer sets have a less chance of getting a 10. Because everyone is sending in fresh out the pack cards, and overwhelming them with 100s of the same card in near mint condition, and of course no matter how nice they are PSA isn't going to give out 100s of 10s and flood the market. So they have to be very picky about which ones they choose, and many 10s will get a 9 just so that doesn't happen. But if you send in a card that's 15 years old they will be more impressed that an old card has been kept in mint condition all those years, and because there aren't dozens to grade all at once they can give it a 10 without worrying about flooding the market. Of course this is purely speculation but it makes sense.
Honestly it would make PSA obsolete if there was software where you could just take a photo of your card and the software determines its condition. The only thing PSA would be good for at that point is just having name recognition... which isn't even a trustworthy name brand at this point.
But ai is not advanced enough yet. Some cards have certain surfaces which AI picks up as flaws even though it is design. At the end of the day a system using both ai and human interaction is needed. But no matter what errors will happen
@@geraldchurch2060 fair point. Even the tcg player card scanner is buggy it literally scanned the ground one time and said it was a 300 card. Also black mtg cards sometimes don't scan at all. Or sometimes mistakes which set it's from for another, or think it's a promo or 1st EDT when it's not.
1000% I will NEVER send any of my cards for grading until they replace humans and just use AI instead. I want unbiased grading with the highest accuracy possible. Plus AI would allow them to grade faster, thus speeding up the process and maybe making it cheaper. Honestly someone should start an AI card grading company as competition for the industry. That company would would be a massive success.

Dealing with the same issue at PSA, grading cards from unopened packs 7s and 8s. I'm going to try to get them regraded like you and see if any come back 9s and 10s. They're costing collectors thousands.
Yeah... it's becoming a cash grab. But I will say, my parcels more recently seem to all be fairly well graded. So hopefully whatever happened with those few orders was just a blip.
They cost some collectors thousands and make thousands for others and themselves. Every time a card that should be a 10 ends up being a 9 or less the value of that card in a 10 is increased which drives people even more to wanna send cards in for a chance at a 10... very good for their laughable scam of a business but even that doesn't explain getting a 5 on a 9 or 10 card my god
I know I'm late the the party on this one, but a while back I had my first PSA 5, and it looked perfect...I cracked it and resubmitted it, and it came back a 10. It's odd, because I've agreed with the grades on 99% of the cards I've submitted, so it's not like all of my cards have been graded incorrectly. I'm still sticking with PSA as they've been solid aside from this one blip, but it was still a bit of a shock for me.
This same thing is what I am going through with PSA and I have to file a claim, I was asked for prior photos and I don't have them. I will have to regrade and see what happens.
It’s a big scam. I know a comic dealer that can call his connection there and get any grade he wants on any book. He’s been one of their largest north’s American customers for 20 years. I’ve heard him talk about taking 1000 copies of a book, getting 200 9.8s made and keeping the 20 or 30 true 10’s ungraded for the future.
The fact of the matter is you payed twice to grade each card. Money in their pocket. You basically bought 4 $0.10 plastic cases for $200 or whatever you payed to get 2 cards graded twice each. Hook, line and sinker.
I had a similar problem with two Full Art of Lillie (the UPR 151/156 one in French and the Japanese SM-P 397 one) in really great shape and they both came back as a 6 by PSA. I've found it weird since, beside a really light miscentering at the back of the UPR one(unfortunately quite common on the French cards), the cards don't have a single white dot nor scratch. So, I broke the casings and send them back to an other Grading Company, CollectAura, and I've got a 9.5 (Surface, corners and border having a 10 and centering a 9.5 [like I suspected]) on the UPR card and a 10 on the SM-P.
I joined this video when you were at 999 subs, so i decided to give you that 1 extra sub push! This was a great, quick, informative video. Thank you! Now, enjoy those 1k sub bonuses! ;)
This is horrible. I am sure this has happened to a lot of other people, they should absolutely be held accountable. PSA going down drain, will never sub with them after seeing this SGC is the only way from now on.
When I worked at Little Caesars and they inspected our store, they NEVER gave us a 100% (even when everything was perfect). So one day we asked why they only gave us a 96% and they said "Well, I had to get you for something, so we just put down that there was scotch tape on the counter." The problem was that if a store actually got a perfect score, the person evaluating would be accused of not actually inspecting the stores. So maybe the reason why the grades are so low on these cards is because if they sent out a bunch of 8s and 9s, they would be accused of not actually inspecting the cards for flaws.
