number of matches has nothing to do with the mmr. also party mmr is fake mmr. most of the guys at high mmr playing with friends all time against random ppl that cant work together says everything. the system is trash, icefrog is stupid.

If you consider a dota game to take 45 minutes, which including queue time and draft phase I think that's a fair estimate, he's logged 521,145 minutes of Sniper, or 8,688 hours, or 362 days. That's almost an entire year of worth of time just playing Sniper.... holy fuck.
I feel like this is the new meta, at least in lower brackets. You just have a pos 1 and a pos 2 while everyone else is just kind of pos 3.5. No need for a hard support.
Herald is so weird right now. It's a melting pot of people with years of experience or brand new; zero last hits or smurf level farmers; low game sense or master tacticians; mute-all resilience or baby ragequit at first sign of trouble... I watch someone play amazingly for 10 minutes and think "Why the hell are you Herald, stop smurfing my game!" and then watch them throw 2 minutes later because their support placed a ward in a bad spot. "Ohh, that's why you're Herald, Ok!" I'm there because I'm bad, but also because I take year+ breaks and recalibrate too early on return, re-learning to play while losing MMR, every single time. I'm not really having fun to be honest, but I'm passing time until the next MMO launch. I sometimes wish I could buckle down and make myself play to improve, but knowing it's a life-time commitment (or, pausing for 6 months will undo my hard work, say) is an easy excuse.

That's why I also skip months and comeback and repeat. I was 4k mmr when 5k havent been reached yet. Now I'm struggling to climb up to 3k, I'm always in 2500-2800 bracket. Now I think is the time I quit DOTA for good and just be a viewer and live my past glory in my mind.

We have gotten older and the playerbase on average has not aged with us at the same rate. Though I doubt this is the reason I can't be satisfied with the answer that the cause is just lack of practice or being on the cutting edge. In my mind either there's something fundamentally more important than other things in dota that most are missing or there is a core internalization that happens at a certain coincidence of practice and greater levels of understanding that allows for mmr gain past 2k or so.

To be fair, the more games you have the more impressive a single percent becomes. It would be crazy hard to maintain a humble 54% win rate over the course of 12,000 games. a 54% win rate over 12,000 games would mean that you have won nearly 1,000 more games than you lost.

I think it could be even longer because low MMR cannot finish the game quick, which would skew the minimum game time for average calculation.
