We have a rooster girl named Moof. Very big Brahma/Sapphire gem. She was a much larger chick to her sisters at hatch. Always cuddly and friendly. She laid her first egg at the same time as her sisters around 6 months. It was very small and round. Then no more. Soon after she started crowing that funny crow, doing the seduction one footed dance with wing down to the other girls. Always on watch, looking for snacks, eating last. But never fighting. We also had 10 other roosters of different ages and never a problem there, so not having males wasn’t the inspiration for the hormonal shift. I would say she’s a great intermediary as the roosters respected her and the hens like her too. She did grow extra long waddles and her comb thickened up tall over the last two yrs. Lovely bird, always up for a hug. Like a rooster but without the negatives. And never tries to mate with the hens. It’s been two years since her transformation and we’ve been noticing the younger Roos trying to mate with her, chasing her around. Then lo and behold she began laying again. Not every day, and some don’t have yolks. But there you go she’s an anomaly. Bc she also still crows and acts more like a rooster and still loves to be cuddled and carried around. Moof! Really a wonderful incredible chicken 🖤🩵🤍 #roostergirl
I had 2 older hens start crowing, Holly and TBird - I thought it was because they were lonely but found out about the ovary change. And I think chickens are actually little dinosaurs...

Apparently, it is a diseased ovary, or one that has grown a cyst and becomes dysfunctional.
I had a hen that started crowing after a couple of years.
My trans chicken is named Princess 🙄.
He/She is beautiful and super sweet
