This is a great overview. Thank you. The struggle with my team is consolidating and categorizing a myriad of misc. To-Do lists (to document small, incoming requests), general planning of both small and mid-size (multi-step) projects. I also have a need to maintain a high- level view across all of these (To-Do's, plans, tasks, etc.) I have high hopes we'll be able to finally consolidate that with this tool.

can't consider this as our main project management tool, at least not before they will add the baseline, cross-projects dependencies and the overall workload view cababilities
I'd love to see the cross-project dependencies in multiple plans, so I do hope we will see that. Also, they will offer a 30-day free trial of Planner Premium, so probably worth a go and see whether it works well 😀

Sadly, i am not sure on whether we can now limit who change the Task and its allocation but I suspect it may not be possible if it follows the old Planner (Group) security model of Owner / Member, but I think we will find out soon hopefully 😄

Yes, I wouldn't disagree with that - it's certainly a shift this year in 2023. to move into a 'Premium' product line, which attracts additional cost. It does seem very Apple-esque with it's movement to the 'Pro' line-up, with increased costs and better product capabilty.
This is great.. hopefully it has really tight integrations with Loop. Not a huge fan of the way loop creates separate task lists.. You should be able to.. when creating a task list in loop, link it to a planner without having to copy an existing planner link into a loop
I have noticed that the task lists Loop creates, will be appear in the Planner for Web (Tasks.office.com) as a stand alone Plan you can access and use in the normal way 😃
@@your365coach yes, true however that can quickly get disjointed if you use Teams meeting notes for tasks and have several meetings for a work stream. Unless there is a workaround?
I'd love to see custom templates that we could create ourselves, but right now, it seems that the😀 Preview videos would allow us to use pre-defined Templates but we shall see when it's released
I developed and used many Microsoft Project templates using Project 2007, Project Server 2007 and earlier Project versions. I wonder how I can keep those project templates. Should I use Project Professional 2021 or Project Planner Premium 2024?
How does it work if you decide to upgrade to premium - willit copy your project tasks across? I haven't seen that mentioned in any of their promo demos.
I’m unsure about that and if I guessed I’d assume you wouldn’t be able to upgrade an existing Simple Plan because it will need to use the Project for Web capabilities- but I could be wrong! I’d be interested in also understanding who needs to hold the licenses for Planner Premium, as I would guess everyone who uses a Premium Plan would need one but again we will wait and see 😃
@@your365coach with Project for the Web, you get Read Only access without a license, so maybe they'll carry that across. I think it would be a mistake not to. I also think they'll really have to have some sort of migration option to copy your tasks across if you upgrade to Premium or else it'll really discourage people from bothering!

No they aren't going to do that - Lists is always going to be separate option. Task lists are pretty powerful on their own (custom fields, automation options etc), so they really are a viable alternative to Planner in my opinion!
Thanks for the video. Do you know if it will have the functionality to duplicate a task which has been completed with a new due date? For instance, there is a task that needs to be completed every quarter within 15 days, as soon as the current one is completed, the one for the next quarter would be generated...

Thanks for your question and my thoughts would be that the new Planner will effectively continue the same experience for To Do and Planner, just under a new branding of Planner, and still at no cost. The new Planner Premium would be an additional product, to bring in the Project for Web Capabilities - which would integrate into Planner, but still would be separate and enabled when you selected a certain type of Plan to be created in Planner 😀
Hi Scott, I have a few questions: • Will the new planner have permissions similar to SharePoint such as: o Share task/projects etc with individuals rather than via a "teams’ group", (the individual(s) may or may not be part of the team's group but are within the organization) o Access level for individuals to be able to "view only", or "view, edit but not delete. • Will the new planner also have a recycle bin for the admin/full owner to access because the current planner does not have a recycle bin and if anything is deleted, it is not recoverable? • Is there a version control to go back to the previous version(s)?

after using the amazing Clickup for project management, Microsoft planner has long way to go. It's missing key feature such as templates , process automation, linkimg of multiple tasks and creation of your own different views for reporting. Complex projects has multiple stakeholders who has different reporting requirements which Clickup provides

I know what you mean! I think Planner Premium will likely approach this differently, as you can open a Teams Chat on any Task and then @ mention people within the Chat itself, so you can tag others that may be involved and keep it attached to the Task - However we will see more when it's released this year on that 😀

Sadly, it's not been shown. However, as Planner Premium is built on Project for the Web, I can't see why it wouldn't be supported as it's providing that feature set in Planner, but I guess we will need to wait and see in the Spring 😀

Great video Scott! Are there any indications of whether the new Planner Premium will also support Horizontal Swimlanes, in addition to vertical column Grouping, in the Board view? An example would be viewing Sprints in the vertical columns, while viewing tasks assigned to individual users broken out into different horizontal Swimlanes.

Hi Scott! Do you have any news about limits and boundaries and about backup? I have a client with the current version of Planner who exceeded all limits. 3000 tasks in one plan. Now they want to backup and start a new plan.

An important requirement to me is the possibility to open the plan created in MS project desktop, will this be possibile in the new planner? It will be also possible to get access the planner database by using Power Bi or other DB (MS access as well, that is very fast and easy to use)?
Sadly that’s not yet known, although as it’s using Project on the Web capabilities I doubt it will open in Project directly - but you never know, it may well do 😁 Hopefully we can answer more questions when it’s released in the Spring and focus on more of the changes and the benefits

How would you see security working in that scenario? I guess you'd only expect be able to see user tasks in the plans that you already have access to? So you wouldn't necessarily know if you have a complete overview of that users' tasks.

Sadly, I cannot be 100% as it is not available for us to play with, however the Planner Premium capabilities are taking the capabilities from Project on the Web, therefore I have high hopes that the elements you suggest are within Planner Premium, given it's underlying features.
Indeed, Planner Premium will be requiring an additional subscription, likely at $10 per user, per month - which aligns to the Project Web App Licensing that is currently required for these capabilities in Project on the Web.

Any idea if they'll have a decent template system? I'd love to be able to move a basic checklist for plan types into each plan of that type.

I don't think so, as the new Planner Premium is more around the integration of the Project Web App, which is not the full fledged Project App itself 😀
