Quiet enjoyable series but id really appreciate the casters to activate show lifebars when damaged like it is in wcs. Maybe its just me but i think the lifebars give u a much better view over the situation each of the players are in during the fights.
I am sooooooo confused about game 1. What is this two base super fast roach speed but never attack into hydra into super uber ultra late third build? And why? It just looked like to me Rogue loses because he delay his third and stay on 50 drones too long for no reason. I would really appreciate if caster can explain some thought process behind build orders and not be like “oh look the zerg is behind 50 supply and I wonder why”
Rogue wanted to do a fast roach build, but the adept timing attack ruined the chances of having a meaningful roach attack coming out in time for that. Then the double stargate ruined his play further and pinned him back, where at first he wanted to probably go roach->into swarm hosts, and skip the hydras. Except, because of double stargate, he had to then get hydras, which threw his whole game off on a bad foot. IE: He got blind hard-countered in the build order chain. It can happen to the best of them. But just holding off the adept push at the start with faaar more acceptable losses might still turn that around for the roaches to work early. But as it was, the adepts accomplished too much.
To be fair, Neeb does historically do far better at PvZ than PvT. But it used to be PvP > PvZ > PvT for him, where his PvP in the meta a few years back landed him like Ro8 in GSL iirc too, but since meta changes - I think he might actually be better at PvZ now over PvP, not sure. Either way, I don't think there is much arguing that Neeb would still normally be worse at PvT. Keep in mind these are still pro gamers, so necessarily being bad at a match-up, should make you still a damn good player, that might still take a series off of someone if they aren't careful; it is just the averages vs pros. Also, in some of the counters that happened here, Neeb did catch a bit of luck in this series for having just the right answers at the right time - and that hard blind counter to Rogue in game 1 when it was broken down to the decision making and how it happened, was just really, really bad luck for Rogue. Wanted to build up to that speed roach fast timing push on 2 bases? Hit by adepts first in their own timing attack that caused too much damage to really have an effective counter-attack at that point right then. Then double-stargate not only kept him back - but forced him to build hydras that he probably never intended to do over swarm hosts... And then it just went even more downhill from there. Game 1 wasn't Neeb being GOSU, or Rogue being terrible at making decisions... More just a bad luck loss that because of the early game decisions of each snowballed in Neebs favor because the rock-paper-scissors build order of timing attacks and mid-game composition.
Because Maru is the best Terran in the world and perhaps the best player currently. Rogue has drop off and isn't that good. Serral has replace him as best Zerg in the world and perhaps has a case to be best player in the world too.
Serral is clearly stronger, but to be clear: Neeb has been on the forefront of the best of nonkoreans for about what, three years running now? Since at least winning the kespa cup in 2016, the first foreigner to win a major in korea (note, major, not premiere tournament), it was quite impressive. Then what, now two different gsl top 8 appearances, where this year he made it to the semis in one gsl season? If you were going to take serral out of history and ask which the best foreigner is in the last 8 years, i would probably say Neeb overall, hands down. That still says something. This match seemed arranged, Rogue played like a platinum noob. Think every game he lost were fucking weird. 2base swarm hosts and he threw the swarms right into the entrance. He could have used them for harassing Neeb’s base. And the last game, what a shame. He constantly wasted rings and until he took the 5th base there were nothing else except one fucking Ultrarisk only rings.
