Today is DAY ONE! Super excited about my new healing journey and I hope you will come along for the ride.
Just to clarify something - I am DEFINITELY not shooting for perfection here. I'm trying to make some healthy changes and I think this could be the shift in mindset that I need. I don't think anyone would ever get a perfect score, at least I know I never will! That's fine with me, but it will be fun to try to beat my own score, whatever that may be. It's also just mainly a reminder of all the things I think would help me life a better life, because some of these things I forget to do. If I start to feel overwhelmed, I will scale back on the number of habits or make the changes smaller.
Ally and I decided that I will get my reward when I hit a score of 544 for December. I will probably increase it in January, but with the holidays and the fact that I am just starting (and want to make sure I am excited to keep going), I think that's a good starting goal. My reward for December? New boots!
Also...I forgot one of the most important habits of all - Meditation! I am going to combine journaling with the planning habit and add meditation to my list.

This unexpectedly really inspired me. I have just come out of a really difficult breakup and a few other big life changes, and at first I was excited about the new start but I have hit a depressive episode from it now. You inspire me so much Mary Ellen. You are dealing with more loss and grief than most of us can even imagine in a lifetime and you keep swimming and are honest about your struggle. Thank you.

    • @PlanningwithBumble

Thank you. I have to keep swimming even though most of the time I feel like I’m drowning. I hope that feeling will change, but the only thing that makes things better at all is planning and trying to improve

Mary Ellen, you don't even know how much I needed this video. I am trying to change habits and not doing very well. I was diagnosed with bipolar depression several years ago. I fight every day to be a better person then I was the day before. Something like this will help me track being better, do more and be accountable. Thank you, thank you for being you, being vulnerable by sharing your story. I know you help me every day.

      @PlanningwithBumble  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

I’m not. I gave up the majority of my perfectionist mindset within the last couple years. I don’t think it’s healthy, the way i was. I will never get a perfect score and I don’t care, the point is to beat my own score and remind myself of what’s important so that I can do the best I can to promote a healthier lifestyle. CONGRATULATIONS on your sobriety. That’s a massive achievement. Keep going!!!

This is a great idea, and I know you got this! An idea on rewarding yourself…Maybe you can grade on a 90-80-70-60% of your total points. Say you get at least an 80%, which would be a B or an A, you get a reward, and if you did extra great (an A) you get an extra bonus.

I am in the process of reading Atomic Habits . It’s brilliant. Very different angle than most self improvement books. The theory of how small consistent changes add up in the long run is amazing. It’s not rocket science but most of us don’t think of it that way. When we are ready to change, we want to go all in and take drastic steps.

I don't know how I missed this, I tried to watch all your videos as soon as they come out. Mary Ellen I am so happy for you and I am a living witness all the steps that you're taking are exactly what I have done and am doing as part of my healing and it really does work. Please, please, please don't give up. When my daughter was alienated from me 3 years ago and my divorce from a horribly abusive individual 7 years ago It was incredibly, incredibly, incredibly painful. I have taken baby steps in this journey. I felt like I had nothing left. I began watching TH-camrs such as yourself ,getting ideas and learning about boundaries, trauma, Recovering from narcissistic abuse and parental Alienation, clothing style, makeup. Heck, I'm just learning how to put on makeup and I'm nearly 60 years old🤣
I am so proud of you. I know that the last 4 to 5 years of your life some days have felt like walking through h***.. But you're still standing and you're standing for a reason.
Check out these other TH-cam channels that really helped me:
    1. 2nd act TV
    2. Fifties and fabulous
    3. Grow with Joe
    4. Mindfulness movement- Their sleep meditations are incredible.
    5. Abide- sleep meditations
    6. Grace For today
    7. Dappy T Keys- AMAZING INSTRUMENTAL to play while working, sleeping, showering, cooking, LIVING!!!!
So proud of you. If I were on social media I would definitely connect but social media( other than YT, LinkedIn in ) Aren't my thing.

I’m inspired. I lost over a hundred pounds a few years ago but started gaining during quarantine and I’ve been feeling like my health and eating habits are completely out of control. I’m making a change in December starting with a complete physical. This has inspired me to look at things differently. I’m not perfect and don’t need to be but I can do better little by little.

