      Same.. I actually bought a small doner rotisserie but it was too expensive to fill it, and too large to realistically use to get the recipe right for me personally :D
      Ended up selling it again, and I'm still not completely sure I won't do it again. :/ I miss them that much. Gyros aren't right.

      This is nothing to do with döner man. You guys learn the word ''döner'' from turks and using it everywhere LOL Döner means ''it rotates, spins, turns'' in Turkish which is compressed spicy meats cooked during spinning slowly like in this pic (its not mince):
      www.featurepics.com/online/Doner-Kebab-1883550.aspx
      they cut from it to a plate, bread, or lavash . if you put it in a burger bread its a weird cultural synthesis called ''döner burger''
      You can buy chicken ,beef döner prepared but fresh from restaurant is better.:
      www.google.com/search?q=d%C3%B6ner+200+gram&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiFxdnQlbbfAhVlkIsKHUFiAwYQ_AUIDigB&biw=1920&bih=948#imgrc=iWWbF-L4Us-jRM:
      and this is what real döner burger looks like :
      www.google.com/search?q=d%C3%B6ner+burger&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj96O_rl7bfAhWptIsKHQV-AxIQ_AUIDigB&biw=1920&bih=948

    The butcher's lamb was fresh and red, flecked with fat; the supermarket product looked like it had been over-processed, with extra fat included. In our 'high-income' county (Albemarle, VA USA), the high end supermarkets include a specialty butcher shop along with the standard cold cases of product. Stand-alone craft butchers have a difficult go of things, economics wise. That doner kebab and bun looked fantastic! Too bad you didn't have an icy British gin waiting to squeeze the cucumber juice into! That makes a 'different' Martini.

    Local butchers are better if not more than supermarket meat, anyone going to NZ for a holiday go to the local butchers not the supermarket, actually the supermarket imports semifrost pork etc so check packaging, make sure it is locally sourced. We have nice Wagyu etc here too but you wont find that at the supermarket however any butcher can order that in for you, if not do it yourself online sales.

    Bit of misinformation there, unintentional I’m sure but you actually get 500g of lamb mince for £4 not the 400g stated...so better value than suggested. My local butcher...of which there is only one is most certainly not cheaper....and parking is a ball ache. As much as I’d love to support my local butcher I simply cannot afford to so I only got there when I need to get something the supermarkets don’t sell.

    Even if a butcher was more expensive (and let’s face it, they often are) there is the difference in quality. And not just taste wise. When you throw some supermarket meat in the pan, it literally seems to disappear in a puddle of “juice”. While quality meat is much more easy to sear and get some colour on it.

    The word "Döner" comes from the word "dönmek", which means "to spin" or "to turn". We use "Döner" to describe the dish that is also known as "gyros" beacuse it turns around slowly next to a fire source.

    They kill me here in Turkey when I talk about Greek yoghurt. It's Turkish yoghurt according to them lol (The Greek stole it from them just like the Dutch stole their tulips). Also the Turkish Doner Kebab is usually made from beef here in Ankara. Looking forward to surprise my Turkish friends here with this burger ;)

      You know "yoğurt", the word, is Turkish right? So it is probably a Turkish invention, also Greek yoğurt and Turkish yoğurt have different textures and tastes, so I dont get why they get mad over Greek yoğurt. Greek yoğurt is perfect for sauces and tzatziki ofc.

    • @MrYukon2010
      @MrYukon2010 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know, just telling how the Turkish react to it. I often told my Turkish friends I don't care about it but apperantly it's a sensitive thing here. Took me a while to notice that they consider it part of their heritage (both yogurth and tulips). Personally I don't have an opinion whether it's right or not because it's not important to me. I prefer Greek yoghurt myself but a) impossible to buy here and b) when you ask for it the are (very) offended.

      I 'suspect' it has a lot to do with an excessive amount of patriotism (and that's as far as I go on internet to try explain Turkish nature). A lot of things here are impossible to understand when seen from a more Western point of view. I live here now for over 3 years and am still flabbergasted by some attitudes. I guess I'll never get used to it.
