Glad you liked the review. Sorry I don't play acoustic guitar or sing. The Bose S1 Pro has a good reputation for vocals and acoustic guitar sound. The Mackie is the next step up from the Bose as far as volume.

JBL just lowered the Compact another $100 to $529. They might be blowing them out for a new model? This happened with my Eon One Pro that I bought for $1,200. Before they came out with the new MK2 they blew it out for $600! On the other hand EV hasn't budged from their introductory price of $750 so I don't think its just because of less demand in this Portable Battery PA segment.
There is a problem with the JBL Compact, the power button hits a onboard, Momentary Right Angle Tactile Tact Push Button Switch 6 x 6mm x 5mm, which easily gets bent/misaligned . It cost less than 5 cents when bought in bulk. Since I like the sound and ease of use of the 12 hour battery ,I choose to keep it and replace the switch which costs $10. So far I think its worth the minor defect.I hope JBL fixes this in the future.
Thank you so much for this video! I’m having a very difficult time deciding between jbl eon compact or Bose s1 pro. I really like the clean sound straight out of the Bose. However, being able to eq the jbl more makes me wonder if I can get the jbl to sound close to the Bose? If so it’s a no brainer. I sing, play acoustic and loop. The versatility of the jbl is fantastic. BUT if the sound on the Bose is much better then I might go Bose. What’s your thoughs?
Glad the video helped. I think you are spot on. For the average person the Bose sounds great with no adjustments needed. The Compact with its excellent EQ can sound very similar to the Bose. JBL is more mids/low heavy. Even with EQ Bose has a cleaner presentation. Not sure if battery is needed but JBL came out with the new EON710. Better in every way than either but a little heavier at 26lbs and no battery:(

I agree with you, Mackie is all high end, mids lacking. Mackie has a 3 band EQ that is useless. JBL was EQed as best as I could to get clarity to equal the Bose but still muddy. 10" woofer has better low end but takes away clarity from high end. If you don't need max volume the Bose S1 Pro has the most Hifi sounding presentation out of the box!
Depends on your application: Mackie- loudest, JBL- best bass, Bose- best mids, best for playing backing tracks, more Hifi like. Let me know what your application is and I can help you decide.
@@davidmayes3534 #1 question, do you need internal battery? If yes, the JBL Eon MK2 is the best battery solution on the market. If no, a QSC CP8 over a Bose Sub1 or EV ELX12 sub is my favorite portable rig.
Heyy! Thanks a ton for this video! Really helpful. But among these 3, using AUX input, which do you think has the best low end? I want to use it for DJing (mainly disco/house/techno) outdoors for lets say ~20-30 people. The only real deal breaker is that it needs to be battery powered cos not always you find a power source outdoors.
If you want bass in a battery speaker, JBL Eon MK2 has bass approaching a stand alone 10" subwoofer. None of these three will make you happy with that type of music. If anything the new Bose S1 Plus will have more bass than any of these. JBL Partybox 310 has great bass if you don't mind the size/weight. Also EV Everse 12 is a possibility. Just testing it now.
Yes, Mackie in my opinion of these three would be the best for the beginning DJ because it is the loudest and has excellent clarity, and the best price. You really NEED even a small subwoofer to make it sound its best. Yes, it has Aux input.
No I have not and would like to. Have you? Specs are very similar to Mackie - sharing technology?? Both 200 watts, both 17 lbs except Yorkville is $720! Doubt it is worth the extra $300!
bose s1 pro still king. there is a reason many 4-5 stars review on google and amazon for over 3k reviews. other competitors like JBL or Mackie on same segment are no match. if you are singer, karaoke. S1 pro is a way.
I am buying a PA system for the first time for my violin when I play gigs. Which one do you think will have the best quality sound / good volume? I am between the S1 Pro and the Eon One Compact. I like your videos!
Also, could you do a sound comparison video where an instrument is connected, please? I would love to hear how they sound with live instruments, besides the bluetooth streaming music.
Glad you like the videos. For violin I would go with the S1Pro. It has a cleaner high end and a smoother Hifi sounding midrange. Both have the same max volume. Bose smaller form factor/lighter weight. Bose has a better dispersion of 120 degrees, JBL throws 100 degrees. Both speakers should be off the ground on a speaker stand. JBL has a darker sound with more emphasis on bass which wouldn't apply for your application. JBL has the better App with a an 8 band EQ that can help you tailor your sound for different instruments/rooms. My vote for violin, Bose S1Pro. You will love it!
The Mackie Thump gets 101dB max, the Bose S1 gets 98.6dB, PB310 gets 104.4dB, louder and much better bass! The small PA speakers of course have the portability and weight advantage and the JBL and the Bose have Reverb. PB 310 has no EQ and doesn't have a user replaceable battery. Can't argue the quality/value of the Mackie. It falls down compared to these others because it doesn't have reverb or a functioning line out while using Bluetooth, which are deal breakers for live musicians.
Hello ! I'll ask you in this video too! Will you be able to sing and play the guitar under the backing track with a Mackie speaker or not? Will it work with Mackie Trump Go or not ?
Mackie is the loudest at 101.5dB and stays super clear at max volume , Bose S1Pro 98dB, JBL Compact 96db Bass is best on the JBL Compact, Bose has the smoothest mids ,Mackie has the least bass or about the same as the Bose.