Mary Ellen: thank you so much for sharing this. I am so excited-perfect timing!
I was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. I am doing really, really well. I basically lost a year of my life as I had countless medical appointments with six different doctors and their teams, plus surgery and I recently finished radiation treatments. I got an infection from one of my biopsies so I battled that for six weeks then I had surgery (2 month healing) and radiation, so I did not get to spend any time outdoors or with my extended family for the past year as I had to isolate.
I am so excited about the upcoming year . Cancer free in ‘23 will be my mantra and I will get back to enjoying a normal lifestyle! I bought fitness and wellness planners to prep for the new year. So many things you show in this video are things I also enjoy/need to do or want to do in the new year so I’m excited to join you on your habit tracking journey. I love this idea-esp the rewards. I’m really excited about this!
You ARE our teacher as well as our friend. I always enjoy your lessons as well as you sharing your life experiences (good and bad) with us. Thank you for being you. I really appreciate you! ❤

I discovered Crayola Super Tips about five years ago, on my own. I started out lettering with them before I could afford the better pens like Tombow. They are a best kept secret. I think Crayola deserves a huge award for their quality products for kids. (And beyond) Crayola is an awesome company.

I love Atomic Habits. I am reading it too. I read another book and made some changes this year. I make my bed first thing in the AM, set a specific wake up time and I started listening to some podcasts. I’ve been able to stick to these. Now I’m ready to do a little more. Going to make a tracker thanks to you 😊

This is fantastic & inspiring!! Atomic Habits is one of the most helpful books I've read. I've also recently read 2 books by Dr. Edith Eger: The Choice & The Gift. They deal with grief & trauma & reframing your thoughts. I have found her implementing her advice to be the most healing. I continue to love & learn so much from your videos. Thank you so much. And most importantly - you've got this!!

I am not in that super dark place anymore, thank God, but there are things that I can do that will help me feel better, I know they will help me but for some reason I am not doing them! I think this is a great way and who knows, maybe I will start to feel some real joy in my life again. It is worth a try.

I watched your PWM using the self care stickers and I don't think that your list is too much. Your list is pretty much everyday items to do each day and I think this way puts you in check with yourself. Kuddos to you MaryEllen. I've also started doing a list of everyday things on my daily sheets so I see and know what I did and didn't do.

  • @gillianmcculloch6995

This is Brilliant, you can do this Mary Ellen. I'm doing something similar with habits. I've split them into morning, afternoon and evening chunks so I can see WHEN I feel inspired to do the work and more importantly when I DON'T! What works for me regarding scoring is having a total WEEKLY score of 70% or more (which for many University Courses here in the UK is a Distinction grade so I figure that's good enough for me!) Tracking weekly helps me to focus on the specific thing that is being skipped most frequently so I can have a word with myself on Sunday and get right back to it the next day. If you're scoring monthly then anything over 520 out of 744 would be AMAZING.

Atomic Habits is an excellent book! I’ve been using this at work! Keeps me focused. We start small 2-3 goals and build on each to reach our goals. It’s easier to track your progress. The author of the book says that when tracking becomes a chore, your habit will decrease. It’s a journey! Celebrate your successes and forgive yourself for any mistakes along the way!

This is a brave and ambitious goal of tracking 24 things! Make sure you are linking goals into trains. Like you are suggesting planner/journalling but only if you would always do those consecutively. I used the routinery app for a while to link my am routine/habits. That puts you in an automatic "after this, that" and i agree with the other lady saying to give yourself an incentive to perform better. So at 200 points just Coffee at Starbucks, or Ally cooking for you or something and make the reward better if you do better. I will definitely get back into habit building since i didnt continue some of them after well... life happened right? I'm giving myself grace and start again. It will be interesting to share the Journey. One thing happened to me too: starting with skincare and mascara really gives me a confidence boost! And for my spf i use a daycream with spf in winter from no7 called protect and perfect (i think wallgreens sells that in usa) in summer i use Vision spf50.

  • @denisetschida1777
    @denisetschida1777 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I am making two of these: one for me because hey, who doesn’t need a push (social media posts, shoot every day, post to Flickr every day, learn another feature in Photoshop/FinalCut, new recipe each week) And one for my kennel (cleaning different areas, dust off / wipe down, check air filters, food supply levels, blanket swap for new each week, grooming and conditioning), vet schedules for teeth cleaning), OR WORSE I realize the submission deadline for my AKC Gazette article is on me and I haven’t put one word on paper yet!! - you’ve inspired me to not look up and realize half a month has gone by and then I panic and play catch up. I realize putting these ideas in a planner can work but if the idea is in front of me every day, I will be ahead of things rather than playing catch up - or missing out entirely - as you say change can be small but good habits make for a better prepared, less stressed person. HUGE THANK YOU.

