When he started singing I immediately thought of the Rock band WARMEN (Yes i know its Rockwell, but screw that. I was rocking out to the WARMEN version in my head).
When I could get a substitute I thanked them to the skies. (My subs were often taken for other classrooms so it was a roll of the dice if I got a sub or not.) Starbucks gift cards, thank you notes for taking the class... Couldn't do enough for them. Tough, tough job. Most of my subs were great. Having to emergency sub for others myself gave me a rich appreciation for what they have to do.

Parents should be required to sub five days out of every school year until all of their children graduate. Teachers should have to sub for another teacher in their district twice each semester. All other citizens should be required to help out at schools. The support list would include: Teacher Helper-monitor students while teachers takes a bathroom break. Make copies while teacher has a lunch break. Sharpen ten pencils for every student a teacher has. Prep the room during the teachers conference time. Cafeteria Helper-Monitor students and make sure tables are cleared and ready for the next class or group. Assist younger students with opening condiment packets. Follow the head custodian’s directives for proper cleanup procedures. Maintain order and noise level without using a loud voice. Arrival/Dismissal duty- Work with campus staff to get students in and out of the building safely and efficiently within 5-10 minutes. This includes car duty, school bus duty, walker duty, day care duty(for younger students),