Man I tried to bring the JBL EON Compact to band practice and we couldn't even hear it against the other monitors there not to mention it didn't sound half as good as an old amp I had to use instead. Oddly enough I returned a mackie thump go to buy it for the extra inputs and software. I'm going back to get the Mackie cause my guitar came through crisp and clear on that thing with no effects. JBL was applying a lot of bass to my sound and just was not loud.
You didn't set it up right then. Sounds like you didn't eq it! Sounds miles better than in this video when it's used as intended. Many more options than both the makie and the bose to get the sound you want. Reverbs, chorus, delay, 4 channels and 6 band eq per channel, 8 band on the outs. Not much comes near that at the moment for the price. All good speaker but much more flexibility with the JBL. The makie would make a good second speaker for it though!
Bose Specs rate the high end of the S1Pro at 18.5Hz . This is a weakness that is very evident at low to medium volume. The Mackie is rated at 20Hz which explains the cleaner high end.
Yes, I tried that. Both have excellent high end. The EV adds a lot of missing bass. Like adding a mini subwoofer! Anytime you add a second speaker it gets louder and has that stereo left right imaging.
Being that the Thump Go speaker doesn't have reverb, could I use it with a passive mixer that has effects. Would that work if I just plugged it into the Thump Go, or would that need to be an active mixer? Thanks in advance for replies.
HEADS UP! Just found out the XLR thru out will not work with Bluetooth. Plugging in hard wired works fine. This is a big downside for me since I like to run an aux speaker or sub from the thru out with Bluetooth so I don't need to bring a mixer or being tethered to a cable. If I was using this as my main speaker this would be a deal breaker but I am using this speaker as an aux speaker.
I am utilizing a Mackie Go with a vocal processor for singing. Does this have an Aux Input for a laptop or Ipod to go through? Can this Mackie Go be daisy chained to a second Mackie Go? I was a bit unclear on what is meant by XLR thru not being compatible for a sub being that I don't know how those hook up but for tandem with a 2nd Mackie Go; would this work with an Aux in ? Thank you
Curious if you tried other tracks than EDM. Maybe vocal tracks? The Mackie clearly has the edge in base heavy music due to its much larger woofer. I wonder if you’d get the same result blasting Adele’s or Taylor swift, side by side with the other two. I use my S1 at wedding ceremonies so mostly for vocals. Crazy how the JBL sounds so muffled on your video compared to the other two. Mackie and Bose are clearly ahead. Bose is overpriced but we all knew that. If you don’t look at the price, the Bose is still the winner in my mind due to its size/weight and signature hifi sound, and also don’t forget horizontal coverage. The Bose will cover a considerably wider area than either the JBL or the Mackie. It’s not that impressive that the mackie is nearly 3db louder than the Bose when you consider that it’s also nearly twice the size, has a 8 woofer, and only projects the sound in a much narrower area, so it’s not a really fair comparison. Nevertheless, a very impressive performance from the cheap mackie. You could nearly buy two mackie for the price of one S1 and that is crazy. Hopefully a Bose S1 pro mkII is on the way soon to justify the difference in price. But like I said, just because of its size, weight and horizontal distribution, the Bose is still the clear winner to me for pro applications. To take at the beach or at a bbq with friends the Mackie makes more sense. GREAT video again. I’m really enjoying your channel. no nonsense and no BS or bias. Keep it up! I was excited to watch your video lol
Glad you enjoy the videos. To answer your question, yes I have tried the Mackie with vocals and again it is crystal clear at volume! Funny I just tried the new Adele CD tonight, sounded excellent. Heads up for my next video: I ran the Mackie from the line out of the S1Pro. At 70dB or less the S1 Pro is very mid heavy and a little muddy. At these volumes the lack of a 20Hz high end of the Bose showed. Using the App from the Mackie- which Bose lacks I was able to slowly raise the gain adding those crystal clear highs missing from the Bose while the Bose retained those smooth mids and actually better lows at these low volumes. Incredible combination! Since Bose on the Aux channel lacks any EQ and again doesn't have an App with EQ I used the Mackie as a sort of battery operated EQ adding those missing highs. With the Mackie's mute function on all channels I was able to A/B adding and subtracting the Mackie at the press of an icon. The difference was huge! This is as close to studio monitors/Hifi I have gotten in a portable battery operated PA. Unfortunately both speakers are playing in mono vs a pair of stereo S1Pros that I also have. Most people don't like mixing brands but I do whatever I need to do to get the best sound.

