      @JohnsonsSmallEngines mine is a dls 3500 but you gave me the basic understanding. Thanks man. I gotta replace the right side housing that spins the blade. I think it is bogging it down and stopping it. What do you think? I push the engagement and it kills the engine.

      @JohnsonsSmallEngines so do a full tune-up and replace belts crank the motor put it in gear and the belt starts smoking this is the transaxle drive belt not the deck belt....Any help???

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If it was fine before you change the transmission dry belt then obviously it was something you did wrong. Impossible to tell you what went wrong. I can say that getting the incorrect belt happens a lot but normally you would not get smoke. I would say it’s probably jammed up somewhere and if you already put the mower deck on lesson learned. Never put the deck back on until the transmission has been tested, I’m sure you’ll find out exactly what happened when you look at it. Check your idler pulleys to make sure they’re not seized. Make sure all belt guides are correct. Etc.

    • @SteelDividers
      @SteelDividers 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @JohnsonsSmallEngines when I would put it into gear before, it was smoking , so the belt broke ....that is why I replaced it .... the belt is very old and never replaced by me personally ...(4 days ago actually cut grass with it )...then the belt broke ....yesterday...lol.... so I replaced the belt yesterday and it seems to be locking up today... PTO pulley at motor Maybe???

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If you’re working on the exact same model? That is in the video. You may have a condition where the brakes are locking up not allowing to transmission to turn. Is yours a five speed manual transmission? or six speed as long as it’s not a Hydro transmission then you are working on this model. Watch these two videos, they may help. th-cam.com/video/KaKABxjLnA4/w-d-xo.html. and th-cam.com/video/tZhSoeEQfGM/w-d-xo.html.

With this video I was able to remove the deck (so a trained repair person could fix it), and then put it back once the problem was resolved. Most of the time it is worn out bulb where the lead is at the tip of f the bulb due to vibration. I would try new bulbs first. They should be 1157 on the machine in the video. If that doesn’t work. Next you will need a volt meter. Check power at the plug near frame where it connects at the hood. You may need the engine running to check or switch in the on position or both. If you have 12volts when switch is on most likely the bulbs are bad. If you do not have voltage, you would need to trace wiring back to find the issue.

      @@JohnsonsSmallEngines the weirdest thing, my prop belt otherwise known as the deck belt broke ( primary mower belt ) I looked on the hood compartment and has part number 144959 when I look it up the belt should be 1/2” X 95 1/2”
      I went to a local Lowes
      They had a big selection of belts, but every one of the belts of the number that my machine took, we’re not what was in the package. Basically it looked like the whole store had been ransacked and belts were changed, so I had to go with the closest to my original belt that I could find , same V thickness and same length
      I was thinking maybe the deck was changed but I just measured it up with the old belt that was on the machine and I took that belt and put it on and it seems to be working OK

    Maybe you can help me with another problem . . . . I recently replaced the carburetor on a Craftsman LT 1000. Now it starts right up, definitely has power, only one problem and that is that the engine "races." I guess that is how to best describe it . . . accelerates a little bit, decelerates a little bit, maybe oscillating might be a better description, anyway.... any suggestions? I have not adjusted anything on the carburetor .... many thanx!!

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds like it’s running lean. Meaning not getting enough gas. Does it hunt and surge at idle? Is the cart aftermarket?? Because if it is, most are junk. I have tried a few but haven’t had much luck.

    • @rvalens2
      @rvalens2 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adjust the air/fuel mixture on the carburetor, it's running too lean. Clockwise gives it more gas, counter-clockwise leans it out. After you have done that, adjust the idle. If you don't know how, there are plenty of videos on TH-cam that show to do it. It also helps if you install a better brand of carburetor. I prefer Walbro over the Nikki carbs. FYI, a lot of the aftermarket carbs are garbage. I would only order those that get high marks on Amazon.
