You know its going to be a great day when you get up to make your coffee and you return to a notification that Tom had dropped video to watch..."No better way, to start the day..." Hm, sounds like a slogan for some old coffee ad...Learning so much from your videos...Looking forward to the day when I get to start this kind of serious pruning...Patience is the hardest part of this hobby...My first Mugo pine would agree with that anyway...TFS...Sequim, WA...
Thanks Nate! I love the slogan, I may just start using that myself! And I totally agree - coffee and bonsai is the perfect start to my mornings as well - always!! 🤣 Once they get established, they grow like weeds and you’ll get plenty of pruning in for sure. Also, no harm in a few sacrifice plants to help save the others from too much attention. I usually do that with some clearance items thinking that I have little invested if it doesn’t work out. Best of luck and thanks for watching.
Hey Tom, great little tree. You talked about cutting yourself with the scissors. Most people don't realize just how sharp the scissors are and how easy it is for your barber / hair stylist to cut themselves.
Thanks Lee and most definitely you can cut yourself very easily and sometimes not even realize it until later which is what often used to happen to me. I would be doing dishes or something and realize that I had 3-4 micro cuts on the finger tips where I nicked them while pruning. They really hurt and doing it repeatedly makes it more difficult to heal. At one point I started putting tape over the tip of my finger. Great comment and thanks for watching!!
Thanks Victor! I really like this one as well - it’s more of a traditional informal upright style which is what it wants to be. The very small leaves and branches keep it looking to scale I feel and the trunk keeps getting thicker each season. Thanks for watching! ❤️🌲
It's amazing how they tend to multiply isn't it?!?!? I am now up to 4 tall shelves of trees, but have not yet actually counted them all other than to say too many!
That’s a common area for the tweezers to end up! The are a brand called “Jungle Club” - you can find them on the internet, but I’ve also seen them in some garden shops as well. They are amazing tweezers - my favorite, good luck finding them.
I fertilize mine each time I water with a diluted amount of fertilizer in the water - probably 1.5 tablespoons per 2 gallon in my sprayer. I also use Osmcote when they are outside. I like the continuous feed since the soil has very little organic material to hold the food. Best of luck and thanks for watching and commenting! 🙏❤️🌲
I have this issue occasionally where the camera focuses on my scissors rather than the tree when pruning. I think it’s because I get the tree too close to the camera. I’ll try to avoid this morning the future. Thanks for watching and commenting!! 🙏❤️🌲

I'm from the region of the Americas called the Caribbean! Beautiful tree😁
A guy can dream - it's very cold and wet here now, a long slog until spring now!!
Perhaps I should have named this tree "Caribbean Dream"!???!?
That tree has a personality that separates it from the others, very unique and endearing imo definitely a wow plant

@CoffeeandBonsaiwithTom i thought that I'd given away enough cuttings, but I apparently added more new ones..🤪
Love those tweezers!!! Where did you find them? My first pair are at the bottom of a 6' compost pile, maybe...

How often to fertilize Portulacaria

Tom, did you change the autofocus setting on your camera? It used to stay focused on the tree.

I’m just here for the blue pot. 😂
