Imma 43 year old woman who knows very little about car repairs. I just replaced my belt thanks to you...the last one cost me 700 bucks... it was only 66 for my belt and tool and tool attachment!! even tho i feel its the bearing causing my overall issue you just gave me a lil hope!! Thank yu so much!! Keep posting you have no clue how much you have been a blessing brother , keep on keeping on!!
Thanks for the excellent and clear instructions. I just replaced the belt on my wife's ML350 in about 10 minutes. I do have one issue however...I'm really annoyed at how easy this was as I've probably paid mechanics dozens of times over the years $200 to do this repair which was easier and faster than an oil change. :-) Thanks again! Well done, particularly showing the drawing. I did that first and it gave me confidence that I'd do it correctly.
Glad it helped. Did those mechanics change any of the pulleys or tensioner? If they did then yeah it could cost what you paid. If they changed just the belt then ouch!
Thanks A Bunch Keith!! Was out of town on vacation when the idler pulley seized up & shredded my belt... with your video and advanced auto, got it back on the road within 3 hours!
You saved me bro!! My belt broke just as I was pulling into the University of South Florida campus (USF). I’m a cancer patient that gets treatment at Moffitt Cancer Center located on the USF campus in Tampa, FL. I drove all the way from Orlando (on I4 - nightmare interstate) and was super lucky to break down in the campus parking lot and not on the interstate. Thanks to your video, I knew I would be able to repair it myself (after finishing my appointments of course). I got lucky again when a university employee, Fran, gave me a ride to the auto part store where I bought not just the belt, but the 17mm socket (thanks to your video) as well. I also had to buy one of the pulleys because it was totally destroyed and responsible for the belt breakage. But it was your video that let me know that I could fix it myself. You saved me hundreds of dollars - between a tow and what I’m sure would have been an overpriced repair shop bill. I always have my tools with me but I didn’t this time because I let a friend borrow the car earlier to help them move and took them out to make space and forgot to put them back in (of course). But like I said, I only had to buy the 17mm socket & not a whole set (I did have to buy a ratchet). And I did have to buy an E-Torx set to remove the torx bit on the pulley I had to replace cause they don’t sell individual E-Torx sockets. Any way - SUCCESS SUCCESS SUCCESS THANKS TO YOU AND FRAN!! 🎉 🎊
Thanks for this video, Sir! My 2011 e350 4Matic is at the dealership as I type, getting this job done. Your video has already saved me $100s of dollars as I was able to tell the service sales guy exactly what needed to be done. 10-15 minute job at the most. They were gonna hit me hard with the labor cost of course. Hopefully only the belt needs changing. Thank you!
Man, really thanks for save my day! I have W168 V8 model car and sometimes its difficult find a useful tip like this. Its a very good car...but you need have dedication to take care him!
Thanks for the video that belt actually popped in my Ml350 I will not be able to fix this but I will be able to get someone to fix it as if I go to MB it will cost a arm & leg & I am reading what people wrote it only took them 10 minutes..thanks alot very informative
Thanks for the video. I need to change my own belt now, because my mechanic is too much of a prima dona, and says he does not like diesel powered ML's.
Secret to test the bearings first. Shoot each idler with a temperature gun, write down results, let it run for twenty to thirty minutes, test temperature again and if one or more is excessively high.
Best video my car would not start so lifted the hood only to see the serpentine belt completely shredded and not on the pulleys the idler pulley completely locked up, never done this job but gonna try on my 2011 e350 thanks
Nice video man. Thanks a lot. I thought was going to be more difficult so I’ll do myself on my jeep commander. You saved me lot of money for sure. Greetings from Spain!
Thank you sir for this video. It gave me the courage to change mine on my 2008 ML350. But when I finished, I noticed that the belt over the tensioner pulley has an overhang of about 1/8" over to the front of the engine. I did it couple of more times it's still the same overhang. The belt sits quite well on all other pulleys. Don't think it is normal. The old belt was ripped on the same edge, meaning there must have been some force against the flange of other pulley(s). Mind you, this happened after 8 years of driving! Any help would be much appreciated.
Hey there how are you? I am a big follower for I own a 2007 Mercedes R350 and thought ill hit you up and see if you might know what the issue is. My yellow engine light came on yesterday and its the only car I have for the family so after googling it came up most posts its the EGR Valve so I went and purchased a fuel system cleaner for injectors, valves, etc and took it for a good drive and the light is still on? Any ideas if it might be that still or might be something else?
If it wobbles ever so slightly; it can eat away at the belt over time. If the pulley has any sharp edges that touches the belt, or the pully is misaligned it will eat the belt. Sometimes the belt is just a cheap knock off.
Was idler pulley bad only and not other pulleys like serpentine idler pulley? How do you know which pulleys or tensioner is bad? Thanks. And where r u located?
Two simple ways to figure out which pulley chewed the belt: 1- spin it then listen for noise 2- side to side wobble play While the belt is out, check tensioner spring is still smooth. It's the one stressing everything belt related 👍🏻
Hey, thanks so much, I just searched for the "sound that I was hearing when I start to drive my 2004 Mercedes ml 350, what could it be" & found ur yt video. Thx ..not sure if that's the problem but it could be as I feel like I am hearing a loose belt or something? Pls let me know your thoughts
Hi Keith. Can you do a video on why the coolant level sensor constantly says the coolant level is LOW on a 2012 ML350?? Also, how to replace if necessary. PS. What's wrong with your idler pulley?
You couldn't name one single component !! "From alternator pulley to uhhh the far far pulley" .... every single pulley has a name and purpose, you're misinforming people and not educating anything or anyone by posting a video like this
Yes sir! Actually i see a lot of folks reaching out to me with pulley noises, other electrical issues after cleaning the engine compartment. Mostly liquid going where you don't want it

Could you show a video how to change cruise control speedtronic on ML350?
Very helpful Thank U so much! Can u tell me what would make a belt come off?
With age, the belt stretches, loses its strength and breaks down.
Awesome! You made a great video. Thank you. I had no problem understanding how change my belt after watching this.
Fantastic! Used your video to fix my wife’s 07 ML350. Great job.
Nothing better than saving some money and imposing the wife! 😏
Cheers bro. Gonna have a stab at this now as my belt has arrived :)
New follower. Very clean and easy to follow video. Own drawn diagram, brilliant.

very straight forward. I appreciate the info.
Glad to be a help to the Mercedes community
Thank you so much. My belt finally gave out and every shop tried to charge me a arm and leg to fix!
The serpentine belt is also known as the fan belt?
No fan belt in most Mercedes, they are electric
@@iRepairAutos I'm looking at a bely in my 2005 ml350 that is wearing out. It would be the serpentine belt I need to replace?
Is there a pin hole to keep the tensionner open
Yes
Thanks for all videos you been very helpful I saved lots of money thanks to you god bless 👍👍👍👍👍🇺🇸
Thanks for your channel ! How often this belt needs to be replaced ? How many years or miles between replacement?
Every 60,000 miles is the recommendation. Though I've seen original belts last longer.

Try isolating the noise by (with the engine off) take off the belt and spin each pulley manually by hand to isolate the noise.
@@iRepairAutos Ok I will, Thanks so much

Hey! Yes I'll do a video on that issue for you. The idler pulley is splitting in the center.