I would never let PSA grade my cards bc of the following reasons: 1. The case is cheap plastic and they put in the card without sleeve 2. A 10 is the rule, lower grades the exception. It should be the opposite. Therefore a PSA 10 is likely not really a 10. I saw PSA 10 cards with printlines and whitening 3. No subgrades and intransparent grading process I use AOG for grading and I've sent in a lot of cards. Not a single one got a 10 until now and that's how it should be. Thank you for making that public! 👍
I mean sometimes we see big youtubers returns where they have like 65% 10s only and the lowest is like 8 and then the other times for the same guys its very hard to get 9s and theh get like 5 10s on huge amount of cards.. its so inconsistent
@juto8809 They know the youtubers get views and do that to make people believe they'll get 10's if they send in there cards. They are trying to keep the 10's population low and valuable.
Bought a couple of PSA graded crochet cards graded at a 9 and they all have white patches around the corners, could have been the seller but the case didn't look tampered with.
Any trade by evolution cards are hard to grade due a crease that most of those cards have. They arrived via mail with a clip that held them or something along those lines. That's where that mark/crease comes from, and most of those cards have it.
I've seen cards folded, ripped in half, water damage, scrunched up, corners missing, get 5s.. So they are 100% grading unfairly.. I'm wondering if they are different people rather than a process..
can we all just agree no matter how effed up it is but people can and WILL hate on you for no reason. who knows what the cause could be. the grader might not like the cards you sent in maybe you have the same name as the graders childhood bully. maybe the grader was having a bad day. yes its wrong but people do it and theres nothing you can do about it.
I love how he's so excited that he goes to tell his girlfriend and she's just as excited. I know we're here to shit on PSA, but this actually makes the video wholesome.
Grading is up to the graders personal experience and interpretation I think with the amount of money on these graded cards, they need 5 people giving different grades and it should be averaged from the 5, that way if someone gives you a 5 or 6 again it won't affect the total very badly
It has always been like this. It doesn't matter who you send the card to to get it graded. If you don't like the grade, carefully break and send it back. I'm convinced whenever they get a card they roll D20 unless there is obvious damage. It's the reason why I never buy graded cards if i can help it and if I do, I buy lower grades, break them out, and put them in my binder. If I have a graded 10 I'll sell it, buy back an ungraded version of the card and then use the leftover cash to get other cards.
That is why I am a firm believer that grading cards is not only a waste of time, but also money. I wont even buy a card if its graded because there is no way to guarantee if the value is accurate. Sometimes cards are graded higher than they are worth, sometimes lower. I was gifted a base set Squirtle for my bday one year that was a PSA 9.5 and there was a gash on the back and a bent corner. My friend was WAAAAY overcharged for it.
I wouldn't say it is a scam, but once shit like this starts happening people should stop trusting this particular grading company, as long as people keep using it they earn more money when they resubmit, Something that got a 5 should be able to get +/- 1 so 4-6 on 2nd grading, cards going from a 5(for most cards = basically worthless) to 9/10 is a problem. I mean only reason PSA is in business is because people trust them, if their rating means nothing why do people even keep using them?
I was shopping singles the other day and bought a psa 8 cheaper than an ungraded. While shopping for it I noticed some psa10 that where looking less good than psa 8 and 9. Either the centering was visibly not as good or you could see a white outline on a corner. The 8 I bought looks better than most 9 and 10 I saw that day. I just wanted to crack it for my collection so I didn't care too much, but it just shows how poorly graded they are.
Sadly it don’t matter. PSA can do as they please and the ignorant general public still swears by them . U can see so many 10s that are no way 10s . Then they grade trimmed cards and reject pack pulled for trimming. Card grading is the biggest sham ( but oh so genius) of all time
I thought that it is pretty common knowledge that you grading is also based on the centering of the card you might not have any dents or other printing errors but the centering when the other edge is smaller and the other side is bigger is a big PSA Grade down.
A grading company shouldn't be making mistakes like this, period. There's definitely more to it than this. Either they're trying to control the flow of the market or they just aren't doing their job. Whatever the reason is, their reputation should matter more than money. If this guy had to pay for them to be regraded, i would be pissed. Ironically, i stumbled across this video while looking for alternatives to grading. Because i wanted to make an informed decision on who i want to grade my cards. Clearly, psa isn't getting my vote. Thanks for shedding light on a corrupt company.
It’s almost like something like the condition of a card is largely subjective. Also it makes them more money if people regrade a card so there’s that as well.
I sent in a Regice Gold Star in great condition and got a 2. I'm convinced they mistook the lines that are printed onto the card for scratches. Gonna break it out of the PSA case soon.
Reaction was awesome. Says all it needs to say. I’m sitting on some cards passed down to me by my cousins that the three of us agreed we’d grade and split. I’m wondering if I should wait a bit longer to see if they address some of these issues they’ve had
I have a PSA 10 that’s 100% off centered. The card is mint but the borders would deem it a 9 because it isn’t “perfect”. This is why I’m scared to send my cards I’ve actually pulled in to PSA. The inconsistency is insane and seems it’s a coin flip between 9 and 10 and depends on the humans mood you have to grade it. Good mood? Might bump up a 9 to a 10. Bad mood? Might bump a 10 down to a 9 or 8.
