I just bought a large used flail mower, its a beast. You can buy parts at Flail-Master in Murfreesboro, TN. They are local for me, but ship all over. Great prices, nice people. Its a small outfit, and I love supporting this type of business. I'm not affiliated in any way, just a customer.
Remember if the manufacturer rates it at 45 horsepower that's PTO horsepower not engine horsepower. So you would have to have around a 55 horse power tractor
You can still run it no problem on your tractor. The PTO specs for your tractor are low for safety sake, you’re probably have 5-8hp more. You do need to lift the stand or it will bend during mowing.
@@RockhillfarmYT that's awesome...after I posted I saw a video of you using it. I wasn't sure if you exchanged it or decided to just try the one you had. So is the new one a Terminator too?
How many wheel weights do you have on that tractor? Looks like 3 on each side? I've considered a flail mower but they are so much more money I'll stick with my rotary cutter no more than it gets used. Nice piece of equipment and nice review. I'm sure someone will give it a good home.
Yes, three on each side which is the limit Deere lists I want all the ballast I can get so the tires are also fluid filled Definitely not cheap for a flail mower. If I was buying my tractor over again I would’ve use the money I spent on the mid mount mower and brush hog to get the flail mower
It would barely lift it. It came up about an inch off the ground and then to raise it any higher I had to pull with the tilt cylinder. I am undecided on what I want to do and I’m going to talk to the manufacture about it Thanks for the feedback
@@RockhillfarmYT I tried a titan side shift and articulating flail mower. It was too much for my 2025r. Sold it to someone with a 2032r. It would work well for your 2038. I think Mascio has one like that.
They do, and that’s what I originally wanted. Then he told me about this heavy duty unit and I thought that would be perfect. I should’ve done my due diligence on the requirements of this and opted for the type you were talking about
Curious how wide that fail mower is? Doesn't look like it is 6' wide but hard to tell on video. I have a 49 hp Kioti with 37.5 hp at the PTO and it is just a shade under 6' wide. Seems like the min HP they are stating is too much for the width of that flail mower (I thought flail mowers were supposed to require less HP than rotaries of the same size....). By their specs, I wouldn't have enough tractor to run that but that shouldn't be right. Looked like you could pick it up enough for use, tilt it back so the roller is on the ground or just above the ground and try it. You may not be able to go as fast with it over heavier material as you could with more HP, but I would bet it will work on your tractor, just a little slower travel speed..... Anyways, have a good one!!
Cut width is 68 inches. Maschio makes a flail mower that is almost the same width that they rate for a 25 hp tractor. This one is just over built for cutting heavier material. My rep said the 45 hp is more machine horsepower not PTO horsepower and it’s a general guideline. He actually recommended I go ahead and hook it up and try running it but I decided not to because of the weight of the unit. I actually could not lift it at all with the three-point. The way I got it up in the air was by extending the hydraulic top link all the way out so that it tilted back and then I raised my three point up with the mower still sitting on the ground and then I retracted the top link And lifted the mower. If you notice I didn’t actually lift it in the video it’s because I couldn’t If I had a John Deere 3038 instead of a 2038 I would’ve mowed with it yesterday. Those tractors have the same horsepower but the 3038 has an extra 800 pounds of lift capacity on the three-point
@@RockhillfarmYT Gotcha. So the three point couldn't lift it, but it looks like it was able to hold it once you did get it up (wasn't long enough to see if it dropped over time of course). So it was everything, and maybe more, that the tractor wants on the back...... Can see that would likely be pretty rough on the tractor. You definitely wouldn't want to try side-shifting that then! Time for the HydrosPlus 2R3E Performance Kit and turn the pressure up a little bit.......
That’s right, I remember you telling me that you were semi-local. I’m exchanging emails with the company now about if we are going to trade it out or if they want me to demonstrate it on a bigger tractor Flail mower has been something I’ve wanted for a long time
I don’t mean any harm in my opinion but I am amazed at how many people not just on TH-cam but in the general public who buy these small 25 to 35 horsepower tractors and purchase already have or receive implements way to big for their tractors to safely operate. The tractor struggles to carry the implement by running the engine hot 🥵 or other damage to the tractor. I truly believe again this is my opinion if you have 10 plus acers of land or use their tractor to make money with should purchase a minimum of a 65 (PTO) horsepower tractor. Weather you are bush hogging cutting hay fail mower tiller or any implement that requires the PTO should purchase a larger or bit more tractor than you actually need. As your property needs grow you will have the tractor size and PTO horsepower needed to complete your projects.. Obviously my point is to have more tractor than not enough. I had the total opposite problem. I have more tractor than my Impliments will carry so I’m having to rent or purchase the Impliments large enough to complete my projects because I inherited my Impliments which were used on an 8N ford tractor and my tractors are a JOHN DEERE 2555 and a 4020. I am very interested in a new fail mower this size. or larger. Liked Subscribed & Shared
Yeah, this tractor in the video was my first tractor and I thought it was going to be big enough. Now I really need a bigger tractor for everything I do. When I made the deal with Maschio to demonstrate this flail mower I had no idea it was this big. Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts
TTWT just showed himself accidentally buying an extra tractor at auction. He didn't have pre-approval from the head of the finance committee. He claimed in the video that he doesn't know what he's going to do with it. Maybe it's for sale.
Maschio/Gaspardo has the worst customer “service - support”, sent my M160se unassembled and took 6 weeks to get me assembly instructions (charges me for it anyway) and when I called them on their lies they blocked me on social 🤦🏼♂️ pathetic!
I have the cheaper version of ur tractor-3038e. I was eager to see ur tractor operate a mower that it could just barely handle. But that is for sure to much for ur machine.
Thanks for your support Todd. I am sensitive to not having too many ads, but like you said, the ads are what allows me(and anybody else) to make videos. TH-cam placed three add breaks on this video and I removed one of them. Personally I use TH-cam premium because I don’t like watching ads. I don’t watch any TV and I only watch TH-cam videos so the $10 a month is worth it to me

Yes sir
It seems clear to us Brock. We love spending (your) money. Bigger tractor! 😂
Kioti NX 6010 cab would do it!!!
Very impressive mower.
That’s definitely a nice flail mower! I didn’t realize how big it was until you backed up to it with the tractor.
Maybe you can strike a little deal with John Deere ,and they can get you set up with a little bit bigger tractor.

An unfortunate miscommunication, but Daniel is already drooling, so maybe some good will come of it!
Hello from Daniel's channel. Saw u working some over there thought I would take a look on your channel .
I appreciate it
Bring it to KY. I've got a 5 series! - - It looks very large and solid!
As others have pointed out, I think it is time for a larger tractor. Maybe an Series 6 model of JD would work for you. 😁
That is an awesome implement. I’m sure you are disappointed. Hopefully they can swap you into a version that fits your application.
