PatrickRomSim thats because you didn't watch the entire video, in the video you can see how to reset your apple tv plus reset to factory settings, if its still not working.

The AirPlay icon does show up on my phone however only the remote icon for Apple TV shows up. The mirroring is not there. Only the audio works on my tv

Ok Its obviously a wifi problem at work, perhaps a restriction, etc. I took it home and it linked up as easy as my other one did. Thanks for the help. I have a feeling this is the same issue a few others have had in the questions below. Cheers.
yup. you are going to have to change some settings in your wifi router at work:
-Temporarily disable wireless encryption or security on the Wi-Fi router to rule out encryption issues.
-Verify that your Wi-Fi router is not using MAC address filtering or other security features that limit the number or types of devices that can connect to it.
If you need to add the MAC address to the access list for the Wi-Fi router, the MAC address is listed as the Wi-Fi address in Settings > General > About.
-Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware.
-Verify that your Wi-Fi router is not using security features that may restrict content or devices:
If your router has a built-in firewall, you may need to adjust your settings to provide access to common ports used for services. For more information, see Apple TV: TCP and UDP ports and protocols.
-If possible, connect using Ethernet and verify that you can play content. If you are able to successfully play content using Ethernet, verify your Apple TV is using the latest software by choosing Settings > General > Software Update.

Before I upgraded to El Capitan, I was able to work on my computer as I streamed a video on apple tv. Now, since I upgraded to El Capitan I am not able to do both. The "extend desktop" option is missing. Instead I have, "Use seperate display? but, I don't now how to use that either.
+mhyoung357 it must have changed by itself you can mirror or use separate display . you can change those settings in system preferences- displays . make the changes when you airplay

Ok, so we have to figure out if the problem are your files , itunes,or the Apple TV. So to test it out first, on your Mac just go to itunes and play the videos , see if they play full length. Next, if that's fine, test it out on an ipad iPhone, or iPod, go to videos and see if you are able to stream to the iPhone , iPod, or ipad, if that works fine than the problem is the Apple TV, . If that still doesn't work than it's the wifi router problem. Let me know the results so I can help you further
Okay I need help.. I want to connect my iPod 5 gen. With my Apple TV 2nd gen. I have AirPlay on my iPod, but it only gives me one option. Which is ipod touch. I tried everything. I have my home sharing on. I just can't get my apply TV to show up on AirPlay. My Apple TV doesn't show AirPlay either or idk. I'm just confused.

Thanks for a great video - It solved a few problems that I had. One last small problem: I have added lots of you tube videos to my favourites / playlists. When I go into my Apple TV - You Tube only some of the videos I've saved to favourites display? Why is this?
William Macaulay pobably just a glitch with the app. To get it working you can try resetting the app or the entire Apple TV. Almost make sure it's up to date.

miledias yo know. You can always take it to apple to see what's going on. Specially if it's less than a year. Or you could even scheduale a call with them. At no charge.

3rd gen works fine. I have tested myself just today with iOS 10.0.2 and Apple TV 3rd gen. MacBook is another story - it all depends on how old your Mac is. Just in case I wouldn't update to OS Sierra just yet. Too many problems
I'm already on OS Sierra, it's a late 2013 retina 15 MacBook pro. I don't plan on using it too much with the TV though. Mostly gonna use the iPad pro and iPhone 7 Plus to stream. I could do a slide show presentation with it right? Like with keynote?

Your streaming from your computer right? If you are, make sure the videos are mp4. If they are, than the cutting off and the the timing out is usually due to the internet speed. Have you tried , streaming to your iPhone ? In your iPhone just go to videos (the app) and you should see the itunes videos your have in your computer when in the same wifi network, see if they work there. This is just to test out if the problem is the internet ,router, or something else.
have to add this guys if you still can't get it to work on your tv make sure that apple tv is showing in the air display as i had mine on living room and it will not show on tv ones i change it took me 4 days to fegar out this Promlem got there at the end. you will not fine any thing like this on new tube. i hope it will help someone.

I also like to add that if you restore your iMac to a later date it will not work you need to restore the computer to its factory. That should fix it 100%

It use to work like a charm now it doesn't work at all on any of my devices and home sharing and everything is turned on. Everything is on the same WI FI network. Apple said it was a routing problem i had to jump though too many hoops to get it resolved it was getting too complicated i just ended up giving up. Hopefully apple updates it and resolves it since it was never a issue before. By reading these comments i am glad that it isn't just me who is having this issue seems like a bug this has been going on for sometime and still hasn't been a update to resolve this.

you can also, unplug your apple tv for at least 30 minutes, than plug back in. and try airplay. also, you could connect your apple tv directly with an ethernet cable to your router. thats usually fixes the problem

Make sure to be in same wifi, turn on. Bluetooth and update your Apple TV

Hi. C klampe here. Nothing worked. Took it back to apple store and exchanged it. Having same issues. Not sure if I am doing something wrong. Is it poss that the network I am on (wifi) won't support this? It's weird. When I go home, my airplay icon shoes up. At work I can access my iTunes but can't stream from my phone.
Christopher Klampe so, you are trying the same Apple TV at home and at work? And it's not working at work right?
In that case it's for sure the wifi network you have at work that is the problem. You will need to make some changes to your router at work

My problem here isn't any of this. I get to where I select my tv, I click the only tv option there and the one I want, then I swipe mirroring to the right. That where the problem is. Nothing happens. I swipe it and it kicks me back to AirPlay and where I selected the tv then when I select the tv that is right there I can see mirroring is already selected and it kicks me out right away again.

