- In this video, I show you how to make a delicious south Indian style mango chutney recipe. What's great about this chutney is that it hits all of the flavour profiles - sweet, sour, bitter, salty, and spicy! It works great as a dipping sauce, flavourful vegan spread for rice cakes and wraps, or more traditionally as a side in a south Indian meal!

Amazing. Can't wait to try this asap, thank you! Your videos are all so well done too. Very glad I found your channel!!
Yay! Let me know how it goes! And thank you so much for your kind words! 💖
It is really yummy ....you can add a few fried cashews in the tadka.....A few dates cooked with the mangoes go really well❤
Oh yyyyyeah! I'm west indian (trini) but will definitely make it this way to put on some doubles and some fish.
Let me know how it goes!!!
@@sumisubbu It's fantastic! Nice creamy mango texture, a little tangy, a little hot. I didn't have chilies, so I incorporated my homemade trini hot sauce. I also added a dash of apple cider vinegar and cut the mangoes into smaller pieces, just to make it go farther. Fantastic recipe, liked and subscribed!
@@Metoobie Yay! I'm so glad! Thank you so much for letting me know and the support!
looks yummy - is there anything we could substitute if we don't have any mustard seeds or Indian chiles in the pantry? also I found some amazing pea and potato frozen samosas in Safeway by a brand named deep Indian Kitchen, taste homemade and are very healthy and come with a minty dipping sauce that they called chutney. It was good!
Looks so delicious! Will definitely try to make it!! 💯
Thank you so much! Let me know how you liked it! 😄
Made this again for my trini mom, (same recipe) but using Canadian peaches... turned out great! Experiment!
Ah I love that!!! Did your mom enjoy it?
@@sumisubbu absolutely! :)
Yummmm!
Would this be good with wings??
Ok im making this right now with 10 mangoes. I got some ripe ones.
Im using honey/ brown sugar as i dont have jaggery.
Can i pressure can/ steam can this for long term storage?
Looks like a great recipe! I plan to try it next time I buy mangos. You have a nice voice for narration :)
Let me know how it turns out! And thank youuuu!!!
Great!
Thank you! 💖
Wow..love this..❤️add little salt and asafoetida it will taste heavenly..for the seasoning add one teaspoon of udad dal and curry leaves too..
Thank you!!! Yes, this is how my mom makes it but I didn't have access to these ingredients that day and I made a more simple and accessible version haha! Thank you for this! Will make an updated video soon!
@sumisubbu there is no updated version, is it? :(
I like it as it is 😋😋😍😍
Hi I am from Jamaica 🇯🇲❤. As our Mango season comes to an end Just the recipe I qas looking for. Can I use our round Scotchbonnet Pepper instead if so ...red, green or yellow and how much? as they are very hot
Thankyou 😁
I love your accent
Looks very tempting and I almost went to picks spoon of mango chutney.!!!
Haha thank you!!!!
Hola, ¿qué otro tipo de chile puedo utilizar?
어떻게 먹는지 궁금했는데 영상보고 알았어요. 식사 할때도 먹는군요!
Looks very easy to make! How many days can it last once it's made before it goes bad? Can it be stored in the fridge, or is it better to just cook to eat it at the moment?
Hi there! You can store it for upto 3 - 4 days in the fridge! 😁💖
Jaggery = palm sugar
Ty😂
Thanks!
Thank you for sharing
How long if good in fridge and
Can I freeze ??
Hi there! If you cook the chutney down to a thick syrupy consistency it will keep for up to a week in the fridge! If you like your chutney runny and don't want to cook it down too much it will keep for 2 - 3 days in the refrigerator 😁💖
@@sumisubbu thank you for reply
I am actually so excited to try this one!! Looks so delicious for summer
I'm so excited for you to try it! It truly is a chutney that screams summer! 💖
your voice is so relaxing
Thank you so much < 3
Can we add diluted tamarind to your recipe
Subscribed! I wanted to reach through the screen for that plate of samosas and mango chutney! They look delicious; please say that you will show how you make samosas soon?
Thank you so much! Yes! I'm trying to figure out a good gluten-free version to making samosas which is tricky haha but in the mean time, please check out my video on pakoras & bajjis! th-cam.com/video/sgfp1JfDbXk/w-d-xo.html
Could you blend this and it be more like restaurant style or would that release too much liquid?
Hi there! For a more restaurant style version you can just cook it down for longer till the mangoes break down and get all syrupy!
@@sumisubbu thats great thank you for the advice, appreciate it
Wow !!😋waiting to try it tomorrow!
Sumi, can you also tell that can we also make them for fasting or not ??
Hi Brajdevi! Thank you so much! Since it has mustard seeds (which is an important ingredient for this dish), I don't think it will work for fasting! But please try it on a non-fasting day and let me know how it turns out!💕
Thank you Sumi!😊
Thank you Sumi!😊
How long does the chutney last in a refrigerator?

Would it be a sacrilege to add fenugreek seeds? To me they taste super ‚indian‘, but thats an outsiders perspective obviously. I have some lying around though :D
It wouldn’t be sacrilege 😂 You can add an eighth of a tsp for a lovely Indian pickle-y flavour. I wouldn’t add more because it can get bitter. Hope this helps!
@@sumisubbu thanks alot! :)
Could you blend this into a purée?
Hi there! You can cook down the chutney for longer till it reaches a mushy consistency! Only because, blending it along with the spices will make it bitter. Hope this helps!
That’s exactly how my mom prepares this except that she adds a pinch of salt along with jaggery ❤️
Love that! < 3
P
Hi! your recipe looks amazing, but it's not on your website so I cant find the full recipe. Also I live in Spain so it will be challenging to find jaggery. What can I use as an alternative? thanks so much
Hi! Thank you so much! So sorry for the delay but the recipe has been updated on the site! You can substitute with brown sugar or coconut sugar to mimic the "caramel-y" flavor of jaggery!
thetadkaproject.com/blogs/recipes/south-indian-style-mango-chutney
@@sumisubbu muchas gracias por la respuesta, justo estaba pensando cómo sustituir el jaggery! Es como azucar caramelizada?
@@milagrosseoane3693 The flavour profiles are similar but jaggery is unrefined cane/date palm sugar! If you don't have access to it, you can use brown sugar or coconut sugar. Hope this helps! < 3
Hmm, I wonder if you could use frozen Mango...?
You can for sure! Just be sure to cook it down well and it should be good to go!
Tumeric gives me an upset gut any alternative please
What is jaggery?