Holy moly dude, absolutely shocking! Without quality assurance systems, standards and inter-group testing, a company like PSA (and any other possible “grading” companies) can never be taken seriously. Without the before-mentioned systems, this is effectively the Wild West in terms of reliability. Does such a company ever even undergo an external audit?
Thank you for reinforcing my belief that grading is a huge scam. I've been collecting since the beginning and am proud to have never wasted my money on these fake services.
as for the pikachus, the left one looks clean, its not off center and looks clean, the right pikachu maybe a milimete off center but also looks clean, sure i do find 10s hard to swallow but it does make sense for them to be graded higher than the previous cards. all cards look clean, but all the previous cards have glaring off center mistakes noticeably so.

Dude if you don't call your misses 'dude' then you're not comfortable enough. Dude ain't gender specific lol.
I also call my sister "bro" all the time
Shows you were right mate! Congrats on the regrade!
I used PSA for the first time last week. As soon as I got the email about the grades I checked it. It came back a VG 3. Similar scenario as you. I examined the card pretty throughly and didn't find much damage. There was slight wear on the top, and thats about it. No way that card deserves a 3!
I am having a similar issue! They asked me for photos from before submission and it sucks because I don't have any.
Its about the print and other shit. You can see here that this Alakazam is not printed centered, the borders of a card are not even.
I have a Manga Gear 5 Luffy that will sit there until the end of time, unless i can find a respected grading company that can grade in front of me..
i thought it was known that you just have to keep trying until you get a grader who will give it a good score
Card Grading Is A Scam....
Psa cut the corners of the first card they ever graded
I belive it can be. But honestly what do they base it on. What's it's parameters? Everybody is different.
@@jasonsimpkins9069 if it's centered and the condition obviously
@RELGRAX did you check the corners the edges the back the surface??
They 100% need to submit a report on each card explaining their reasoning for the grade.

@David-If7ue poor Amy just wanted some salt...
No shot I got my first ever PSA ad when I clicked on this video lmao
"PSA, we set the standard" 😂
Your genuine happy meltdown was amazing 😂😂😂❤
There needs to be a standard certificate like GIA stones, with criteria that it needs to meet & written on the certificate where it didnt meet the standards for the individual card, with a database for ease of access & with the graders' initial or identification number.
Dude I just had the same thing happen to my 151 mew two card...sent it back ....went from 5 to 9.5... I know the centering was off abit...but I knew it was capable of a 9 at least... good video man!
Bulls*it - You cannot get a 9.5 as a grade from PSA.
@@TheRealJohnHamp wasnt psa, I live in china they have different grade companies in Asia. breath lmao ...a comment I made 10 months ago 😂😂 this video made me re send my cards again...thats all. IT WAS 9.5 I got back on returns ...would like me to send you photos for evidence random person on the internet
Whats the cert number? Let us take a look and see if the card is in the condition you say it is
All PSA has to do is remove the human grading aspect.
That company would would be a massive success.
same happened to my scream pika. it got a psa 5 and i sold it, the guy who bought it cracked it out and it came back psa 10
pretty unhappy with PSA
thats why i go with CGC now
That's fking wild bro...
My first ever PSA submission came back the other day and im disappointed and feel cheated. Two psa4's, a 5 and a 7 that i feel are unjustified. PSA with new owners and AI grading sucks.
Is the only way to re-grade via the 'crossover' service that costs £50?
You always need to put a 100 dollar bill with the cards so you get a 10😂
Thank PSA for not giving 8s the first round. You probably wouldn't have re-sumitted.
Love the behind the scenes content lmao keeping it real
I've seen psa grade 10 on cards that was horrendous borders on the back. Like wut.
Coming back to this video after I did the same thing! Originally had the Pikachu come back a PSA 6 and I called BS. Had it regraded and came back a PSA 10 today
Did you send a note or anything to PSA? Or just sent it in for regrading?
@@andrewblazensky5192 I broke the slab gently (nerve recking process) and just sent it in as a “new” grade. I’m sure any PSA 7 below of these cards are actually 10 but now probably gonna be POP controlled due to their value
You should change to beckett or cgc!
Thanks for warning us!
Worth my subscription if you ask me!
Fool: Oh hell no, my cards are a god damn 10. I'm sending them back.
Psa: thanks for paying again. Ok you can have a 10.
I never re-grade
If that pikachu 9 was centered a bit better left/right I am sure ya woulda got two 10s. Grats.
How much these cards worth?
1:45 That card you just showed had an offset in the printing. Which makes it grade lower, AFAIK.