I completely understand. I had 26 losses in a 6 year spans both parents, my best friend grandparents and so many more. I started to push people away because I was terrified to love. I went into the darkest time of my life and fell into depression. It took my children making a comment that triggered me to fight my way back to life and love and happiness. I gave my grief to God because it was more than I could bear alone.
I hope and pray you are finding your way through this dark time. He will give you peace if you ask. ❤🙏

This is a lot of goals! I think 50% deserves a reward. Then increase it each month by 10% or something. I may try this concept...started writing down goals for 2023 while watching you. Definitely an inspiration! I would love to see a habit tracker that in one page can incorporate daily, weekly, monthly trackers. Like drink 40 oz of water per day, but also wipe down kitchen countertops once per week, and go to the gym 2x per month. Thanks Mary Ellen!

I've been working on myself a lot lately and another book I recently read and highly recommend is The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins. It has helped me to recognize and intercept my negative thoughts/talk and has already helped me push through some of my own limits. Just like you said, small daily improvements (1% every day) has already made a positive difference in such a short time.

Came to watch this from the plan with me where you explain that perfection is not your goal. I use exactly this spread for habit tracking. I track SO MANY, but a lot I already do (like give dogs meds, etc.), so not a huge burden, just a record that it's done. I also tend to fill it out once/day, rather than filling each out as I do it. More of a keeping on track/reminder than pressure for perfection.

I’ve been loving Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen or their Glow one if you want something extra. Just make sure you use a heaping 1/4 tsp amount for face and neck. ❤

Omgosh..this is awesome & so encouraging. I would say I'm probably 99% the same habits that I need to get into that you have written down. I really enjoy my 1 or 2 glasses of wine a night..but I will try. And getting outside in the winter in Colorado is hard for me..coming from San Diego, CA. It is 14° & snowing today..🙄 I already sound like I'm making stupid excuses. But like I said, your video is very inspiring so.. no more excuses for anything..right! I know you can do it & watching your progress..is a win win. Then there is not beingvon the phone until 1 or so AM every night..again. set a time frame. Thank you Mary Ellen.

I fully expect to never get a perfect score, nor am I striving for perfection, but just a shift in mindset and a trend toward a more healthy and positive lifestyle! Honestly even sitting by a window in the sun during the winter would probably help! They also have those lights that are supposed to simulate sunlight! Anyway I am glad I inspired you!

Thank you for sharing your personal struggles & challenges. Being so open & honest about your journey is a testament to your strength & resilience. I've been tracking a few things, adding a new item to track every few weeks. Taking it slowly has helped me keep up with my tracking, so I'm not overwhelmed with the process (it also allows me to use fun stickers!). Thank you so much for the great ideas! Take care & best of luck with your journey.

Thanks, Mary Ellen! I just started a tracker for "winter" because I too have fallen into a slump in some areas. That book has been on my list, and I appreciate you talking about the challenge of making changes. I had to make my list with basic tasks included as a reminder, and so that a flow would be created and I would be able to check items off. So it's okay if the list SEEMS long, LOL. Onward and upward!!

Mel Robbins has a good idea for getting moving or changing your mind. 5 Seconds. Count 5-4-3-2-1 and then get up, 5-4-3-2-1, drink the water. I use it when the alarm goes off. It is helping me to stop being a “snoozer”. Also, we are very similar, the Social habit is something I need to incorporate, I isolate often.

This is such a good exercise! I have an app that I put daily habits in and that’s how I track mine. It has really helped me build a routine that encourages me to take care of myself, and in turn, take care of my to-dos. If you find yourself unable to think of something concrete for “personal development”, (since it’s more vague than say getting out of bed at 7:15), it would be interesting to pick one specific personal development task to focus on for a week and see how that feels. Breaking down tasks and habits for me helps me feel more in control!

This is a great idea. My Fitbit helps with reminders to move, sleep, drink water etc. I’m sure the Apple Watch will do the same. Think I will try a simplified version of this in my monthly spread with a habit list in the sidebar and color coded checks in each day. I’ve been searching for a better use of these pages. Thanks for the inspiration and good luck! You’ve got this! ❤

I am going to start using my habit trackers again after the holidays. I need to get back to basics. I am in that stay at home mom, pj day everyday, and I need to get it together. I have several large projects (we are cleaning out our basement to finish it) that I need to just work on a few minutes every day. Otherwise, I get overwhelmed.

I blogger I follow (Ordinary Karie) suggests to “practice” habits you want to begin in the new year in the month of December to set yourself up for success with NO PRESSURE. And it’s FABULOUS! Even just jotting down habits you want to begin in January and putting it somewhere you see it daily is a great way to program our minds. If you read a habit that you can’t implement at that moment, that’s OK, say a positive affirmation out loud to yourself about it. You’ll be shocked how many times you’ll think, “I can totally do this one today” and take action. Even just one success a day is.....SUCCESS. Don’t underestimate the power of tiny steps done repeatedly. 😊