Personally I dont like when the speaker companies rate and publicise watts (because its a marketing gimic) giving out a peak on something like that - as it might only peak at that for a split second I wanna know the SPL on it the RMS im terms of wattage and wanna hear it for myself as 200 watts of crap is still crap which 'sounds better' out of these speakers in your opinion with music guitar and vocals is what I wanna know ...I think there is actually a better speaker out than all of those and that is this relitively unknown brand that has a few useful extra features on it th-cam.com/video/CkS2Lz2EnWs/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=JoyoPedals
Glad you liked the review. Sorry I don't play acoustic guitar or sing. The Bose S1 Pro has a good reputation for vocals and acoustic guitar sound. The Mackie is just as clear but missing some of the mids Bose is known for. The weakness many people find with the Bose S1Pro is lack of power. The Mackie is the next step up from the Bose as far as volume.

@@tommywilliamson1556 I usually just play in 1 hour intervals at volume. Not sure about the Mackie since it is so new but the S1Pro and Compact have a reputation for excellent battery life.

@@WWeiss-nv5vz you will love the partybox 110. They sound good and are fun speakers! I can't wait to see the comparison. I think I'm going to do that with a partybox 100. The Bose S1pros and the Bose subs are my smaller setup. I absolutely love the sound that comes from that. The PRX1S are going to be the setup when I need a little more headway. Like the tailgate party I did. I pushed the S1pros almost all the way so next time I will use the PRX1S so I don't have to run them as hard. I think I am going to get a couple more subs to go with the mackies . So I will have 3 defferant rigs for defferant things and sometimes I will use 2 defferant ones for weddings. Plus with high school events I will probably add a sub or two to the PRX1S. The kids love the bass 🔊. LOL
Great video thank you. However, it's worth noting that 3db difference is not like adding a second speaker. That would be 6db.
Thanks for the heads up. I believe I read at +3dB our ear is fooled into thinking it is double the volume but at +6 it is actually twice as loud.
The Mackie really needed the reverb...
Hello, can you please tell me if you can activate the reverb effect on Mackie? Thanks
The Mackie be the loudest would you say overall ? Think you said that in the video but just wanted to double check your opinion .
Yes, the Mackie is noticeably louder!
Estuve buscando una comparación entre el Bose S1 pro y el HK move 8 y no encontré..alguien sabe cuál tiene mejor sonido?
I've never heard the Move8.
I heard about that problem on the JBL Facebook Forum! I have never had that problem with mine.
Mine is bended by someone trying to shut it off but push too hard. I place a hard plastic to straighten, it works fine😂

Better in every way than either but a little heavier at 26lbs and no battery:(
@@WWeiss-nv5vz I’m looking for battery. If the Bose still sounds a little better even after eq 🤔 I may just go Bose then. The versatility of jbl is killing me though!!! 😩 Thanks for the reply!!! Subbed!

Were the EQ settings the same for all speakers? I thought the mackie had a lot of harsh mids and the JBL muddy but the BOSE sounded fantastic. Thick and clear! Thanks for posting.
Which is the best sounding one?
Depends on your application: Mackie- loudest, JBL- best bass, Bose- best mids, best for playing backing tracks, more Hifi like. Let me know what your application is and I can help you decide.
Hey, not OP but similar question. I’m looking for a portable PA to busk with. I’m a drummer and I’d be using the PA to play backing tracks
Is Mackie good for beginner DJ? And does it have aux 3.5?
Yes, Mackie in my opinion of these three would be the best for the beginning DJ because it is the loudest and has excellent clarity, and the best price. You really NEED even a small subwoofer to make it sound its best. Yes, it has Aux input.
Have you tried the Yorkville EXM Mobile 8?
No I have not and would like to. Have you? Specs are very similar to Mackie - sharing technology?? Both 200 watts, both 17 lbs except Yorkville is $720! Doubt it is worth the extra $300!
@@WWeiss-nv5vz I am the other way around, I've tried the Yorkville but not the Mackie. The Yorkville is head and shoulders above the Bose though.
What do the “shape” and “notch” buttons do?

I don’t really care about the 8 inch speaker. I wonder how that battery powered sub sounds that would be an awesome vid
bose s1 pro still king. there is a reason many 4-5 stars review on google and amazon for over 3k reviews. other competitors like JBL or Mackie on same segment are no match. if you are singer, karaoke. S1 pro is a way.
Agree!
I don't see any way to do a Firmware update on the Mackie. If you can't , this is not good.
If anyone knows how please post.
Do you think these speakers are equivalent in terms of loudness compare to JBL partybox 310?
The Mackie Thump gets 101dB max, the Bose S1 gets 98.6dB, PB310 gets 104.4dB, louder and much better bass! The small PA speakers of course have the portability and weight advantage and the JBL and the Bose have Reverb. PB 310 has no EQ and doesn't have a user replaceable battery. The small PA speakers are geared for better vocals and acoustic guitar sound quality. www.rtings.com/speaker/tools/compare/bose-s1-pro-system-vs-jbl-partybox-310/6982/19644?usage=10159&threshold=0.10

Mackie for me. The sound is great for the price and tge battery is great.
Can't argue the quality/value of the Mackie. It falls down compared to these others because it doesn't have reverb or a functioning line out while using Bluetooth, which are deal breakers for live musicians.