I joined this video when you were at 999 subs, so i decided to give you that 1 extra sub push!
This was a great, quick, informative video. Thank you! Now, enjoy those 1k sub bonuses! ;)
Honestly homie. This short video educated me so much on how I will proceed with my collections moving forward
Edit: your wife is so cool
This is horrible. I am sure this has happened to a lot of other people, they should absolutely be held accountable. PSA going down drain, will never sub with them after seeing this SGC is the only way from now on.
This aged very poorly.
I would never let PSA grade my cards bc of the following reasons:
1. The case is cheap plastic and they put in the card without sleeve
2. A 10 is the rule, lower grades the exception. It should be the opposite. Therefore a PSA 10 is likely not really a 10. I saw PSA 10 cards with printlines and whitening
3. No subgrades and intransparent grading process
I use AOG for grading and I've sent in a lot of cards.
PSA is just a scam. They laugh their ass off making money off of dumb people
@juto8809 They know the youtubers get views and do that to make people believe they'll get 10's if they send in there cards. They are trying to keep the 10's population low and valuable.
Bought a couple of PSA graded crochet cards graded at a 9 and they all have white patches around the corners, could have been the seller but the case didn't look tampered with.
This video is going to break the internet
Any trade by evolution cards are hard to grade due a crease that most of those cards have. They arrived via mail with a clip that held them or something along those lines. That's where that mark/crease comes from, and most of those cards have it.
I would send those Gengars and the Alakazam to Beckett and see what you get. PSA just proved everything with those two Pikachu cards..
I've seen cards folded, ripped in half, water damage, scrunched up, corners missing, get 5s.. So they are 100% grading unfairly.. I'm wondering if they are different people rather than a process..
I've seen a folded charizard on the middle get an 8, so yeah you are completely right!
can we all just agree no matter how effed up it is but people can and WILL hate on you for no reason. who knows what the cause could be. the grader might not like the cards you sent in maybe you have the same name as the graders childhood bully. maybe the grader was having a bad day. yes its wrong but people do it and theres nothing you can do about it.
I love how he's so excited that he goes to tell his girlfriend and she's just as excited.
I know we're here to shit on PSA, but this actually makes the video wholesome.
Pokétubers grading his cards with PSA: at least 9-10 range
Normal people granding his cards: This couldn't be more then a 6..
the fact he went to his wife and she cares is awesome
The way he called his partner dude was so romantic 🥰😂
Grading is up to the graders personal experience and interpretation I think with the amount of money on these graded cards, they need 5 people giving different grades and it should be averaged from the 5, that way if someone gives you a 5 or 6 again it won't affect the total very badly
OMFG!!!!! They NEED to train those people at PSA! Also that’s probably the difference between graded by eye and by a bot 🤖
I know people have Hype with PSA but this Is why I grade with Beckett, especially cool when you get that black label pristine 10
When 1 company is in control, they control the market. Does BlackRock own PSA too??? 😂
I have a PSA 4 that looks nearly flawless… I’ve definitely thought of cracking it and submitting for a better grade… Wild!
Also I recommend HGA grading they always do a great job for me, I think they'll be the future in card grading .
I feel automated grading is definitely gonna be the best way to grade going forward, takes away the human bias and error.
They really have automated grading?
@@DT_123 yes there is a grading company called “AGS” (Automated Grading Services)
Card grading is a scam, it's good that more and more people are realizing this
I wouldn't say it is a scam, but once shit like this starts happening people should stop trusting this particular grading company, as long as people keep using it they earn more money when they resubmit, Something that got a 5 should be able to get +/- 1 so 4-6 on 2nd grading, cards going from a 5(for most cards = basically worthless) to 9/10 is a problem.
DONT USE PSA
Your reaction is gold XD, love the video
Sadly it don’t matter. PSA can do as they please and the ignorant general public still swears by them . U can see so many 10s that are no way 10s . Then they grade trimmed cards and reject pack pulled for trimming. Card grading is the biggest sham ( but oh so genius) of all time
The wife deserves an Oscar! 10/10 lover her reaction is just exquisite. 😂😂
I have an Entei PSA 6. The QR code photo shows a completely different card which has a big gouge out of the "p" on the back of the card.
I got a PSA 10 for my Glaceon VMAX alt art when it can be clearly seen as off-centered (heavy-left). But, I am super happy about my grade though! 😊
2 years later, nothing has changed 😂.
I imagine with the volume they get these days, this monday morning/ friday afternoon grades might be a little arbitrary.
Dude makes a whole point of them not grading correctly but still is hyped about the 10s
I sent a shadowless charizard in once and I was heartbroken for it to get a 6. It is darn near perfect to me. Might be time to crack the case.
the amount of anger mixed with disbelief and frustration has me rolling
Do they just gamble who gets the 10’s because i have a off center card as a 10
