- In May of 2000, Dr. John Gottman was in New York to meet with publishers about his upcoming book "The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work," which would go on to become a New York Times best-seller. Not convinced that the book would ever sell, the head of marketing asked Dr. Gottman, "Tell me one thing I can do in 30 seconds to improve my marriage!" This is what he said in response.

Such an uplifting story. I think it also works in other relationships. Knowing what your child, friend, or workmate dreams of in life gives you access to something that’s so personal that it can immediately form a special connection.

that its a wrong thinga nd that they are going backwards.

This story sounds a little made up. Dr. Gottman once cited a scene in the movie Don Juan Demarco where Marlon Brando's character asks the exact same question to his wife to which she gives the exact same answer, but now he's citing this very same exchange happening between a marketing director and his wife.
Gray Revil I thought the same thing, that the story sounds unlikely. Haven't seen the film.

It really seems most of Gottman advice revolves around husbands changing but rarely mentions the wife changing. I really want to buy into the principles but is “happy wife, happy life” a real thing. What happened to happy husband? LOL
Don't worry. Women are conditioned since birth to please and make men happy. If that's not happening to you, she's probably sad about the relationship.
If you listen to all of the advice it's meant for both couples. I use it in my current relationship and it helps a lot. It's meant for people of all genders. It's about treating one another with respect
I believe it's mainly about the concept of"being influential but also get influenced by your partner" women are wired to "adapt"but men sometimes don't get this part so they need to be advised :)

Many girls are conditioned by mothers to contempt and fear fathers. It take lot of work to prove otherwise to wife. And it take removing her female "counselors". I think it's more important 😄
I thought the last sentence was going to be "and he got behind his wife's dreams", but he just "got behind advertising the book".
What does that even mean "honor your wife's dreams"?
....and what does you're wife have to do? never take any responsibility?
