    Yes, I have used that method! I am really particular about my white shirts! I also found that if I wash my neck again immediately before putting on a new shirt and changing it after a few hours, and/ or re-washing the neck, this procedure will also help! You wake up and shower - but by the time you finish breakfast that is enough time for some accumulation! So, wash neck IMME DIATELY BEEFORE DONNING THE WHITE SHIRT! 😊👍

    From Japan, I first learned ring means dirt. In first grade English achievement test by Japanese Government has the expression "I often see a ring around your collar on your clean shirts." What does the word,ring, means? I looked up the meaning, ring, using the famous English-Japanese dictionary, but there was not the expected mean,which is dirt or stain.... I am lucky to see and hit your you-tube. Thank you for your video.

    FINALLY!!!! A Channel that doesn't advertise brand. Yeah, 've used the dish detergent before as well, and I was surprised to find that it actually works better than most products sold for this purpose.
    The question is: Does the detergent harm the fabric?

    • @JudiintheKitchen
      @JudiintheKitchen  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well that's a great question. I'm assuming it doesn't harm the fabric, but...if you're using it on something really delicate (ie silk), I would think the scrubbing action would harm the fabric probably more than the dish detergent. If in doubt, try using just a small amount of detergent and scrub gently. With all that being said, I haven't had any issues using this procedure on my husband's shirts, usually made of cotton or a polyester/cotton blend. I hope this helps! (Thanks for the comment about no brands being emphasized. I DO try to avoid promoting any specific brands) :)

    I couldn't sleep last night. I was ironing my clothes I saw that I have a white polo shirt far back hanging up. I saw the dirt around my collar. Follow your steps. Remind you my collar shirt is dirty I mean dirty dirty... I did add the dollar store degreaser product with dishwasher liquor in small container.. I scrub several time... At first I look at shirt and I see the stain is still there right however when I place my shirt inside the washer machine. I see a clean shirt like it's brand new again. I almost threw my shirt away. Thanks for video, it's a nice polo shirt...

    Thanks Judi! I will have to try this. Even the local dry cleaners haven't been able to get these faint brown collar stains off my shirt. My only concern is long term damage to the fabric especially a softer poly-blend NON-IRON shirt. I shocked that shirt makers haven't come up with a stain resistant collar.

    • @JudiintheKitchen
      @JudiintheKitchen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rick! It was not a new shirt, but did have neck stains on it. However, this should work on a heavily stained shirt too. It may take a couple treatments. For REALLY tough stains, another viewer suggested automotive mechanics hand cleaner instead of dish washing detergent. For him, that was the best cleaner for his shirts. You may want to give that a try! Thanks for watching and sharing :)

    This worked great 👍. Some tips to others: it's actually easier than the vid. If you don't have workman type neck stained shirts I recommend starting with less detergent esp if a nice shirt. let the water you dipped toothbrush into do most of the surfacant work. So less soap, less scrubbing action, more water dips.
    Also I only used a sponge after as shirt was already clean except for this issue. Only prob there is left behind the -dare I call the brand out- Palmolive slight smell. So a wash prob would remove that or maybe after drying so she on target: washing better to fully remove soap but I did like 10 iron req. shirts so no way I'm rewashing all lol
    Bottom line start with less of everything imo as you can always do more. Ps longer u let it set after scrub prob more it penertates. Just be careful on really nice shirts. Thx for his great and true vid!

    Is the ring on the collar worse depending on the colour of your skin?

    • @JudiintheKitchen
      @JudiintheKitchen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! That's an excellent question and one I can only give my opinion on. I can only speculate that dirt is dirt and body grime is the same no matter what tone the skin is. Skin cells should easily come off in the wash, so as far as I'm concerned, it shouldn't matter what color the skin is as opposed to the depth of ring around the collar. Give it a try and test it for yourself! Hopefully it will work for you. Thanks for watching and asking. Best wishes to you :)

    Can I leave the dish detergent on the shirts overnight before the wash?

    • @JudiintheKitchen
      @JudiintheKitchen  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's an excellent question! I have not done that, so I can't speak from first-hand experience. I can assume that it's OK AS LONG AS the dish detergent is clear and has no color additives in it. I don't know if the color agent would stain the shirt if left on so long, especially if it were to dry overnight. It's better to be safe on this one rather than lose a shirt. A clear detergent wouldn't pose that risk, even if it did dry. Another way might be to follow the procedure by scrubbing the shirt with the detergent and toothbrush, then adding the shirt to a tub of water to soak overnight. With the added water to a small amount of detergent, there would be far less risk of staining the shirt with any coloring agent in the soap. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching and asking :)

    I'm curious if this works on t-shirts. I have a light blue shirt I wanna try this on because the entire neck line went yellow just recently. I think its caused by my lotions and body sprays but its so annoying. I had to throw away a lot of white t-shirts due to this problem. I have pretty much stopped buying white shirts.

    • @JudiintheKitchen
      @JudiintheKitchen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I certainly hope it works for you! If the shirts have been laundered and machine dried, the stain may have been "set" in the fabric if it was actually from lotions (from any oils in them). That's a "maybe." It's worth a try, though. I hope it works. Thanks for watching and sharing :)

    • @JudiintheKitchen
      @JudiintheKitchen  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Danny! No, you don't need to cover your shirt labels. I did that because I'm not supposed to "promote" any specific brands on TH-cam. I covered the label so viewers would not see the brand :) So, no harm done in also cleaning the label! Thanks for asking.

    Does the stain appear gone before you put it in the washing machine or not until after? I ask because I’m scrubbing and not seeing anything come off at this point. Thank you!

    • @JudiintheKitchen
      @JudiintheKitchen  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      At 3:16 I mentioned what you're talking about...if you don't see anything coming off with scrubbing, let it sit for a little while before washing the shirt with your regular laundry detergent. If that doesn't take it out, you might want to try a different dish detergent...one that has a stronger action for grease-cutting. Dawn Platinum Power Clean might be one to try...it's advertised for its grease-cutting ability (I'm not affiliated with that company whatsoever). I hope this helps!

    Do you have any idea how to remove stains from a white polo?

    • @JudiintheKitchen
      @JudiintheKitchen  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you're referring to body oil stains on the collar of a white polo shirt...I would try the same tactic as in the video. Just be careful about scrubbing on a knit fabric. Use a very soft, flexible brush if you can find one that is softer than a tooth brush. If using a tooth brush, just scrub gently so you don't damage the fabric.

  • @adrianaguerra8184

    Does the toothbrush damage the material??

    • @JudiintheKitchen
      @JudiintheKitchen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a great question. If you're washing a delicate fabric, then there is a possibility if you're not careful and scrub lightly with a soft brush. I was scrubbing my husband's dress shirts, which are usually a polyester/cotton blend (usually 80/20%). That fabric can take a scrubbing with pretty much any toothbrush. But even with that I wouldn't scrub with all your might. Gentle scrubbing will do the job. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching and asking :)

    • @JudiintheKitchen
      @JudiintheKitchen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could try it, but just rub gently and use the dish detergent sparingly (with cold water, not hot). This is because I don't know how "colorfast" the shirt is and don't want you to take out a lot of the color on the collar. Thanks for watching :)

      Hi! I'm guessing that "vim" dish liquid is a specific brand? As far as I'm concerned, any brand will do. Just use a little with some water and scrub gently on the dark shirt with an old toothbrush or something like that. It should take it out. Then launder it as usual. Thanks for watching!