I use TH-cam on my iPhone 5s and hit Apple TV and normally the videos go to my tv and I can watch and listen. Now there is many song that just don't work. Nothing happens. Use to work great. iPhone option doesn't matter, iPhone option means that you don't want airplay anymore. If you want to play music than try select Apple TV, than in your iPhone play some music. Also update your iPhone and Apple TV Garrett Arreaga

I live in a apartment complex where everyone using the same wi-fi. have a macbook. My macbook gives me the option to connect “person’s A" air display. “Person’s A” air display does not show up as an option on my roommate’s macbook.

acguevara yeah its updated to latest software i use it to cast a lot of videos with airplay to my tv with the safari app and the google chrome app but since i updated to ios8.2 i cant airplay with the safari app on my iphone/ ipad. if i swipe up from the bottom i can see the apple tv icon but when i use airplay on the safari app it just doesnt play.

Hello! I can't connect with my computer, when i turn on the airplay on my imac (Late 2013 vers. 10.10.1) i cannot choose Mirror Imac, and only sound is playing, no image. I'm running in the same wifi as my mac and i have already tried to update everything , reset, change resolution etc, but nothing works.My cable is apple HDMI to HDMI and my apple tv is the latest model. On my iphone is working fine. What am I missing? Please could you help me?
David Morghetti sounds like a security problem,, .
Try turning off your firewall in your imac . And restart.
If that doesn't work , look into your routers security settings. Also make sure you are the administrator user in your imac.

David Morghetti also, have you tried home sharing, just go into itunes on your Mac and turn on home sharing, same in Apple TV. Let me know if you can play music or videos that you have on your Mac from your apple TV.

Yes, home sharing is turned on and i just tried, i can play songs from my library and see the picture album that i previously selected ! When i play a movie on my mac and turn on AirDisplay - apple tv i then i have sound and the tv goes black and no image

C Klampe so that's good news, your iPhone is not the problem, it can either be the Apple TV at your work or the wifi at your work.
So, first make sure your Apple TV at work is on the same wifi network as your iPhone, tuen on airplay in your Apple TV. Turn on wifi at work. And reset your Apple TV . If it's still not working after a full reset and making sure you are on the same wifi network, you have to take it back to apple and get a replacement

Thank you for stating the obvious, and at the end you tell me to restart Apple TV and modem. The reason I'm searching the Internet for solution is because I have tried all these things at first and didn't work. Sounds like my stupid ass telecom company.
gabanabeflosin so I guess you also restored your apple tv from the settings right ? if you did that than that will fix any software issues. If they problem is still there than you need to update. If after the update you still have problems, than you need to take it to apple because the problem is no longer software but hardware. So take it to apple if you tried all the options.

I can't sign into the TH-cam app on Apple TV. It just says something like this account is not useable. Does anyone know how to sign in on an Apple TV? I've tried everything even setup 2 step verification and that hasn't done anything.
RG7621 did you sign into iCloud without a problem?
Be sure if you have 2 step verification for google turned on that you create an app specific (in this case name it Apple TV) password from within your google account. Once you create that password, use that password to enter into TH-cam on Apple TV. I just had the same problem.
I got it fixed eventually. I had to permit apple TV to use my youtube account on my 'real name' channel we were all forced to get from google+ Permitting it on this channel did nothing. But since then they've updated apple TV. I'm glad I fixed it but hopefully now it's much easier.
youtube did make it difficult long time ago with the "real name " situation.

usually if you unplug your router (wifi) and apple tv, and plug the two back in , you should be fine. usually 3905 is a wifi problem.
I had apple TV 3 I returned it after 4 days of trying to get it to work. I tried unplugging everything TV included and nothing worked. Turns out it was a faulty update from apple.

Martha Macnab Turn on wifi. You need wifi in order to AirPlay. Also turning on Bluetooth helps

Also, do you know of any device/app that will let me mirror att uverse. I get a error when I try to stream to apple tv. It also does the same thing when I connect to it wire to the tv. I did found this info The app blocks both wi-fi and wired access. I hoping there might be a work around for this problem.... Any help for this problem would be help full....

If you do everything in the video including updating and it still doesn't work,than you got to make an appointment at apple so they can check it out for free.
Apple TV is an absolute scam. I have seen so many people have the same problem where their Apple TV won't connect to wifi, tried everything to resolve it but it still won't connect. Since 2010 these problems have persisted yet there is still no common solution for this. I suggest Apple learn how to make things that last longer than 2 months before putting them on sale to the public. Or at least know how to fix the problem!
I've had apple tv for 2 years now and its still running. Ive done airplay from iPad 1, iPhone 3Gs to iPhone 5S and it works well. if something doesn't work you just need to return or exchange with apple and thats it. you can also get extended warranty for up to 3 years.

ipad 2 is fully compatible to airplay. if it still doesn't work after you try what I did on the video , you got to take it to apple store to get it fixed
