    I just released another video about this Tailor's Clapper on my channel. After making this first video almost 3 years ago, I've made close to 50 of these Tailor's Clappers now so I thought it might be a good time to revisit this tool. If you want to check out that updated video then I've got it linked here: th-cam.com/video/GaKsY7TUrU4/w-d-xo.html
    And if you're interested in adding one of these clappers to your sewing room then I have them available for purchase on my website here: www.rustydogandco.com/shop/p/tailors-clapper

    Being Italian, and having my dad's best friend being a tailor, I do know what this is. He was a master at his craft and being able to say I had a tailor in highschool was pimp, he was like my uncle, he played it up for me to when I'd bring friends and people around too. This brought me back, entertained with a side of nostalgia!

      Haha yes I had no clue myself until my mother in law mentioned it to me. I’ve since made her another one out of walnut and she really enjoys using it! I’m glad the video helped you out. Thanks for watching! ☺️

    Idea for a follow up video: makind a tailor's board next! It has multiple different shapes that are also super useful for ironing!

      This was another thing I had never heard of before so I had to look it up. Looks interesting! I might just have to build one. Thanks for the idea! 😊

    You have created a beautiful & useful product and an excellent video, which is clear, concise, and totally informative. LOVE that a young woman has so much talent with wood. Most of the equipment you are using would be tools and supplies readily on hand in a wood shop. Someone interested might be able to find a neighbor, friend, or relative who would gladly share. One caution when making these -- need to avoid any species of wood that might "bleed" in the presence of heat and moisture. Also, add one additional step: spritz the finished clapper, let dry, and give it one more sanding. This technique will help prevent a raise grain during use.

      Thank you so much! I appreciate the kind words as well as the advice. I have since made some more of these and used wood that had a tighter grain and made sure to implement the “water popping” method as well. It made a big difference. Thanks for watching! 😊

    I just started making these for my own mother in law. They are a big hit with her quilting group. I’ve been using scrap exotic woods like ebony and padauk in between maple and walnut ti fancy them up a little! Leaving the wood naked gives me anxiety though! 😂

    • @rustydogandco
      @rustydogandco  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh I bet those look nice! I have since made a couple walnut ones since posting this video and they turned out really nice. I know what you’re saying about not using finish…it kind of goes against everything you normally do when working with wood haha.

      The wood being unfinished is very important to the usage as a clapper, as it's meant to absorb steam and heat as well :)

    What size router bit did you use for the handhold?

    • @rustydogandco
      @rustydogandco  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can’t remember the exact bit I used in this video but I just made another video on my channel about the tailors clapper and for that I used a 1/4" Radius Dish Carving Bit with 1/2" shank, 1-1/8" overall diameter from Freud.

    So all I need to make one for myself is a planer, table saw, joiner, miter saw, band saw, power sander, plunge router, palm router ?

    • @rustydogandco
      @rustydogandco  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Despite what you might think it does take some tools to make things. However there are many ways to do the same thing so I’m sure if you wanted to make something with what you have then you could figure out an alternative way. Just demonstrating one way to do it.

      You really do not have to have all these wonderful tools to make this type of product, although it does make it easier. If you get a piece of wood the 12x3x2.5", then if you get a jig saw you can round the ends. As to the grab sides those could also be made with a couple wood chiseles and hammer. Also using several grades of sandpaper. So you may spend longer time you can still make this. I appreciate the fact I do have the tools to make it quicker. I still appreciate watching the video and also the suggested comment to spritz the wood and sand one last time. Thank you! Carla
